Everton sign Steve Walsh from Leicester City, the scout who signed key players such as Mahrez, Kante and Vardy on the way to their winning season. Big blow for Leicester; they'll definitely struggle without Kante and Steve Walsh. Who knows if they'll sign any talents now.

That'd be a decent signing for Stoke.

They have quite a good side on paper, with Arnautovic, Bojan, Shaqiri and the likes.

Prem definitely has big money now, right the way down the league.

Boro have signed Valdes and Negredo! Wow.

Yeah..Im a little concerned that 7 new players coming in is too much..especially given the tight defence from last year.  All settling in at Marbella currently.

We play Stoke in opening game at home.

Hull apparently only have 14 senior players contracted and 8 of them are currently injured

Good. Hopefully they go straight back down.

Three for me, and two for them.

Wijnaldum is apparently en-route to the US to have a medical there and then join up with LFC on their overseas tour.

25m seems like a lot BUT looking at the market so far this season, nothing surprises me right now.

LFC will then seem to have about a million #10s and limited resourced in DM

You're just a mid-table Arsenal now.

How are your transfers going? Any strikers yet?

Strikers are pretty hard to come by at the quality we're looking for. But sounds like club are working at it.

To be fair we have made the most expensive signing in England in this window thus far (Xhaka), so we've hardly been mucking about.

Our squad doesn't need nearly as many signings as most other clubs either, it's pretty much complete, just need that striker cherry on top... desperately...

As an aside I really rate Wijnaldum, and looking at the prices floating around, I think 25m is pretty good business.

Rooney and co will suffer with the clamp down on dissent. It should last at least 30 minutes.

Another intelligent comment from the fool. EPL games  597, goals scored 263. England games 115 and goals scored 53.

Alex Manninger to Liverpool on a one year deal! Didn't realise he was still playing. He was our number 2 when I first started following Arsenal. Always remember his FA Cup heroics in 97-98.

I hope not. Poaching off smaller clubs in the same league sucks.

Money means nothing when a lot of PL clubs have no idea how to spend it. Villa got money for Benteke and Delph but that means fudge all now because of their mismanagement of that money.

It does suck foal.

Unfortunately my love of arsenal outweighs that though, and I am absolutely salivating at the thought of Sanchez, Ozil and Mahrez playing as an attacking three!

Looks like Pogba is gone from Juve or else they couldn't afford Higuain. Question is, is he going to Manchester or Madrid?

Hasn't been much chat about Madrid recently. Would be a little surprised if he went there. Also saw some chat about United wanting Bonucci but seems like BS to me.

There's actually been a bunch of reports in the last 24 hours saying RM are back in the hunt. One tabloid even saying Zidane and Pogba spoke on the phone

Probably just his agent planting BS stories in the press to jack up the price ;)

Lets hope he goes to RM as for that sort of money you could get a couple of players that are just as good.

I like Pogba, but not at the Bale/Ronaldo level transfer fees talked about.

I really hope the pressure/hyper/$ values doesn't get to him and he lives up to his full potential.

Diddums tbh. How many times have our stars gone to rivals in the last 10 years? About time we got the player of the season from the champions if it happens. Suspect it's yet another agent using us as a bargaining tool in contract negotiations though.

I suspect that Pogba's value might be partly commercial rather than solely based on his footballing contribution. He's got a flash haircut and an awesome YouTube highlights reel, I bet he'd sell a lot of shirts and be worth a lot of money to sponsors. He doesn't seem like a Jose type of player though. Even in that French midfield both Kante and Matuidi seem more like what he likes - massive work rates, solid without being fancy. Especially as Utd already have more creativity and directness further forward on the pitch.

Pretty interesting article regarding transfer fees

Being ex UNICEF I agree with his sentiment.

However it is possible to assign a value to footballers when the results your football team achieves directly impacts your revenue from winnings, and your revenue from commercial partnerships.

Football is a business, and yes the money in it is insane, but while we're all buying the merchandise, going to the games, and arguing on forums about it I don't see this changing any time soon.

The reality is that the problem is broader than football, than other sports codes and heck even the geo-political landscape we live in.

I could go on about this for days but it's a much better discussion over a pint in a pub than writing up a full philosophical dissertation only to have Smith reply with "TL;DR".
