I am glad to see a return to inconsistency. Predicting our hopes to be swelled by an outstanding performance against a complacent Man City, then a toothless effort against Wigan.
Pretty much on target.
Is there really no alternative to Perch?
Simpson should be in next week.
Forget the Carling Cup. Forget the meat dress. This year's Halloween theme is Black Cats and Magpies.
I saw the replay on Sky last night. Toon was bossing the hammers for the best part of the game.
This derby match will be interesting. I think the Mackems will be the stronger team but at least the Toon are playing at fortress SportsDirect.com @ SJP...

The difference in work rate between Carroll and Chamakh was remarkable. I know it's cliche but that old adage "you get out what you put in" was so evident here. Carroll put plenty in and got a goal that won his team three points out of it. Chamakh put in nothing and got nothing out of it in return.
It's official de Jong is smegma of the Roy Keane level.
According to Roberto Mancini, "it was a normal tackle".
Playing Wigan tomorrow at SJP, featuring the return of Charles Insomnia.
Really need a win to jump out of the danger zone.
Howay the Lads!

2-1 to us. Heard it here first.
soccernet pros and cons of relegation prospects:
Newcastle (15th)
Reasons to be positive: The ability of Andy Carroll to intimidate defenders and score; the signs that Cheik Tiote and Joey Barton are a central-midfield partnership of real promise; the common-sense management of Chris Hughton, which should prevent a reversion to melodrama on Tyneside; a resilience on the road that wasn't apparent last time they were in the Premier League.
Reasons to be negative: They have suffered two home defeats already and, in Blackpool and Stoke, they came to potential relegation rivals; the loss of Hatem Ben Arfa, their most skilful player, for the season; the loss of Steve Harper, their only experienced goalkeeper, for three months; a shortage of pace in most sections of the team; the signs James Perch is out of his depth in the top flight; a need for goalscorers apart from Carroll.

Our season starts on the 23rd.
Unlike Andy Carroll.

Jonas!
More seriously...
Danny Simpson has been playing for the Reserves. He should be match fit soon.
Taylor will be back to full training shortly.
Id even give Ryan Taylor a go before Perch. He has been woeful. Carroll arrested again overnight. That means he has two seperate assualt charges before the courts. Not good.
Someone needs to take him quietly aside and have a wee chat before he affects his career.
Maybe Joey Barton?
(who actually seems to have come right - after being given many chances - and a stint in HM Porridge)

I like r.Taylor. Especially his set pieces.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING ANDY!!

Andy is being 21. I was an idiot at that age, too, without the added liability of being a professional footballer.
He's also living with the Nolans. I wonder if he calls Kev, "Mr. N." when they're at home.
Got the result over West Ham. (I probably wasn't alone in predicting that! )
Forget the Carling Cup. Forget the meat dress. This year's Halloween theme is Black Cats and Magpies.
I'm not talking about the Carling Cup.
But it does warm my heart to see that Joey Barton gets more awesome every week.
Yep It's VERY good to see Barton offering to help out young Andy.
I was very quick to bag him last season but he does seem to have put his ladishness behind him.

I half-watched the Hammers match live while getting ready for work, but it didn't look conclusive to me. Possession isn't a good cue, as they play very direct. Our high line - the pantalon rouge of Newcastle United - will always allow other teams a chance. The partnership of Jonas and Enrique appeared to be very important.
Will re-watch and comment further.
To be honest, we dominated. Barton and tiote are class in midfield, Enrique and Jonas work great together. We lack a quick stiker for Carroll if we play 4 4 2..and a right winger
I was out of town so had sky in the hotel (so can't go back and re-look). Tiote did look good - nice signing.

Nice quote from Black Cat Cattermole on soccernet:
"Cattermole knows that as Sunderland captain, and a former Middlesbrough player, he is likely to be greeted with a hostile reaction at St James' Park. But he believes Steve Bruce and ex-Toon defender Titus Bramble will get a worse reaction than him.
Junior822010-10-30 12:32:41
"I always manage to block hostile atmospheres out," he said. "Once the whistle starts I just concentrate on the game and our opponents. I don't really think about the crowd.
"Their fans have got a few to choose from apart from me, haven't they? Steve Bruce is a Geordie fella managing Sunderland, so he'll get some stick. And obviously Titus is going to get the worst."
Fixed.
Seriously, though: Hughton's comments to the Chronicle - roughly, "We'll try our hardest!" - indicate that he's trying to ease pressure on the squad. There's a tonne of other comments from players and ex-players - the only other article really worth reading is Joey Barton's. Joey reckons that playing at home has been difficult this year and is calling on the home crowd to take it easy on derby day. That's unlikely to be a personal request, but rather one for the team as a whole.
wow 5-1 over the mackems
Oh. my. golly. gosh!
Never expected that result.
A shame I didn't watch it. Curse this thing called work and deadlines.
Yes exams prevented me.
Waiting for a full replay. It will be a treat.

He he. Nice account here
Cattermole subbed off, Bramble sent off, Steve Bruce's worst defeat.
Hughton should get the keys to the brewery now.

Great result. Allowed me to watch the Phoenix without reaching for the razor. The Chronicle has an interactive map to show where you watched the derby. NZ needs a few more flags, eh?
Looking forward to Arsenal. Kev has warned the lads that, "There are no easy games in this league," to ensure that they don't get complacent at Emirates. The second half of Lee Ryder's interview with Joey Barton is well worth reading.
Howay the Toon!
YAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great game. Colo and Williamson were faultless in defence, tiote held the ball up and won every 50/50 and barton was composed as ever. And big Andy was awesome. Man of match for me. Worked his ass off up front and in defence too.
Great result lads!!!

5 wins in a row now for Rovers v Newcastle
Barton up to his usual tricks, punching MGP. What a stand up guy.
3 match suspension, but he has manned up and accepted it without excuses.
This is a much more mature and considered Barton. I won't be one to knock him this time as I have in the past.

Nah, we were mediocre and only deserved a draw. It was just poor to terrible play from almost everyone in an Arsenal shirt that made it a match-winning performance. Fabregas' passing was so poor I thought he was trying to get released from his contract.

On watching the video, Pedersen looks to be chewing the scenery.
Or Joey Barton is the strongest man in the world.
I'm prepared to go either way.

pretty stupid from barton, thought he had grown up now and was mature. guess not.
I'm prepared to go either way.
Oh.
