Ron-Robert Zieler as well.

Yeah, the list would be better if it was only made up of academy players.

Also think of those 17 players only 10 are from the academy, Tevez, Howard, Foster, Saha, Obertan, Hargreaves and Mikel aren't from the academy.

This is a game we should have won. However, as I said 2 weeks ago, Basel are no mugs and the draw at home cost us.
You can't win every game and at this level it becomes a lot harder. Been in the final 3 out of the last 4 years. Won it once or twice. All the supporters from other clubs having a laugh.Who cares. The result is not life changing and although we lost we are most probably going to end up higher in the EPL than most of the rest.
I don't think that this will do the club or the players any harm, in fact it might do them a lot of good.
I will be backing Chelsea in the next round.

Seems you're taking it better than the players...

"It is embarrassing to be in the Europa League. I play for Manchester United to be in the Champions League," said Evra.

I would expect the player to think like that.

So i was thinking to myself and mentally preparing for the possibility we wouldn't beat Valencia and would be playing Europa League. Aside from he obvious disappointment I didn't see it as that horrendous an outcome.

The positives i thought of were the fact that it's still European football, you get a chance to play some teams you would otherwise not (which I, for some reason, quite like), and if Sir Alex doesn't care too much for it it's a good chance to rotate the squad and give some other players a taste of European football and help develop some youth in a fairly strong competition. Could be very good for the development of the squad. If Sir Alex does want to take it seriously then it's a good chance to pick up another reputable trophy.

Just some of the things i was thinking prior to our win over Valencia anyway.

Just listening to last weeks football weekly extra and some interesting stats regarding Utd's finances. Since Ronaldo left, Utd's net spend is negative 6million (over 3 years) - even Blackpool has spent more in that time.

Amazing what has been achieved with the burden of debt at the club. Also Pogba's contract expires at the end of the season and continental clubs are sniffing around, sign him up!

Despite what the media and all the ABU's say about United, the Glazers and the finances, Manchester United is THE best run sporting organisation in the world.

That net spend figure is warped with the sale of Ronaldo, which was not an everyday transfer, but a most extra-ordinary world record transfer.

Sure the Glazers are using the profits to pay off the club's debt, but at least the club is making profits and will continue to do so while David Gill and SAF run the club.

I'm not too sure how that is related to what I was talking about, but have you seen the state of Arsenal's goalkeepers? Arsenal couldn't afford 17 pounds to spend on a keeper. People in glass houses etc etc

You mean Szczesny? Cause he's not too bad. Plays against Europe's best in the Champions League too, unlike some.

Yes, it is not an everyday transfer but you would think that most other clubs without the financial constraints would spend available money where needed. Especially a club that is (normally) competitive in a lot of different competitions which can put pressure on the squad. We could have done with at least one more first team midfielder this season.

Since 2005 Chelsea's net spend is 245mil, City's 426mil and Utd's is 58mil.

Sure, the week we got knocked out of the Champions League, the in-form Carrick was suspended, and Cleverly and Anderson were injured, and Fletcher is still unfit so the squad looks thin in midfield and we play 2 wingers there. How many centre-midfielders should we have on the pay-roll? Is that the best way to run a club, to buy a new player everytime somebody gets injured for 3 months? let's say we bought Goetzhe from Dortmund, then Cleverly, Morrison and Tunicliffe would never get a game, and I don't want that. This club is built on 125 years of local lads getting their chance. It might not be until next season that we see Morrison and Tunicliffe but we should wait rather than spend $20 million now to plug a gap.

Anyone remember 2005? We were terrible and plenty of people were calling for Fergie's head and saying the team needed an overhaul. We went on to win 3 titles in a row and a Champions League in Moscow. In the words of the great Sir Alex Ferguson "you's are all f**kin idiots"
