Owen leaving would be one less name on the wage bill though.

Three for me, and two for them.

He won't be leaving.  He hasn't released a brochure yet.

Actually, the last striker ex-Newcastle is doing quite nicely at Oldham.  8 in 18 is very respectable!

Ahem.  Back to ManU news:

A shame about De Gea, but it explains to me anyway, why he has been so poor.

As Newcastle and Liverpool play on Sat and the Arsenal Game is on Sun then these two teams will probably go above you (given only 1 point diff), putting you in, wait for it 7th.

Good on you Alexf, I was waiting on him to work that out himself.

You might want to cut back on the lagers yourself. Or look up the definition of "probably".

Meh. They'll probably say they're gonna beat us by 5 goals now to put us 6th. Or some such rubbish.

Also, what's with the whole Newcastle/Man U love in on here? Aren't you two established (if not fierce) rivals? All seems very strange.

Three for me, and two for them.

It's a gentlemen's rivalry.  You wouldn't understand.

edit:  I'll try to explain, however.  With Newcastle at least two seasons away from mounting a serious title challenge, the clubs are competing at different levels.  Our rivalry with ManU was about who would be champions, not bad blood.  In the unlikely event that the Red Devils slip down to contending for the Europa League places, or the more likely case in which Newcastle is once again capable of putting in a dark horse run in the Premier League, the relationship will get more heated.

You might say that we're enjoying being on good terms and looking forward to hating each other.

You need to start working on your jibes about Alan Pardew.  We're your rivals for Europa League places now.  (Not to mention the new preferred destination for continental talents moving to England.)

And... on-topic: ZM has posted a post-mortem of the match at Emirates.

The first half was as poor a game as I have seen in a long while. Both sides were guilty of poor passes and giving the ball away. The second half was far more exciting as it was end to end stuff and could have ended up something like 5-3. Once again poor finishing by both sides summed up the 2nd half.
I have been critical of our defence for some time, but Arsenals is even worse.
The three goals were well taken, but once again good defending would have stopped all of them.
Will take the 3 points, but both clubs should know that they will not win this league.

First half we played OK, but 2nd half we did not even turn up. When you defend as badly as that you don't derseve to win.
Still, we have won one trophy, which is more than I expect most other teams to win this season.
De Gea would be lucky to make an ASB side. He is crap.Leggy2012-01-29 10:00:00

A bizarre day of football news and results, but we are back level at the top, thanks to Gibbo. Can go to Stamford Bridge with plenty of confidence.

I was away so missed the live game.Saw the replay and could not believe that we only scored two goals. Was impressed with Pogba when he came on. Utd. need to ensure his long term at Old Trafford.
Still we got the three points and although we are equal with City it is now up to us.
Love these other supporters that just hope other results go their way so they can sort of keep up with the the main challengers.

Well you did rely on Everton Beating City in order to draw level at the top

True, but I was aiming at teams a lot further down. Not Chelsea though.

Nest season we might struggle to make the top 6.

Is Jonny Evens the worst CB to play for United? That was very poor.

I think he is. The problem he has is that he will have a great game and then three poor ones.
Considering we were 3-0 down,I guess I was OK with the point.
However all of Chelseas goals were poor defending. Ref had a shocker. Both sides would not be happy with him.Leggy2012-02-06 19:21:26

Absolute rubbish... hes been their best CB this season to be honest and the defensive lynchpin. Hes had to make do with 5 different partners this season - including Carrick! In days gone by fans used to cheer on a player who came through the ranks as one of their own - these days if they are not a big money, big name signing then they are dismissed as rubbish and not allowed to grow into the role.

Evans is young and hasa lot to learn. I can remember 10 years ago Alan Hanson used to pick apart a young  Rio Ferdinand, highlighting his many deficencies and look what he became. Lay off Evans, let him develop and he will be a great centre back for years to come

Well said that man. Obviously those people who think Evans is United's worst ever centre back have no idea that United played for 114 years before the Premiership was invented. There were some terrible players in the 70's and 80's. I'm on record here saying before that Jonny Evans is a fantastic talent, he's played over 100 games for United already! His confidence is growing as he plays a run of games and he is looking bigger and stronger.

I've noticed the haters have been pretty quiet recently. Too much negativity on this forum from plastic supporters. Evans will be first choice for the next 10 years and there's a good chance he will end up as Captain.

To say that he has been our best CB this season is not true.As I mentioned earlier, his problem is he is not consistent. When he is on he is pretty good. Has tended to give away too many fouls and penalties. As to being young, 24 is hardly young.I think he has the talent and he has improved in the last year.I hope he makes it.AF must have had doubts as well as he was close to selling him to Sunderland at the start of the season.
As for Rio, he was 23 years old when he first played for Utd.

Good 3 points today. Could have scored more.
Biggest disappointment was Surarez not shaking hands with Evra and Evera's over the top celebrations after the game.
Both these guys should stop behaving like kids.
Will wait for the fallout from Liverpool management.
