At least supporting Port Vale is supporting real football.  I am fed up with people only claiming to support the self appointed superclubs.  Give me Sc**thorpe v Vale against anything Chelsea play.

Yeah coz "real" fans only support sh*t teams don't they. A "real" fan never supported Man United did they?

Oh dear!!!

As far as I can see no one has had a go at Port Vale or the fact that Zephry is a Vale fan...fair play to him on that one.

Most footy fans will have a string of clubs that they 'look out' for, I certainly do.  The thing is supporting big clubs is easy - they are on the telly, they play in big matches, attract great footballers and attract the most column inches etc.  But that doesn't mean people are wrong for supporting them.

I support a big club and have done since I knew what football was.  Some people change allegiances - after seeing a particular match, that's just the way it is...that's what being a fan is all about surely?

Given the choice of watching Sc**thorpe v Port Vale, or say Spurs v Arsenal, I'd pick the Irons every time - NOT!

A Port Vale fan in New Zealand? Who'd have thought it?
UP THE STOKE!

I think we have a few more Valiants supporters in Wellington than Sjoke supporters - but I admit to watching Sjoke play Canterbury once in Christchurch - ah hell I even went out and watched them bring the League Cup back to Sjoke after beating Chelski in the 72 final. Oh and ok I admit it, I watched them beat West Ham in the semi-final on the tele, and I sneakily watched the final as well. But that's it honest.

Hooray!!!  Well Zephyr, you've finally got it, I'd almost given up all hope.  I am not 'suggesting' I wouldn't watch a team because of fan rivalry I AM SAYING THAT!

And your are spot on it does say something about me... I HATE THE MANCS!

You can watch or not watch what you like - but why you'd hate a club enough to not watch them is beyond me.

Cheers Zephyr, I will watch everyone except the scum. Though in saying that I am forced to endure them twice a season (barring cup comp clashes of course).

You'd better support the gunners during those matches Kiwill

Three for me, and two for them.

Zephyr - Why have you changed your avatar - the Port Vale one was better, if not a little blurred.  Who is it anyway?

Ah - it disappeared and I'll have to find it again. I fancied being Caleb Followill until I found it again.

There we go - back by popular demand. Although I wouldn't mind being Caleb for a day or three.

Hi Zephyr. Haven't come across many Stokies or Valiants in Auckland, though I know there's a couple from the Oatcake message board. To be honest, I always like to see the Vale do alright, unless they're playing us of course. It's always more fun when we're in the same division. I only lived in Stoke for a few years, but I was a season ticket holder at the Victoria Ground back in 91/92. You can imagine my horror when I heard Alan Ball being linked with the Knights last year! I wasn't born until '74 so missed the League cup success (though I've seen us win the mighty Autoglass trophy twice - you won't see Man Yoo or Chelski winning that anytime soon!)
Still, a few wins to finish the season with and we could be in the Prem next year.

I remember watching Stoke play NZ ( i think) at the Basin when I was a young nipper. I'm sure I also saw Bournemouth out here to. Even though they both won easily it didnt chnage me from supporting Liverpool.

Personally I thought it was quite good when Vale were in the division above Stoke - but it just didn't last long enough.

I was going to let it go but...
the real Man U fans have set up their own club FC United of Manchester as a reaction against over commercialisation, foreign ownership and prima donna players.  They have a family atmosphere, low prices and play out of Gigg Lane in Bury.  They have transformed non league football in the North West contributing valuable sums of money through the gate for struggling amateur and semi pro clubs that they play. Crowds are good often exceeding those for host club Bury.  Youngsters get to see and meet the players.

Two other "phoenix" clubs which are fan based real football clubs are AFC Telford United and AFC Wimbledon.  Check them out.  As Wellington are now a Phoenix club we should twin with them.

I loved ManUre's attitude with the sale of the club to the seppo's, as a few years ago they were one of the first clubs to float itself on the stock-market.  They take all the money that bought in, and then spent it on players, stadium enhancements, mega-stores, etc.  I have no issue with that, but did laugh when all the fans protested that the club was not for sale.  Um.......I think it is when it is floated on the market........

You can't have it both ways (unless you are a very good porn star)

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Personally I'm happy that Robbe Williams put some "commercialisation" into Port Vale - otherwise we'd be out of the league through having no money. In fact if a rich Russian would like to commercialise Port Vale further, please contact the club directly and give them billions. I'm sure Ronaldo will look quite at home strolling around the Wembley of the North. And when some fans form a break away AFC Port Vale - we'll laugh.

I thought Real fans lived in Madrid myself.

Yeah Zephyr just a very slight difference, ummmm liverpool were down 3-0 and it was in a champions league final, alot more pressure and such. I do admit that Man U were unstoppable against Roma. lpl_adam2007-04-19 21:33:57

I was impressed by the Liverpool come back (hell I almost jumped through the roof with every goal) - almost up there with Zephyr coming back from 6 - 1 down in the semi-final against Infinity a couple of seasons back, to take it out 11 - 8.

Of course our very last game we game back from 3 - 0 to win 4 - 3. Match report
