Rangers ran into financial problems in 2012

Anyone know of a good piece on Rangers' demotion? Something that covers the events decently.

I'd like to send it on to the author of the piece above.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

The best thing that can happen in Scottish football is that Rangers get back to the top league.

the comments highlight the problem that a "good article" is invariably  one the most lines up with our predetermined position on the matter.

Somewhat remarkably there is people who believe Rangers were hard done by, and another group who think despite the years of systematic cheating it should be pardoned for the good of the game...

Well put it this way, Rangers are more popular in Scotland than Arsenal are in England.

They are also more hated in Scotland than Arsenal are in England

I am not a Rangers fan, but I think Scottish Football needs a club like this. Probably one of the most successful teams in the UK and I hope they make it back.

So that once again for the next 30 years it can become a 2 team EPL. ;)

Better than a 1 team SPL I suppose.

I did hear that Celtic were also under investigation and in a similar position. Imagine an EPL without both of them. A level playing field.

You're being generous.. The "Old Firm" would be "Championship" sides.

What a team whose supporters continue to promote religious bigotry from centuries past ?
One would have hoped fans of the new Rangers or "The " Rangers as they are now called ,would have taken this chance to end their intolerance but no same old knuckle dragger's persist with the  same old hatreds  (remember the last club was  liquidated leaving millions of pounds in unpaid debts to businesses all over the UK  ,the new club was  started by Charles Green from an off the shelf company  SEVCO Scotland Ltd  before having a name change to The Rangers, same strip ,same stadium, different club! )

Surprising that someone supporting a team from Manchester would want a bar of The Rangers after the way their fans acted  when playing against FC Zenit in the UEFA cup 2008 in Manchester ,disgusting behaviour !

Been trying hard to stay off this blatant trolling thread Leggy. They are just the oppressed and obsessed. You are right in what you say but there are some who are happy with the mess that is scottish football at the moment. Poor jambo's got the obssession worse than most...never mind, in Scotland its all about the Rangers.. We are the people

I struggle to believe anyone could think the original post is in any way or form trolling.

Who is happy "with the mess that is Scottish Football". Do you feel the current mess is better or worse than the previous 20 years?

You give yourself away with your claim of "years of systematic cheating". Show me anywhere that states that was what Rangers were demoted for. But i will humour you...whats your club then?

Cheated the system by not paying taxes? Thus keeping that money to buy players they would not normally have had the funds to buy? I'd call that systematic cheating.

It beggars belief that anyone can argue about the Rangers situation. They were caught red-handed, punished (lightly) and yet some still claim to be hard done by.

Rangers were demoted because a new club had to sort from the bottom tier. The reasons around why they found themselves in that position are varied, but certainly include years of systematic cheating.

Obviously you do not agree, which is simultaneously remarkable and disturbing.

My club is Coastal Spirit. Currently (to the best of my knowledge) we have no issue with the IRD or the rest of the league not wanting us to play because we consider ourselves above the law.

You could hardly compare Coastal Spirit with Glasgow Rangers in any shape or form.

Why?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I'd like it to go back to the 70's when Scotland had a strong team and although Rangers & Celtic ruled, the rest of the teams put up a decent fight and Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hearts & Hibs could be taken seriously.

Unfortunately money dictates that's unlikely to happen. Sadly.

Tell you what's funny though the dirty digger duo  Craig Moor and Kevin Muscat walking away with a cool million pounds each thanks to the corrupt  EBT tax avoidance  scheme run by the former Gers ,2 million quid for utter sheeeiiitte ,hilarious no wonder you went bust !!

You were the people all right !

The best thing for Scots fitba would be if both of the Ugly Sisters piss off down south thus allowing the Scots leagues to rationalise themselves.

The In Firm made hay throughout the 80s & 90s (especially during the Heysel fall out) and sadly it has so far skewed the playing field that the league is becoming less marketable year on year.

Scotland is a country of less than 6 million folk and too many ginger people.  Rational thinking takes a while to arrive at this table but I hope it does.  There would be some pain, there's no doubt about that, but being more along the lines of Irish/Welsh football is a more sustainable model.

Rangers lost 14 million quid last year. Spent 7.8 Million pounds on playing staff to win the Scottish 3rd Division, and 10.1 million on 'non-playing staff costs'. In the Scottish 3rd Division?  No wonder they went tits up before. Obviously the lessons haven't been learned.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
