Having read some reports, I am pretty sure he will re-sign with Arsenal. They just sound like typical tabloid rubbish to me.

does anyone know of any website where you can watch the game tomorrow?

Links will be here tomorrow.

Download the necessary program (sopcast, tvu, tvants etc) and enjoy.

I would have been working from home tomorrow and catching it too but alas I have too much to do.

Fabianski
Justin Hoyte, Djourou, Senderos, Traore
Walcott, Denilson, Silva, Diaby
Van Persie, Bendtner.

Subs: Mannone, Sagna, Eduardo, Randall, Gavin Hoyte.

I thought Eduardo might start ahead of Bendtner given recent form. No Diarra means he is on his way.

0-1 Spurs at half time.

Apparently a cracking game.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Eduardo and Sagna on now.

Djourou and Senderos both looking terrible, which doesn't bode well for the month while Toure is away.

If I was Arsene I'd be on the phone on the sideline looking for a CB transfer to cover us.

I disagree completely. That's not showing faith in the kids, plus we have plenty of EPL, FA, CL games coming up.

If the kids bow out, so be it.

yea but 'the kids' have only ever got them so far.
the return leg is the 23rd our time and then thay have FA Cup against stoke/newcastle on the 27th and then newcastle EPL on the 30th.
arsene plays the forementioned kids in the carling cup and the fa cup and since they have the carling cup semi then a three day break before the fa cup against stoke/newcastle then surely he has to play some first teamers in one of those games because the same 11 can't possibly play 2 games in 4 days to the best of their abilities. if he strengthens the team for the carling cup, not fully strengthen it but maybe play like rosicky or flamini then the first teamers that he does play will have a week to recover for the game against necastle on the 30th.

after all the carling cup game is a semi final against tottenham so they pretty much have to win it.

Good analysis on the fixtures. Perhaps we will see a bit more rotation than normal, with some first teamers into the CC team and some second teamers into the FA team.

As for the kids only getting us so far, I'm sure you don't need reminding that they just about won us the final last year. I think it's great that Arsene shows faith in them even in the 'big' games. It's great for the squad and it's great for Arsenal.

Edit: and with that, I have made 1000 posts.

Most of these "kids" would be 1st team regulars at any Premiership side outside the top 4. Look at some of the players who couldn't make it at Arsenal but are regularly playing like David Bentley, Fabrice Muamba and Sebastion Larsson. Gooner 4 Life2008-01-10 12:46:44

yea i just went to arsenal.com and looked at the match reports for the semis and final last year considering the semi is the same and the final is likely to be the same and the arsenal sides for last years semi's were strangely stronger than the team for the final. fabregas, hleb, flamini and toure were all in the squads for the game at tottenham which they drew. and adebayor, fabregas, rosicky, flamini, toure, clichy and gilberto who was first team then were all in the 3-1 win at the emirates.
and today sagna, van persie and eduardo were the only first teamers used, so to get a draw was a good effort, but to win at white hart line i think some strengthening will have to happen especially in the midfield.

also apparently away goals don't count in the carling cup. last year it was 1 1 at the emirates after 90 so arsenal would've gone through on their 2 away goals but they played extra time

..and in other news: Senderos, Djourou and RVP are all injured. Grrrrrrr. Why two CB's?!

Game sounds like a thriller, going to take the next tie off work so I can at least stream and watch. I have to agree with francsernal, that we need a little more first team in the next round. Something like Flamini and Hleb for instance (i.e over Gilberto and Diaby). Thats all i wish for. Good to see Eduardo impacting the game so much, he has definatley been a saviour the last few games.

RVP injured again? WTF?!

Permalink Permalink
over 18 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

yeah you said it, cant quite believe that he has managed to get injured again. hope it is just precautionary and wenger is trying to make it sound worse than it is. Kills me more that we are down two defenders. Gilberto or Song there this weekend if i guess?

By the sounds of things Djourou and Senderos may as well have not been there anyway today.

I really hope Wenger's got some transfer targets lined up for CB.

BTW Song is off to the African Cup.

maybe a change of formation is in order.

            -----Almunia------
           Sagna--Gallas--Clichy
Walcott--Fabregas--Flamini--Rosicky
                    --Hleb--
          Adebayor---Eduardo

or he could play walcott as a striker in a 3-4-3 and put hleb back on the wing.
but im thinking if we need defensive cover for birmingham gilberto will get the nod

Wenger indicated that he could use Gilberto, Hoyte or Sagna in CB.

I think we'll stick with 4-4-2, Gilberto and Gallas in CB.

Can't see Wenger playing 3 at the back.

Agreed, I think Gilberto will start at centre back.

not that birmingham pose the biggest attacking threat in the league

Cant see Arsene ever playing 3 at the back.I think one of the 2 will be fit for the weekend,if not Gilberto next to Toure.

Cant believe RVP may have picked up ANOTHER knock,at least Adebayor will be fresh for the weekend after not playing the last 2 games. Eduardo is not doing too bad for himself either- 14 starts, 11 goals

Cant wait for next weeks 2nd leg now, the morning off work is a definite to hear 4000 gooner giving it to the Yids, "the w*nky tottenham hotspur went to see the Pope...."

This formation will never ever happen. It's far too attacking, we'd get torn to shreds at the back. You're dreamin...

Also, on your FA Cup/Carling Cup selection comments on the previous page, not entirely correct i don't think. We don't play the kids fo rthe FA Cup - our lineup for that is generally much stronger. Not always full strength, but near enough to it when we play the premiership sides.

I definitely say stick with the kids right through the carling cup. It's great for their development, the bulk of our current first team were bought up through the carling cup - it obviously works. And it shows good consistent team selection - if the carling cup kids got us this far it would be very cruel to omit them when it comes to the crunch. It gives them some experience for dealing with the FA Cup/Champions League knock-out pressure in future too.

yea but what im saying is why play a stronger side for a 4th round match at home against a team that the kids have already beaten or a championship side that the 'kids' could easily beat, and then play a weaker team in a semi final against tottenham away, it'd be stupid. PLUS, the FA cup game comes 3 or 4 days before the EPL game against Newcastle so if he played the young kids for that one then his premier league startes would have time to rest for the EPL game.

the carling cup team was actually almost identical to the FA cup one aswell, they had 9 players in common, the only difference is Jens Lehmann for Lukasz Fabianksi, and Kolo Toure for Van Persie. so effectively the same.

all im saying is i dont think the young kids can play 2 games in 4 days to the best of their abilities, which means one game their has to be rotation that will mean first teamers get to p;lay, and it is logical for that game to be the one against tottenham because it is a harder game away from home in a semi final and the players have more time to rest.

oh and i think a back three of sagna gallas and clichy and with flamini/gilberto given a CDM role would be a much more stable defence than most premier leagues have.

For me, one of the features of Arsenal that I love is how Sagna/RB and Clichy/LB get so far forward on the flanks. Playing three at the back would severely limit their ability to do this.

yea i was just going to say half the time we end up with a back three anyway when sagna/clichy go forward and their crosses get cleared or the ball just gets turned over and the other team counter.   when they do that flamini and fabregas always cover for them and it hasnt really been a problem.
i dont think it'll be a problem though because on arsenal.com they said djourou is out but senderos should be back. Van persie's injury isn't really a problem but he caught the flu so wont play against birmingham.
