Newcastle United thread

I don't think there's a Newcastle United thread on here (couldn't find one in first few pages) so apologies if I'm repating stuff said elsewhere, but are any other fans concerned about one/some/all of the following?

a) The complete lack of signings so far this summer, particularly given the fact the squad was stretched close to breaking point last year

b) The departure of English players - eg Perch, Simpson, Harper and probably Dan Gosling - not to sound xenophobic but Steven Taylor is probably the only British player who'd make the first team when everyone's fit, which surely isn't good

c) Joe Kinnear. Say no more on that one.

Also for any Newcastle fans in Wellington, if anyone would like someone to watch televised games with or just generally bemoan our side's misfortunes, please give me a shout! I'm over here on a gap year and keen to meet some fellow Toon supporters!

toon fan in wellington.

Bit of choking action by Colo in the last game. I think another striker or two is what we need.. our midfield I am relatively happy with. same with defense.

a lot will depend on a whole good season from ben arfa

If you going to get pinged 200k for a headbutt at least make it a decent one

I suspect Mr Pardew would be out of a job had he thrown a "proper" headbutt.

What have the FFA got to do with it? Haven't they got enough to do with the hiding from the RBB and such like

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

You remember that too? Big news at the time and it later screwed him  up for coaching.

Good luck Geordies, lot of fans picking you for instant return. Gonna be fun in the zone where I am. A couple of Geordies, a PNE fan, Several Palace, a sad QPR fan. The last two seasons have sucked results wise but the humour I have experienced makes it bloody brilliant.

Wow 52,079 for their home game v Huddersfield.

Another loss though, 2–1 to Huddersfield. Surprising given Newcastle's squad. Looks like a long season ahead of them unless they regather form immediately. Dwight Gayle the scorer for Newcastle; Wells and Jack Payne the scorers for Huddersfield.

young squad too. got plenty of years in your players. unlike Norwich ...

Word is that amongst fans, Newcastle and Norwich should be up. I just hope the 6-0 thrashing and out classed performance of the Magpies, doesn't make them complacent and fans expecting too much. As for QPR, yet another season of mediocracy is in store. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank appears to be Chris Ramsey ver 2. It just pisses me off that we have some talented players but no leaders on or off the pitch. A Manager that needs to come up with less excuses and better results.

Spanish U-21 mid Mikel Merino signed on season-long loan from Borussia Dortmund.

No relation. Honest.

At a time when QPR and the Nix are depressing to follow, I searched you tube for various characters in the game. This gentleman was so under-rated it wasn't funny. Every time I saw the Magpies play on Sky, He would score some spectacular effort. So to cheer us all up.....

I.e., Qatar and Saudi Arabia still hate each other.

Thought I’d fire this up on the basis I’ve been following the project, in an almost fan like manner…

Also wondering if there’s a really substantial gap between Gordon and Andersen?

Is Maxi terminal or will he be back in a couple of games?

Wowee nice goals there against the Saints.

Geez there’s a real retro feel to things. Man U Arsenal with some feeling, and now an attacking Newcastle into a cup final with Manchester United also.

Isak not having much more fun than Wood did, perhaps less, at Bournemouth.
Longstaff seeming to be getting some good chances bursting through from the midfield.
Maxi on, creates the goal and then off injured again.
Lucky to come away with a draw in the end.
Still very solid stats on Howe, but perhaps a mini-slump?
All in all not much fun in the rain at Bournemouth.

Newcastle played some good stuff, but horrible weather and a difficult day for the strikers up against Allison. Isak, Wilson and Maxi all had some miserable moments and Almiron had a good chance saved too. Liverpool resurgent.

I just don't understand why you'd do what Nick Pope did at 2-0 down. Madness.

I guess their strategy to cope with Liverpool's terrific counter attacking was the Pope would be out like a shot. I think either he slipped or the ball swirled away from him at the last minute to put him in that situation, but yeh it looked totally mad.

Absolutely rubbing salt in the wound from Liverpool to inflict on Newcastle not just the loss, but Karius in goal in a final.
