ok, i want to start this up for you people to voice your opinion as to who is the best signing of this summers transfer period. im also thinking best value for money as well, try to justify your choice as best as you can.
MY PICK<> well, for me its simple. this may sound biased, but deco. he may be over 30, but what team would not want to pick up a midfielder as talented as him for under 10 million pounds. he is great at the passing game, and will be a big boost to the blues midfield.
MY OTHER TEAM PICK<>for me its robbie keane. he may have chewed up a bit of liverpools money, but once they have been working together for a month or two, the keane/torres strikeforce will in my opinion be an effective goal scoring unit.

Samir Nasri for 12m or so.
Deco not a bad buy either.
And I think Keane will prove to be one of the more average purchases in terms of return on investment.

Well as a United fan I can hardly be biased as we havn't made any signings. But Robbie Keane is certainly not up there, I just can't pick him leading Liverpool to glory. Deco... Maybe.
I think Bosingwa is a really good player, though he is very ugly and has the mother of all monobrows.
After careful consideration I'm going to plump for Coloccini-I think he will definitely solidify Newcastle's always useless defence and after watching Monday mornings game, he can handle half decent players.

i do agree that his price was a bit much, i still think he will get results later in the season however. but with liverpools budget maybe another player would be more suitable.

Deco for 8 mill looks like good business to me, as does Amr Zaki (on loan at Wigan) looks like he has all the components to be a successful prem striker. Guitterez looks good, and Coloccini is a fantastic defender, just the man Newcastle have needed for ages. Southgate has also done well, bringing in Digard and Emnes, both quality youngsters. Nasri and Modric are also exciting arrivals at Arsenal and Spurs respectively.
Spurs getting Dos Santos for such a cheap amount could also be a fantastic deal (in the long run anyway, might be a season or two before we see the best from him).
Worst bit of business in my mind is Keane to Liverpool for 20 million quid (especially if they end up playing him on the wing... Why they didn't go looking for somebody like Guitterez is beyond me).

I think Gomes in goal for Tottenham and Nasri at Arsenal. Imagine Fabregas and Nasri together - wow.
And on the subject of Arsenal, why do most Gooners on here appear incapable of thinking beyond their team? A Best Summer Signing question gets asked - we get an Arsenal related response and nothing else. We discuss the latest England squad - we get a comment on Walcott's involvement and nothing else. So damned one dimensional it's unreal.

Hang on a minute. So a Chelski fan picks Deco, a Hull fan picks Geovanni, yet Arsenal fans can't pick Nasri, why?

Of course they can, I wouldn't expect them to pick anyone else.
Which is precisely my point. It's all about Arsenal, other teams might as well not even exist. It seems that in general a lot of the fans of other teams are a bit more versatile in their willingness to consider that the football world may consist of more than just their own club.

Pmsl... not quite Buffy, only just saw what he said... I just know I was pissed off when I saw that they'd signed him, and more so when I saw what he cost! He could be lethal for them... that first goal he got wasn't too shabby either

Tho looks like we may now have the bargain of the season at least lol

His first goal should of been saved by a Premiership quality keeper. You watch though, if he goes off the boil for a couple games he'll be dropped from the starting 11 and probably find it hard to get back in.
Nasri on the other hand....

I dont automatically pick Arsenal players. Last year i picked Santa Cruz and Torres as the best signings of the season(at the start of the season).

This thread is descriminatory against Everton.
We dont need new signings. We just get rid of surplus player like Johnson, Gravesen, Carsley, Wessels etc
I'm sure we'll sign someone soon.
Its no longer a problem.

We're basing our decision for best signing of the season on one game, a game in which Nasri played brilliantly and scored on debut in the 4th minute. He didn't cost a great deal (compared with recent attacking midfield purchases of other clubs). Not to mention the fact that a fan of a club is more likely to place emphasis on their own club's signings as it's more likely they've seen the games of their own club versus other games (recalling that ONE league game has been played so far). On top of that, I gave credit to Deco, who I think was a good buy at that rate - even though he's old, he's clearly still got form, as his recent goal demonstrated. And I've been a fan of his for some time.
So settle down.

And as Uber said - if I thought there was a better signing out there, I'd gladly say so.

Did you hear the Everton fans protest against the lack of signings?
An offical fans protest was launched where they were encouraged to take their own boots to the first home game against Blackburn last weekend, to show they were available...
classic scouser humour...

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the Tottenham game as I would have liked to have seen Modric and Geovanni, both of whom look like excellent players, I will look forward to see how they deal with the rough and tumble of the premiership.
I'll disagree with the lad who said Boswinga, I've seen him play for a few times now and although he poses a real threat going forward, I reckon he's a dodgy defender. When Chelsea plays the big boys in the Champions League I'll either be proven right or shown that i don't know my ass from my elbow.
For me Nasri had an excellent game for Arsenal and he looks a typical Wenger buy, fast with great vision and passing. It will be interesting to see how he manages the english winter....
I'm a Liverpool fan so I have to mention Robbie Keane, its early days and our first league game was awful really, but I'm hoping he gels with Torres and Gerard, only time will tell.
As for the Newcastle defender Coloccini, yep he looked good but to be honest Man Utd looked completely toothless without Ronaldo, let see how he goes against some good strikers.
For me though Jonas Guiterrez was superb for Newcastle, not sure what they paid but on that game I reckon he's worth it, calm under pressure, not afraid to have a run and he completely embarrassed several of Man Utd's midfielders.
I'm know he's a roughie, but he's my pick after one round.

another signing i reckon could be a real good move is sundrland getting cisse. always thought he was a good player who has been unlucky with a few injuries. speed to burn.

My God Cisse was frustrating when he was at Liverpool. Yep he's fast, its just every other aspect of his game he needs to work on. I reckon he might fit in better at a lower half team (no offence sunderland but you are), teams will push there back four up and it'll give him more space to run in to.

to be fair he was played out of position a bit, pushed onto the wing where he would blaze up the sideline only to cut in and shoot rather than ever passing or crossing ha. was a starting french striker before he broke his leg (twice) so a really top class player.

well given how pissed off I am that Barca let chel$ki take Deco that move is the one that catches my eye the most. Nasri will get much more game time then Deco and will probably show his worth a bit more.
Deco isn't too old at the mo anyway, bring on a return to Porto!
