Manchester United (Part 2)
The annoying thing about Ole is that he is extremely likeable. As someone who has fun hating Man Utd, this is not accpetable.
Yea i too am struggling with this. Just go with the idea that he's so likeable that its annoying and actulally unlikeable.
Got very lucky and then straight out cheated.
Need to take our chances should have been 2-1 up from the first half. Then completely dominated the second, barring John Moss.
Looked emotional and physically drained from mid week though.
If you asked me at the start of the week if I’d take victory over PSG in exchange for losing to Arsenal I would’ve taken it. 4th place Arsenal cementing their crown.
Thought we looked pretty "flat" but that can happen after the midweek exploits. Didn't take our chances & thems the breaks you get sometimes for their goals.
I'm sure the goons will delighted as they move closer to what seem their only ambitions these days - top 4 & some juvenile celebration called St.Totts. day ;-)

2 nil up against Manchester United and they’re chanting about Spurs? Tragic.
Hahahaha take the lemons out ya mouths lads
musta told Ole he got the job after PSG!
Oh cool, another over reaction to one result. And people wonder why clubs have no stability, no long term thinking and media sesationalise any sign (or smoke) of trouble.
United were flat and did not deserve to win. And for that to happen against a team we are in close competition with is really disappointing. But a few months back we were not competing with Arsenal or Chelsea, let alone Spurs too. And the performance was not too bad, we had the same number for shots, more on target and more of the possession. So maybe a draw would have been a fair result. There are fine margins at the top and today United came out on the wrong side. Arsenal played well so good on them for the result.
I think both sides are pretty evenly matched, but with plenty of weaknesses to exploit. It would have been good to really put a marker down for a top 4 (or 3) place today but there are going to be more chances to do that before the end of the season.
United still have City, Chelsea and Watford at home with Everton and Wolves away. Arsenal also have Everton and Watford away so it seems like those teams will have a bearing on how this all ends up.

The salt here is terrific. Laca went down easily, no doubt, but Fred still pushed him in the back - it can be soft and still be a pen. Rashford and Lukaku were terrible all game - particularly Rashford, who I thought had a mare.

Oh please. 100% dive. Even if he was pushed he’s 12 inches away from eating grass before the “push” anyway.
If it were Ashley Young the outrage would be horrific.
Never a foul anywhere else on the pitch and never a penalty. United’s against PSG is soft. This is straight out wrong. :-)
But 9 consecutive away wins. Superb stuff from Ole and team.

He clearly nudges him in the back after losing out in a shoulder to shoulder. I already admitted it was soft, and he went down - that much is obvious. Doesn't mean it wasn't a pen. VAR wouldn't overule that.
Kane has made his career on that shark.
Neymar's name springs to mind.
Meh, it was soft, but the second you lean into anyone in the box you're putting yourself at risk. Freds still learning the English game but for what it's worth I think he actually played better than Matic and Pogba, was certainly the busier of the three, I like his tenacity to win back the ball in the middle.
I can't help but feel the team really lacks leadership on the pitch. Someone who can spur them on and plays with their heart on a sleeve as an example to the rest. In my eyes that player is Herrera.
Were beaten by a more organised, more disciplined and more clinical Wolves side today. The pace of our front three was negated perfectly and the front two were able to put pressure on Smalling, Lindelof and Matic which slowed our build up even more.
Needed to shift their defense more so maybe the 4-4-2 diamond was not the right approach. We need a good, free flowing game just to get back into the rhythm which has seemed to drain from us after the PSG game.

Good summary. Just looking lethargic. Need a good rest to fire up again.

Or perhaps Ole not as good as some think :)

I would hope no one thinks that Ole is in that top class of managers (yet :P). But right now, he and the team he has is perfect for United and is having his first drop in form so no complaints from me. United have still obtained the most points in the league since Ole has been in charge.

Bringing in two players who have been out for weeks and dropping players that did not deserve it tells me he is not that smart. He did the same against Arsenal and it backfired. Lost 2 out of 3. Not great at far as I am concerned.
Are you kidding me Leggy? You're sitting on a mountain of hindsight.
When Mourinho was ballsing up struggling to beat the mud of the league you were blaming the players every week. Now after two losses - a good performance vs Arsenal, and a bad performance against Wolves - it's suddenly all the managers fault?
Please.

