I don't think they'll sell either. The issue will be if one or both asks to leave. Not sure if Stevie and Rafa were quite on the same page last season so maybe he'll hang on. Hopefully they give it one more season, new manager, new owners?

Who do you support again?

Arsenal, but I don't like seeing a giant like Liverpool going down because some American d1ck heads can't get their sh*t together & a manager who makes long term purchases (Aqualini) when he needed to make short term cover.

PG would be massive. I'd back big Sam to do well too.

Wouldn't mind seeing Kenny come back in, but I'm not sure if it want to and he's been out of management so long he'd be a huge gamble as a manager.

Never been a fan of big Sam, suppose he'd be ok as a inbetween and we need a Wheeler Dealer. Although I don't think he would be able to talk Torres into staying (But, he has been known as a good talker, getting players like Okacha, Djorkaeff at Bolton)

Names been thrown around, in various places:

Martin O'Neil
Roy Hodgson
Jurgen Klinsmann
Marco Van Basten
Frank Rijkaard
Marcello Lippi

Not really sure the viability of each option.

despite some of his absolutly baffeling decisons that had me screaming my head off at 4am saying "WHAT THE F**K ARE YOU DOING?"

i will miss the guy...it is clear that he really did love the club and the supporters

I'm pretty sure we wont have the money for a big signing. I would lovl Martin O'Neill but would he want to leave Villa? It is a smaller club than ours, but they did finish higher in the league and have a strong young squad. Ideally we would get new owners and top shelf manager!

Not really sure what else to say, to be honest! Was going to post this morning but was too gutted and didn't want to read any negative comments. Glad there haven't been many, so thats a pleasant surprise.  Absolutely gutted though, as you know where I stand with Rafa. Thank you for everything. Will write a decent post when I have some time and am feeling up to facing that he's gone. And Fat Sam- no thanks

Daily Mirror is saying Harry Redknapp is in the frame.   Don't let that p**** of **** anywhere near Merseyside.

what, no Ricki?

Given the lack of money to spend, and owners wanting to sell up, I think it will be hard to get a top manager.

Hah! the mirror, England's most untruthful (?) paper...

On the Redknapps, I wouldn't mind getting Jamie on board as a coach. Was always class as a player, pity he struggled with injuries.

This I was not expecting:

Liverpool fan Eriksson wants 'dream' Anfield job

The race for the newly vacant Liverpool manager's job is hotting up as Sven-Goran Eriksson threw his hat into the ring and former winger John Barnes gave his backing to Kenny Dalglish - if the Anfield legend wants to reprise his old role.

Former England and Manchester City manager Eriksson admitted he is a life-long Liverpool fan and that he wants to manage the club. Eriksson said he was shocked to learn Benitez had left Anfield and said he hopes to be in contention to take over at Liverpool once his short stint in charge of the Ivory Coast comes to an end in South Africa.

Eriksson told the Sun: "I have been a Liverpool fan all of my life. I never mentioned it when I was in charge of England because I didn't think it was fair. I was shocked when I discovered Rafa Benitez had left. Would I want to be the manager of Liverpool? It is every manager's dream to manage Liverpool.''

Eriksson told how he used to watch Liverpool games on TV at home in Sweden and how he also visited Anfield when he was learning his way as a coach.

"My father was also a Liverpool supporter and every Saturday we would watch an English match on television. It was the highlight of the week. Liverpool matches were televised quite regularly and we would cheer them on. They have always been my team and nothing has changed.

"When I was starting out in coaching I was invited to Liverpool to see how they did things. Joe Fagan was the manager at the time. I remember him showing me around Anfield and taking me into their legendary boot room. It was such a privilege and an honour for me to be invited in there. I will never forget that moment. Liverpool will always hold a special place in my heart.

Former Anfield star Barnes believes the club must quickly put their faith in a new manager to ensure stability. He told BBC Radio Five Live: "Whoever comes in should come in now and say 'I'm the manager of Liverpool' - not short term, and you can't really say long term because as a manager you know two years and you're not going to be there. I think Kenny would do a fantastic job, but I've no idea (whether he wants to go back into management).''

With limited funding available, Barnes admits the incoming manager must get the best out of a squad whose lack of depth was exposed in last season's seventh-place finish in the Premier League.

"The new manager has got to be someone who can come in and work with the existing squad,'' he said. "I hope Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres stay because I think they've been our best players.''

I will always think of Benitez as a very good manager who lost his way at Liverpool. Board issues, wanting to play mind games with various managers all culminated with other smaller issues to his downfall.

Erikkson at 34/1 odds on TItan bet. Interesting that O'Neill, Hodgson, Dalglish and Hiddink favourites there.

Politics. If he wants the job he'll talk to anybody who will listen and is prepared to do the advertising for him. Not sure how I feel about Sven yet. I think I'd take Dalglish at present knowing there was a true Liverpool man leading. However, I doubt he will given he's been tasked with finding a replacement. Surely if he wanted it he would have put his hand up by now?

The job is a poisoned chalice atm. You would be have to be either mad or desperate to want to take over at Anfield under the current regime.

I was wondering on the weekend if any potential new owners would have a say in who the new Manager would be or is that left solely up to people like Broughton, Purslow, Dalgleish?

Tbf, that rag sometimes does just take quotes and spin them as their own. Not especially keen on Sven though.

Yeah. Read that the other day actually. Brilliant article. There was another good one by Dion Fanning too. Top read. Too little too late, I'm afraid, but nice to see the press are starting to pick up on it all. Hear about the fans who went to Anfield chanting Rafa's name and burning American flags?

Well, Rafa's just landed the Inter job. Wish him all the best. He's inherited a quality team and I look forward to seeing what he does.

Kuyt will be following Rafa anyway, if rumours are to be believed! All good, I remember Alonso was in one of them?

Looks rather German, which is a classy look.

All the best, Rafa! Hopefully he gets the backing he deserves.

As of the last prem game of the season. The Standard Chartered contract was worth about 10x more than Carlsberg. Easy decision in our current state. (There are however "performance incentives" to get the full $$)
