Point I was trying to make is that Sanchez is a bargain at that sort of price when you stack it up against other transfers

Agree, but that's just how it is with English players it seems, their price will always be too inflated.

Too true

Personally I think Shaw looks very very good and will turn out to be an excellent player for ManU, but my eyes still water at 30mil for someone so young and relatively unproven.

This may be controversial but...

If an English player works out, then the value is better. $25m for Lallana, he turns into a top player and then stays with Liverpool long terms 5 years+ and they rarely go offshore (compared to players from other nations).

With overseas players, you get a great player who has no affinity to the country he is playing in, gets itchy feet or struggles with the culture after a few years and then says "I want out".

I would say that more English players see out their contracts when playing in the BPL than foreign players do (referring to requests for transfer NOT being released or put up for transfer)

"...sure beats doin' stuff."

But if the english player is a flop you lose out BIG time. So bigger risk there.

See: Carroll, A.

And if the overseas player gets itchy feet and leaves, re-sale value is often high.

See: Suarez, L.

Best deal?

Yes.

I see Rodriguez's name now mentioned as a possible Man Utd signing. Makes that Shaw money seem crazy when it suggests Rodriguez is valued around 15m, he was one of (if not the) form LBs in Europe last season and also in the WC.

Someone is upset that Liverpool missed out on a world class player.

Three for me, and two for them.

Absolutely.

But he cost less in the first place... so lower risk

I agree. He makes the Arsenal a whole lot better in attack but at Liverpool he would've made them just a little bit better in attack. At mid table clubs like United (Newcastle or Manchester) he would have made them a whole lot better though.

How old is Leggy?  Is he 12 or 72?

So who have you lined up to replace your 30 goal a season bitey racist?. Opportunity's to sign players like Sanchez don't come around often. The pool of world class strikers available for transfer is drying up. We nabbed Sanchez, Atletico got Manduzic, Benzema signed a contract extension at Madrid. Most other top strikers are stable and not looking for a move.

In transfer news (again, I'm just trawling websites and Twitter, don't shoot the messenger!)

  • Lovren looks set for LFC move and they seem to have shifted their focus from Bony onto Loic Remy (but may go for both) who they can pick up for about 8m. Sunderland have agreed to pay us 14m for Borini, just down to him working out terms. Isco also on the radar apparently and also Jame Milner who wants off the Man City bench (he was brilliant in the City game vs us!). They are also after Michael Vorm with no real #2 keeper with Reina still likely to move. We are still DESPERATE for a Left Back.
  • Balotelli looks set to join Arsenal, they will have a very strong team this season, and if they go trophy-less, you’d think it was Wengers last (but then, he did survive 8 years without a cup). They have also been linked with Iker Casillas.
  • Carroll is wanted back at Newcastle
  • Wayne Rooney to move to PSG is a swap deal for Cavani. Yaya Toure has been offered a move to United, but turned it down to stay at City.
  • In amazing news, Leo Bertos has been signed on a 2 year deal in the I-League for East Bengal…as their marquee player. How bad does a team need to be to have Bertos as a marquee player?!?!

Looks like Torres might be heading back to Atletico Madrid. Would be a good move for him after the disaster of moving to London.

Liverpool Related

  • Lovren unveiled by the club
  • Origi will be done this week
  • Agger likely to make a 15m move to Barca
  • LFC will listen to offers for Mingolet who hasn't stepped up as expected
  • Remy deal has fallen over due to a failed medical. LFC will re-ignite interest in Huntelaar and Bony

Just clicked that Southampton have now made approx 90million pounds from transfers in this window, so as much as Liverpool really.

Interested to see who they sign before the window shuts.

They have bought one guy for 10mil so far, and still may sell Schneiderlin for big bucks yet.

It's bizarre to see so many go out and so few come in. They must have a strategy and plan up their sleeve but the later they leave it, the more the prices inflate as the options lessen. Saints fans must be tearing their hair out, and lots are having a go at LFC fans on Twitter like it's our fault they decided to sell! Haha.

They still have a number of good players from last season, as well as the best youth academy in the country.  They will go and buy a few guys from the dutch league (that Koeman knows very well) as well as maybe 1 big (£15m-ish) signing meaning that their net spend for the summer will be about £50m profit. What they are gambling on is that a number of teams in the league are significantly worse than them (Burnely, WBA, Swansea, West Ham, Palace, QPR, Man Utd, Sunderland, etc).

In terms of transfers so far, the team I would be most worried about is Sunderland - apparently they have let 12 players leave so far, and only signed 3 guys on a free (including a reserve goalkeeper), and Patrick Van Aanholt from Chelsea. They only stayed up last season because of a miraculous run in the last couple of months of the season, plus Poyet (who I think is a good manager) always seems to be at loggerheads with the board, and could easily be out of the door pretty soon.  All adds up to trouble.

Liverpool are back in for Konoplyanka (from Macca himself at Macca Rumours) and are set to make new moves for Moreno and Manquillo.

Apparently Sevilla are desperate for the Moreno money to spend on a replacement for Rakitic so willing to take less than the 20m to get the funds in the bank. The LFC 16m offer is still on the table.

Yeah, me too. He's generally pretty good as are the agents comments in the mail rumours page. He made a comment that he only posts things the player believe are happening, i.e. when Salah and Willian didn't sign last year, they were all very surpirsed as they assumed it was done

So Lampard is going on loan to Man City from New York...

New way of getting round FFP regulations... sign players for your other clubs and loan 'em back!

Yep, pretty screwed. Not even taking into account Lampard is Chelsea, brand-wise. Imagine if that happened with Henry? I'd be livid.

FFP is a bit of a joke really. Man City should actually be able to spend however much they want. They got lucky with an owner with a lot of liquid cash so why shouldn't they benefit?

Man City  has to show it doesn't make a loss, but when you have an owner who will just replace any loss with his own cash, what's the problem?

What I'd like to see is that owners are duty bound to provide funding for grassroots football England wide, i.e. goes into one central fund to be spread across England and Wales. If an owner spends $200m on his club, he also needs to contribute a 2% donation of 4m.

If team spends just 10m per annum, they have to contribute just 400k etc.

Because if that owner gets bored of their plaything and pulls out then you have a Portsmouth situation where the club is basically screwed and the FA has to try and bail them out.

No club should spend beyond their means.

But surely if an owner pulls out, the only way they can do this is by selling the club to someone who would need to show to financiers and the PL big-wigs that they can maintain the club at its current level of spending?
