only following live text but heard theo was one on one at the end and should of squared it, went for the nutmeg instead and saved... gutted...

after losing to them at home, and them having beaten dortmund recently, i am happy with a point over there, bit gutted having led 2-0 though.

Group is tight, need results in the last two now to ensure progress. Looking at the other groups finishing 2nd is not as much of an issue as it has been in previous seasons. But if we do manage that we'll likely draw barca given our luck in the draw the last couple of seasons!

to be fair on theo the keeper was charging and ball didnt sit up very well and also had defenders on

got to win the last two games to lead the pack, and hope that Schalk drop one, either that we target second and end up with Barca.

sounds like we're heading down the adidas path from what I've read, will be interested to see how our shirts come out with their style, don't think I've seen an adidas top with different sleeves before

probably helps that we have a few germans nowadays too

surprised we've never been le-coq-sportif LOL

Can't wait for the North London Derby on Sat. Hopefully it's more like last season's than the season before...

Not sure about adidas kits...Nike have been making significantly better looking kits for the past few years. Mind you, our latest home and away are pretty ordinary.

Sagna Ox and Theo facing late fitness tests, Szczesny should be good, apparently Gibbs has a chance too, I can't see more than 2-3 playing.

Good news on Spurs injury front too, Dembele out, Walker, Lennon, Defoe in doubt.

Permalink Permalink

We've been missing Gibbs so much, would be a real boost if he made it but I think he'll be on the bench at best. Bale might fancy himself against Vermaelen...

Szcz back though, yay. Mannone is not a second-choice keeper. Or third. Or fourth.

 fast passing and running

some players looked highly committed

Giroud and Carzola have been excellent signings, nice to see MeatSack get a goal too.

10min burst from the OX was high class.

could have been 8.

Great performance today. Thought Walcott was immense, Giroud as well. That midfield three has the ability to do special things for us. In saying all of that, for the time it was 11 v 11 we looked poor but you can only beat what's in front of you and we did that quite nicely.

giroud looks the goods, he was immense against fulham too which was overlooked somewhat when we didnt win the game. 7 goals in his last 10 games now.

Couldn't believe it last week when that f*ckwit tony gale spent most of the game talking about how poor a signing giroud is... while he was tearing it up for 90 minutes right in front of him...

Big win last night, here's hoping we carry on a bit of form that last years result brought us.

Made a massive difference having Walcott and Wilshere in their for me - Cazorla was different gravy.

Epic match, Cazorla ran the show, Giroud was great, Podolski put in a shift and Theo must be given a new contract.

Adebayor, what's the score? was pretty special too.

I'm getting a bit concerned about the Theo situation. I don't think its about the money. I think he genuinely wants to play as a central striker and maybe Arsene can't commit to promising that. Would hate to see him go. Liverpool have been rumoured to be interested and Theo supported them as a kid.

Theo is as good as gone.

No champs league, no thread, no nothing for them

just the way it should be

now if we can just get back to being a regular title challenger the world will be righted again...

on the theo thing, it doesn't look good does it. I do wonder though, wenger has always said he sees him as a striker eventually (quoted as saying something like that as recently as a month ago), so is it just a case of theo being impatient?

Obviously it's either that or money... and he claims it's not money

Yeah I'd be surprised if Theo stays, which saddens me. I think we should definitely offer him the extra £10k per week or whatever it is he is after.

If he does leave though I would be VERY surprised to see him go to Lolverpool.

He supported them as a young whippersnapper apparently, but who really knows. I'd be stoked if he stayed but it's getting hard not to be cynical.

A 'boyhood club' that is consistently mid-table, with no proper European prospects in the next decade. Can't see it myself.

Massive backwards step, unless he was planning on playing for them for a few seasons up front to make himself into a star and moving elsewhere.
As for the Sp*ds result, bloody amping after it still. Nothing as satisfying as that kind of victory.
Just a thought, if we were after another striker Steven Fletcher? The mans a beast.

He is, and he'll continue to get better. But him and Fletcher battling for position would be great. Did you see Fletcher's goal on the weekend? Classic stuff.

no thanks to fletcher, sunderland probably suits his level, he's doing well there

promising stuff floating around about theo this morn, reckon he might re-sign yet

also Thierry been training with us again, arsene not ruling out another visit, YES PLEASE

even if he didnt play he'd be worth gold in the dressing room to get these lads fired up

gervinho and gibbs back in the squad for montpellier tomorrow, AWESOME news, we need gibbs.

Does wenger have the balls to drop Verm? He's 3rd in our CB pecking order for me right now... perhaps Arteta should've been made captain?

Permalink Permalink
over 13 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

I hope Thweo stays, his best starting pos in out wide but he certainly provides an option in the central role if we brinl oxade-chamberlain on to replace Giroud/Podolski.

Verm needs a break - however you spin it his form is not up to scracth right now, benching him maybe the kick he needs to correct it.

Can't wait to see Thierry back on the park for us, especially with Gervinho off the the African Nations Cup.

I'm unsure if Vermaelen should have ever been made captain, when Kosc and Per are arguably better, it makes it incredibly hard to drop him. And obviously now we can't swap the captaincy, that'd ruin his form for good. Think we have to keep playing him most games and hope he improves.

Permalink Permalink

If Vermaelen is captain then surely he can do what's best for the team and rest for a bit. He is well off the pace.

Big game(s) tonight. Defeat Marseilles (and Schalke win) and we're through to the knock-out stage for the 13th consecutive year. Otherwise it will all come down to Olympiacos away and we know what can happen there.

a win yes please. Team still needs more Arshavin

and you will all be pleased to know Obafemi Matins is in rampant goalscoring mood for Levante.

2-0 and we're through. Would be nice to win the group. How good was Podolski's goal? Absolute class!!

poldi, he scores when he wants

good to see jack get a goal, love to see him start contributing on the scoresheet - cesc was similar, played really well but little goal return in his first cupla seasons, then he matured a bit and the composure in front of goal followed, multiple seasons with double figures after that if I remember correctly

only seen the goal highlights, will watch the game tonight, but I'm reading that Giroud had a very good game - 2 more assists. He's exactly the striker we needed, seems to have the full package - good with it on the deck, exceptional in the air, scores goals, provides assists, and he often heads it out when we're defending set pieces I've noticed as well

pleased to see Jack get on the score sheet, maybe this will be the big turning point for him and he can start contributing more in the EPL.
