I have a good feeling that Aquaman will play superbly tomorrow! We will need some attacking flair with Kuyt and Torres out....Oh and Ngog of course.

Carlsberg are using their Chinese logo on the shirts for the last home game against Chelsea. I think it's this one:

Maybe a sign that a Chinese Squillionaire is going to buy the club?!

Given we've just dumped them for Standard Chartered I'd say they're promoting beer instead of the club although having said that it is some very good exposure over that way...TheKop2010-04-29 11:44:15

I figured El Nino would be reasonably happy to have Atleti through to the final, then I saw Kun's just gone to Chelsea.

I've loved Diego Forlan ever since his wonder strike against Senegal in '02.  And while this may be a bitter pill to swallow it could increase the chances of Rafa being kicked out on his arse, do you think?

we can only hope.

i mean sure injuries this and unlucky that...but our bench was absolutely horrible today

bringing on el zhar and degen. seriously WTF
the commentators reffered to el zhar as a young prospect... the dude is like 24, if he hasnt made it now, or hasnt even showed glimpses of making it, he is not going to

The Degen sub was particularly baffling, and so was Pacheo for Yossi.

Even though N'gog is a gigantic big ballsack burger, he surely was a better option than Degen, especially given that we needed another goal...

That bench was pretty awful though, but then again our starting line up ain't much better.

Rafa's comments after the game:

He said: "Someone said we needed four or five players. I would more or less agree with that. That is what we have to do. Perennial strugglers Perennial strugglers Liverpool is a massive club. There has been a change in the last two or three years. We have had to balance the books and manage in this way.

I do not know whether I will have any funds. We will find out in the summer. But the name is there and we have to do our best for it."

Grow up. Seriously.

Financially, we're f**ked. But come on. That performance was fine. We had Kuyt, Ngog and Torres all injured/coming back from injury. The bench was weak? Perhaps because there was injuries? Degen, yeah, sh*t. El Zhar, yeah, sh*t. Pacheco is alright, although Yossi should always be left on, cos I love Yossi! That line up was extremely attacking, and the best we could put out given the circumstances. Atleti sat deep cos they knew all they needed was an away goal. And that's what they did. Its a real shame we couldn't hold out, but have some f**king respect for our manager. Some of your comments are sickening. I'm not asking if you want him to stay or not, I'm saying show the man some respect.

Te quiero, Atleti. f**k Fulham up.

Okay. May as well do a quick season review now. With two games remaining- one potentially deciding where the title goes- most Libpool fans eagerly await the end of the season. And I'm no different. What an awful season its been. What is it- 18 losses so far? Starting off with a 2-1 defeat at White hart Lane, this pretty much set the tone for our season, particularly our away form. While we had most of our first team out there, nothing seemed t oclick, and the players just seemed to be lacking something. More whinging than passing. Yet we put in some good performances- a 4-0 crushing of Stoke at Anfield, thrilling 3-2 wins over West Ham and Bolton. It seemed that we could destory teams, and had only suffered early setbacks. I remember after the 1-3 defeat against Villa, Rafa saying: "Mistakes at crucial times". This pretty much summed up our season. Yeah, we were sh*t and had injuries and all those other excuses, but we just made silly mistakes.

Knocked out of the Champions League group stage due to defeats against Fiorentina, conceding last minute equalisers and winners again Lyon... Nothing was going our way. We found ourself in the Europa League simply because Debrecen were even worse than us- and that wasn't by much.

Our League form didn't pick up and it was difficult to get any momentum at all because just after we'd have a fantastic win (eg 2-0 against the Mancs) it would be shortly followed by a heartbreaking defeat (eg 3-1 against Fulham). We managed to keep in touch with the Top Four- just- throughout most of the season.

I'd talk about the Carling Cup, but there isn't much to say. Beat Leeds, which was nice. Drew Arsenal. /thread.

The FA Cup provided just as much heartache as our League season was giving to us. A 1-1 draw away at Reading, with a strong team, saw us take them back to Anfield... And lose! Leading 1-0 deep into injury time, we conceded a stupid (and soft) penalty and saw them equalise. We then went on to concede again in injury time and out we went.

Calls for Rafa's head grew louder and louder. Well, they seemed to. But many match going Reds still supported our manager and still do. I love to hear the Kop sing their defiant Rafa song. They acknowledge what he has done in the past, all the wonderful memories. They acknowledge that he has had to work under ridiculous constraints. They acknowledge that there probably isn't anyone better who we could get, anyway.

I want to try and focus somewhat on positives, because there has been so many negatives and I have enough to be sad about at the moment. So here goes. We did the double over Everton!

Pepe Reina. I wrote a little piece on this man earlier in the year, and just have so much respect for the man. Player of the season. No doubt. Consistant, positive around the dressing room and simply a top man. What a season. That he is contender for Golden Gloves is entirely down to him and his performances. I can think of several times that he has made saves that have kept us in the game or maintained a lead. That save against the Bluesh*te... Class. How Joe Hart got ahead of him in the PFA Team of the Year is so stupid its unreal and, dare I say it, a bit f**king racist. Reina has been sensational. He's committed to a six year deal and recently said: "Sometimes, its not about being at the best club, but about being at the right club". My respect for this guy is through the roof. Second favourite player, without a doubt. Long may he stay here.

Torres. Okay, he battled injuries through most of the season, but he still scored almost a goal a game, and was the difference in so many games. that last gasp goal against Villa... Ah. A truly class player, who we missed so much this season. When he played, he was the best striker in the world. If I ever meet Luisao, I'm gonna deck him. Another player who has constantly said that he wants to stay and fight. Long may that last and please, next season I'd love an ever-present Nando.

Mascherano. A battler. Started off shaky, but became one of the few players who played his heart out every game. Hasn't signed that contract yet, and may be looking over his shoulder at Barca, but please stay Javier. We need class players like you.

Some of those "supporters" have f**ked off. That has to count for something.

There isn't too much that has been positive about this season, although our Europa League efforts gave us some comfort. Belittled by some fans, I saw it as an opportunity to win a trophy. That we eventually didn't hurts me. But you can't lose the first leg and expect the home games to fire us through all the time. But we almost got there; almost made it to Hamburg. That 4-1 win against Benfica was awesome. An injured Torres proved the difference. And for anyone who underestimated Atleti, that was coming. Don't look at La Liga and judge them. They're in two cup finals now, and are a tidy side. Inconsistant. But a good side on their day. Fair credit to them, they deserved it. And I hope they win the Final.

But those 11 players who took the field today, they showed something that has been largely missing throughout the season: fight. The spirit shown by those players was enough for me. They did everything they could. You can hold your head high.

And now for the interesting game on Monday... But roll on next season.

Joe Hart has been in sublime form all season for Birmingham, helping lift them to a top half finish when they were tipped by many to go straight back down at the start of the season.

And racist?

Three for me, and two for them.

Reina has been unreal all season with a disrupted (and often sh*te) back four in front of him. All season. And is leading the Golden Glove charts.

Well clearly the players who have played against both think Hart has been better than Reina this season, and it's the players who vote this award. They would probably know better than most given the first hand experience they've had.

Three for me, and two for them.

I know more about football than those idiots...

But seriously. I'm with Rush. How he didn't get it is unreal. Say what you like. Pepe Reina.
