Our defence has not been that amazing. The amount of shots we have allowed teams, 15-20 per game, shows it is not as tight as need be. Maybe teams trying to test De Gea from distance, but still a few shots allowed.

Hmmmm well that was interesting watching. Never really got into it full swing, scoring two goals in a minute really made us complacent and we paid the price.

Great fight back from Basel, not convinced by Ferdinand and Jones together at the back at all. I think even Evans/Jones would be better complemented to each other. I have full confidence they will bring it together in the end.

Not sure how that was a penalty. Thought Valencia did well actually.

Of course we fought back and stopped the most important thing, allowing Basel the three points in the group.

Next up the two games against the Romanian team. Six points there and we will probably be in second spot in the group going into the last two fixtures. No reason to panic yet.

Great work by Bayern as well.

Well I thought my half time/full time double on United was looking pretty safe at half time but there you go. Still can't say I'm a massive fan of Carrick.

Carrick hasn't been great in the EPL but I think he's done a job in the Champions League. Opta Data has his passing at 97% success (76/78), 40/41 forward, 23/23 backwards, and 13/14 square.

Interesting at least.

The problem being Carrick only stands there and makes 1m passes.

Not getting 3 points at home is a problem. Getting max 6 v the Romanians wont save us as both Benfica and Basel should do that too. Pressure on to win away at Basel and home v Benfica.

Smalling and Vidic at centre back for me (also 2 best defensive headers of the ball) with Jones 3rd option. I'd have Evans ahead of Rio as cover. With 2 good headers at centre back, its easier to have Evra and Da Silva twins (or Jones) at fullback.
Smalling and Da Silvas played huge role in getting us to the title last year with Vidic marshalling them.
Valencia's body position shows he has no idea at right back really.

Could'nt agree more abpot Smalling, Vidic and Jones. As much as I don't rate Rio, I'm not sure for that I would go for Evans as between them they are rubbish.

Well stayed up until 3 to watch it and kind of wish I hadn't now. Pretty poor passing display from the whole side but in saying that, Norwich were playing with two defensive mifielders in front of the back four. Its definitely the worst Anderson and Nani have played this season so lets hope it was a one off. Valencia is definitely not a right back. Gotta feel sorry for the bloke, was signed as an attacking winger but can only get a game at right back. Hopefully he can get back to something close to how he was playing before his broken leg against Rangers last year.

Your right, a poor display from most players. Evra was probably the best of a bad bunch. The passing(in the first half) was as bad as I have seen this season. Rooney had the worst game for a long time. The one thing that AF got right was to swap Nani from the right to the left. In the first half you had him and Valencia holding hands.
If I were a Norwich fan I would be gutted, as they deserved something from the game.

So SAF rates rio/evans pairing so piss poor (with jones at right back) while da silvas smalling vidic injured, that he plays Valencia out of position?! FFS man. Don't know what berba has to do for a start. Fletcher carrick giggs looking decidedly pedestrian all of a sudden.need injured players back quick smart.

Haven't got a brilliant feeling about this one. Liverpool always get up for this one and we will have to be at the top of our game. Rumours of Vidic returning but I don't believe that will happen.

In another lolfest there is an article on goal.com where a former Liverpool player (can't be bothered rechecking who it was) named his combined Liverpool-United XI. Very interestingly he had Martin Kelly and Jamie Carragher in the back four!

Chief football writer Phil McNulty reports from Anfield: "General amazement here at Anfield as the Manchester United team-sheet is produced. Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Nani are all put on the bench by Sir Alex Ferguson - while Rio Ferdinand returns in central defence. Danny Welbeck gets the nod up front in what looks like a real gamble of a selection. Liverpool, meanwhile, recall captain Steven Gerrard for his first start since the 3-1 win in this fixture at Anfield last March. Kenny Dalglish clearly feels his captain is now fully fit after groin surgery, with Andy Carroll dropping to the bench."

True, but we were lucky to get a point.Although L/pool played well in patches, they don't have the ammunition to win the league. Think they will be in top four.
Suarez is such a f**king girl, if you look at him he falls over. Looks like he has been giving some lessons to a few of his team mates as well.
Looks like he might be in trouble with the FA for a few racist remarks to Evra. I can't understand why people react to name calling.Take a deep breath and get on with it.

Evra: Suarez racially abused me

Evra said: There are cameras. You can see him (Suarez) say a certain word to me at least 10 times.

Agreed. Not clinical enough to beat a pretty average side you put out (in terms of what you could have put out). Fair do's, you came for a draw and got it.

Suarez is a warrior. Evra is a c**t. Poor form from Luisito if true about racism. But Evra is a prat, fittingly he's your captain. Blowing a kiss, kissing the badge, whinging, pushing Suarez away and acting like a general git all game. Not to mention the way he fell over and spent about five minutes on the ground. Seemed to be alright when he was blowing kisses. Funny that, don't remember him being so tough at Anfield last season when he tried to square up to a fan though. guess he's alright when he knows he has security around him. Absolute c**t.

More than poor form. Disgusting if true. Suarez carrying on from where he left off in the Netherlands.

They have played better, but the Romanians were no mugs.
We had over 60% possession and should have done better.
We moan about the A league refs, but this bloke was not great. Apart from the Vidic red card( which was a sure yellow not a red) I thought he was very average.

Yeah agree here. Was good to see guys like Fabio getting a run as he naturally hasn't seen the football field in a while with guys like Smalling and Jones in front of him.

On a more sour note, reports were surfacing this week that my beloved Paul Pogba may be reluctant to sign a new contract at United because of his limited opportunities and Arsenal will reportedly offer him a contract if this turns out to be true. I would cry if this happens, we already stuffed up with Adem Ljacic which will probably prove to be a mistake so I hope it doesn't happen again here.

This however is interesting: https://www.goal.com/en/news/596/exclusive/2011/10/18/2716543/manchester-united-leading-race-to-sign-10m-croatian-star

Was reading somewhere that they got 6,500 people to their first CL game against Basel(I think) then 49,000 showed up to the Manchester United game. had a bit of a laugh at that one. Also their average yearly wage is something like 44000 pounds whereas the average weekly wage of United is something like 80000 pound,

Read somewhere that their record signing was their centre back for 85,000 Euros.