Suggest you read the Manchester Evening News and see what the Utd fans have to say. The same as I think.
Was not a good performance against Arsenal. Perhaps you have different standards of what is good.
Not just blaming the Manager. The players were crap, but you don't drop players that are doing OK and bring back players that have been out for weeks.
You don't have to be very smart to work that one out.
He also dropped De Gea. So maybe's there's more at play than this one game?
Mind boggling I know.
Again, hindsight is a very easy thing. Let's hear you put some opinions down before they happen.

OK We won't make the top four. Are you kidding about De Gea. Romario has always played FA Cup games.
Not really a case of hindsight, just understanding football.

Exactly my point about Romero Leggy - maybe he was rushing the injured players back in order to give other guys a rest.
Again though, hardly a bold prediction considering we're not in the top 4 and there's only 8 games left.

Perfect summary.

No manager in his right mind would ever rush injured players back to give fit players a rest.

Another inane comment from a troll. I never said anything about understanding football if you don't read the Manchester Evening News.
You obviously don't understand English. What I said was-- read that paper and see what the ' UTD FANS' have to say.
Getting in early before anyone does something that could lead to a ban, just as Bill and Ted says

Thats so clearly not the case. A team with Matic, Herrera, Lingard and Martial is much better than one with McTominay, Fred, Pereira and Mata. And with an international break afterwards, I think it was a 'right minded' decision to play the players of higher quality.
I also highly doubt it that a fair representation of what the fans think ends up in MEN. Most fans still want Ole to stay and think he has done more than a reasonable job thus far. Yes, maybe he has only done what is expected of a United team, but that is better than what we have had for most of the past 5+ seasons

Funny how the team with McTominay, Fred, and Pereria in it was the one to beat PSG. Agree about Mata-- need to sell him. But the fact remains that when players are out injured for some week the smart thing to do is to ease them back in, not start them when you have fit players available. I think Ole has done a good job but at this level he is very inexperienced. Regardless, even he admits that we need at least 3 quality players ( we need more) to compete with the likes of Man City.

So McTominay, Fred and Pereira should play each week? Interesting opinion (one you would be hard pressed to find in MEN)
I like how in one sentence, you say how he is inexperienced but needs three more players to compete with City - who have taken less points since he has been in charge, and are top of the league. I am happy with the state of things like such thanks.
Leggy - since you think he's inexperienced at "this level" because he "rushed players back" - do you think 12 months managing a premier league team would somehow wisen him up to the fact that you quite often can't rush injured players back?
Or do you think, given Ole has spent several years managing professional senior sides, there's perhaps a scenario or piece of information in the decision making process that you've not yet thought about as to why he would choose to play those players?
Further who do you think would recognise when it's right to return players from injury better - Ole Gunnar, Mike Phelan, and Michael Carrick, or Manchester Evening News?
This idea that he's inexperienced is just English media hogwash. If it was up to the press Pep Guardiola never would have been given a chance a Barcelona right at the start of his career.
The best example of this is Real Madrid, who despite appointing very experienced managers have gone back to the ex-player whose first gig was at the club itself. Turns out things like culture and footballing values are more important that a bumper CV.

It is not my opinion that he is inexperienced at this level, it is a fact. How many weeks has he been an EPL manager? MU is slightly different than some Norwegian club.I mentioned the fans comments in the MEN, not the newspaper. I'm not anti Ole but I'm also not fawning over him like the media.

Yea I don't think the debate is around his experience at this level. He is clearly at his first big club. BUT he is at the club he spent 10 years playing at and 4 years coaching at. And he has other experienced coaches alongside him.
I don't think anyone thinks Ole is perfect. But right now, he is as perfect as we are going to get for the job and our situation.
He is doing the right things, saying the right things and maybe the two games since the PSG game have just been at the end of an intense stretch that was a bit much for both the players and himself.. If he loses three games and draws only two per 19 matches, I think i would like him to stay
We've also had a fairly decent injury crisis; just Ole has chosen not to use it as an excuse.
