Yet another early exit for Scotlands best. They should postpone the 1 team SPL for the season so Rangers can make it a 2 team SPL.

Like fark! It'll be the Jambos coming up this season. Sod the Ugly Sisters.

I'm not fussed if the H*bs pish or The Newco Rangers come up with us.

How old is Leggy?  Is he 12 or 72?

The Jambos beat the filthy Blue Noses at Ibrox; 2-1.  Rangers (NewCo) equalised in stoppage time but within 60 seconds Hearts went ahead.

Brilliant start!

Hibbies loosing to Alloa, apparently only a semi pro team, seem out of the race for promotion already.

02 Sep 05:01

Hibs have lost their last 3 but don't forget there is a playoff system now. It looks like Hearts vs Rangers for the automatic spot but I can't see Hibs not being in the top 4 in a ten team competition.

02 Sep 07:22

Cool, so next season the 2 team SPL will resume and then the 8 team rest of them.

Well, isn't that better than a one team competition?

I mean you can call Scottish football shit if you want but countries like Ireland, Finland, Denmark and Georgia all have similar populations and worse competitions.

Denmark has a higher UEFA country coefficient than Scotland. Apart from that, I agree.

I'd imagine Ireland is in a similar position as us with football being a minority sport, Gaelic, Hurling, and even Rugby are probably more popular.

In scotland football is clearly the number one sport, and they have one of the highest turnouts per population to games.

Debatable.

Three for me, and two for them.

I didn't know that. I would wager that Scotland should be able to get past Denmark once Rangers return to Europe.

Would Rangers be able to compete with Celtic again? Will they have the financial strength?

I don't know. Rangers crowds have dropped significantly this season to about 31k because of anger with their board. I think it will take a few seasons but eventually parity should resume.

03 Sep 04:57

I didn't call Scottish football shit, what I said was there were two distinct groups, Rangers/Celtic and a huge gap with everyone else.

Prior to the SPL coming into its own sure there was the usual 2 domination but the gap between the rest of the Scottish teams amongst themselves was slight. Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen and even St Mirren, Partick, Dundee, Dundee United and Motherwell did ok. Now you have how many divisions and its all mickey mouse imo.

What I would live to see again is two divisions or 20 teams in each playing each other twice only and a lot closer competition between all of the teams. Just as Man United found out last season, during a time of rebuilding even the very best can struggle.  It would be nice to see Rangers and Celtic being given a closer run for their money.

Hope this clarifies my point of view.

My post was more in regards to a general feeling rather than as a direct response to your post. On the one had, Scottish football is always going to struggle because it is probably about the same standard as League One.

Do you think 2 divisions of 20 teams would lead to a more exciting competition?

03 Sep 07:02

That's how it was before the SPL was created. I like the idea of playing more teams and only twice. This 3 times crap annoys me but that might be just me of course.

My late friend Eddie O'Neill from Stokes Valley was an ardent Celtic man and he used to loan me his Celtic videos and there were some awesome games on there. When Sky used to show the Scottish games I watched them too.

I actually think Scottish football back then was much much more ruthless than its English counterpart. Harx out tackles and take no prisoners. Tackles from behind. Yet there was also a large amount of skill too. But once Celtic and Rangers started bringing in the foreign players,  things changed for the worse. They got large amounts of money for winning everything and few else got a look in or a chance. Grenwich Morton springs to mind. Its ironic that Scotland was at its strongest during the 1974 and 1978 world cups. Before the foreign invasionand the exodus of Scottish players to England.

The Scottish League would be far worse without the "foreign invasion".

I think most leagues would be better without the "foreign invasion" if there wasn't also a player exodus at the same time. Look at Man U. We need players so we just pull out our cheque books. Back in the day we would probably have to buy some English players of whom there aren't many around. If you wanted to be a big club then it would take a few years of building a team up. Football has changed and the quality is definitely far superior of 30 years ago. I can't help but feel that quality has come at the expense of passion and a more even competition.

Scottish football looks incredibly uneven but it's hardly alone. Portuguese football would perhaps be a fair comparison.

03 Sep 08:53

Passion has gone from the game. Now you get theatrics and "Show me the money!"

We ara peeple!!!

The mighty Hamilton Academical are top of the table right now. Not bad for a promoted side but probably more a statement of Scottish football than anything.

Obviously meant Alloa was only a semi pro team.

What a hit against the Fester Road crowd.  'Mon the Jambos!

Wow, awesome. Scottish Championship so interesting this season. Surprised at how well Hearts have started after last season, not many relegated teams have got off to such a flying start, and vs 'Rangers' as well. Hibs were struggling to start with but are looking good now. Very glad that Dundee got out of that division last season!

28 Oct 01:26

Hearts only went down because of financial issues, Hibs went down because they were crap so not really that surprising, Hearts on top of Rangers however is.

28 Oct 01:45

Mike Ashley taken control of Rangers. Expect weirdness.

Credit goes to Hearts for bouncing out of the financial issues well still. Many clubs have gone through such things and not landed back on their feet so quickly.

Well we are finally going to have another Old Firm.

22 Nov 18:08

another win for the Mighty Jambos over The Rangers (NewCo). 9 point gap in the Scots Championship now.

Interesting how both financially muddled clubs have moved forward over the last cupla years. Would any Bluenoses have preferred if they'd followed the Hearts fans model?

I expect it will still be these two sides that go up.

Does anyone know if there's any teams still unbeaten in any of the  British football league competitions this season since Chelsea's defeat to Newcastle yesterday  ?

Brora Rangers.

07 Dec 05:58

Heart of Midlothian are undefeated in the league. The New Saints (Greg Draper's team) are undefeated in the Welsh league and in the cups.

27 Dec 12:34

Watching Hibs vs Rangers. Hibs 2-0 up after 11 minutes. Awesome stuff!
