Read an interview with Paul Dalglish this morning (Kenny's son) Currently coaching Tampa Bay in the MLS. He said his Dad was very keen to become the new manager and alluded to the fact he may remove himself from the search process to put himself forward. I suspect an offer will be made to Hodgson and if he rejects it Kenny will step in.

I'm not convinced about Hodgson.......although he is probably sharper in the transfer market than Rafa, is he the World Class manager we require/desire?

Hopefully King Kenny says yes and influences the lads to stay around.

THE ECHO can exclusively reveal that Rafa Benitez today donated 96,000 to the Hillsborough Family Support Group as he gets set to leave Merseyside.

The former Liverpool FC boss, who was today confirmed as the new manager at Inter Milan, handed over the cheque to Margaret Aspinall, chairwoman of the HFSG, as the rest of the committee watched on this afternoon.

In a low key visit to the group's office, Benitez wished the group well and told them he hoped they would get the justice and the truth they are campaigning for.

Mrs Aspinall said: "It was just nice to know that he wanted to see us before he went."

Its amazing the changes seen in Rafa between when he's in the dugout during a game and when he's doing his day to day thing.

During a game he comes across as arrogant, stubborn and emotionless,
but when off the field it was clear he loved the club and fans in away that a lot of other foreign managers probably wouldn't be able to understand

Good to see Al Fayad come out and say he expects Hodgson to stay. Anything to get Kenny in as Manager.

I want Kenny.

I could kind of see it turning into a Keegan saga. All the supporters want the romance & nostalgia of Kenny but is it really going to be the best for the club?

Know exactly what you're saying. I'm prepared to risk that to bring a Liverpool man in. Some one who has worked at the club for the last year and knows the players. Has respect from the players and someone they will look up to.

Plus he is more likely to be able to convince Stevie and Torres to stay.......and he is cheap which is probably the most important thing for the owners

trouble may be if we do get kenny, liverpool sells and new owners think that he's not the "one" couple bad results and he's sacked, fan's spew at new owners for sacking a legend and bad blood between owners and fans starts again. Maybe i'm just a wee bit too into it!

I do agree with you thou thekop that kenny could well be one of the few people to keep gerrard and torres at the club. It's a bit of a predicament!

LOL at rafa wanting lucas and aqua! im sure most liverpool fan's would happily drive lucas to the san siro from south africa!

Yossi Benayoun seals Chelsea switch

Chelsea have agreed to sign Yossi Benayoun to replace Joe Cole - just as Soccernet revealed back in May.

According to reports on the Jewish Chronicle website on Monday, the Liverpool star and Israel captain has agreed a four-year contract with Chelsea after the two clubs agreed a fee of around 7 million.

When news first broke of Cole's departure and the anticipated move to replace him with Benayoun, it caused incredulity for fans of both clubs. The Stamford Bridge faithful couldn't believe that Cole would go, but only days ago Chelsea announced his contract would not be renewed, while Liverpool supporters were in shock that Benayoun would wish to defect to the London club.

Then, when Benayoun later confirmed that he was negotiating a move to Chelsea, the Liverpool fans were even more shocked that one of their players was openly talking about leaving. There are fears Benayoun's exit could have a domino effect with Anfield's star names attracting attention, and Fernando Torres still on Chelsea's wanted list.

Benayoun flies back to England later this week from holiday in Israel to undergo a medical and pick up his 80,000-a-week wages, the salary that Cole was enjoying at the Bridge until he became a free agent and demanded a 30,000 plus pay rise, which Roman Abramovich refused to sanction.

Benayoun will himself enjoy a healthy pay rise due to his move from Liverpool to Chelsea. Cole, though, is left still considering his future while on England duty, putting the decision onto the backburner to concentrate on the World Cup finals in South Africa.

Will miss Benayoun, was a huge player for Liverpool over the last two seasons. 6m ain't much, but he is 30 though.

Wonder if we could get Hamburg to part with Elia, Babel still has some value as a bargaining piece.

If Elia continues to play like this in WC, it would be a tough battle to get him, with other clubs being interested in him.

And here's what we've all been waiting for. The bid from Chelsea for Torres. This will be the true test from those morons high up. Both the Yanks and Broughton said they wouldn't sell. Let's wait and see...

Chelsea are waiting to hear back from Liverpool having lodged a 50 million bid for Fernando Torres, according to a transfer insider.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has given the green light to what would be the biggest domestic transfer in Premier League history, but will have to out bid Manchester City.

An insider close to the negotiations told Soccernet: "There have been two verbal offers for Torres, Chelsea are willing to pay 50 million, but Manchester City offered verbally 25 million more!

"Liverpool would naturally want the bigger sum, but Torres as made it perfectly clear that he won't be joining Manchester City, even though City would go as high as 200,000-a-week wages.

"Even so Chelsea would pay Torres 140,000-a-week and when you're at that level, the important thing for the player is to go to a club with Champions League football and the chance of winning the major honours.

Liverpool, who are still to appoint a new manager after parting company with Rafael Benitez last month, have not formally acknowledged Chelsea's approach.

The blues are also in the hunt to sign Yossi Benayoun from the Anfield club and Soccernet's source expects both players to be at Stamford Bridge next season.

"If you are asking my opinion both Torres and Benayoun will go to Chelsea, the Benayoun deal is very close to completion, but Torres won't be sorted out now until after the World Cup Finals."

I can understand why he wants to leave. I've seen some angry comments on other sites about Masch, but I can't blame him one bit. Uncertain financial situation, the manager who brought you in; has left, leaving the team without a manager (and whoever comes in will probably have a hard time with the board) and the board seem to have little ambition to chase titles.

Agree, can't blame Masch at all. Who would want to stay there at the moment? And not good riddance, he's one of our best players. I'm worried where the money will go too.

Out of the title race two games in? Joy.

This is a suprise. Wouldn't be complaining if it's true even though he came from Madrid. Nino, you may feel otherwise??

Manuel Pellegrini set to be unveiled as next Liverpool FC manager

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal to appoint Manuel Pellegrini as their next manager.

Reports in Chile now claim that the former Real Madrid coach signed a deal with the Reds yesterday morning following negotiations.

Pellegrini was dismissed from his role in the Spanish capital after failing to prise the La Liga title away from Barcelona last season despite his side amassing 96 points and netting over 100 goals.

His imminent appointment is expected to be welcomed by Pepe Reina, who worked under him during his time at Villarreal.

The Spain stopper believes Liverpool can expect a "really tough" season ahead if Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres leave the club following Rafael Benitez's departure and the continuing reluctance of the Anfield board to relinquish significant transfer funds.

He said: "Of course there is concern about Fernando and Stevie. Not just them, but others, too.

"Any team would count on Stevie and Fernando as big names and, for us, its the same.

"Without them, it would be really tough to be up there at the top next season."

Happy for Pellegrini to come in, his Real links are very not strong just the one season there. He's Chilean and only managed in Spanish speaking countries (Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, Spain), so I wonder what his English is like.

His spell at Villarreal was quite impressive and he did quite well for Real (Well if 75% wins is good ). I wonder how much 'sway' he has in bringing in new players, but more importantly keeping players.
