I wouldn't bet on it.  Hughton was never given a long term deal, and Pardew was being lined up for some time before he was brought in.  (Sauce, though as much has been stated in a number of places.)

I actually roused myself in the middle of the night to watch the match, only to find my 'net connection was out of action.

However, I did find a very good match summary.  The .co.uk version is almost as awesome.

OK.  Let's try to stay positive.  Or at least stable, for once.

Poor man! Hopefully he can rebuild his life.

Surprised he didn't tell the reporter that he was mentioned in a Lindisfarne classic.

I'm pretty sure that you linked to a similar article earlier Stripes but here's a recent one about Chatty Man's dad.

Spurs due to visit St. James.  That special time of year when certain entities have their divided loyalties questioned.  On a related note, .co.uk has run a little article on the team's suspicious behaviour.

The Guardian thinks this will be close.  I should add that it's one for the neutral.

A certain entity in another thread wrote:
Spurs have the players to do the job, but struggle at SJP.

Too hard to call but I'd almost put money on the Toon to win by 2 goals.

Still - I think if Adebayor, Parker, Modric, Sandro, BAE, Ledley and Friedel start then 1 or 3 pts will be going back to N17. (Edit: and Bale of course!)

I'm just glad it is early on in the season so that a loss either way isn't a big deal.

It will be a great match up and unlike the first game of the season at SJP or the last game at WHL, I'm sure both sides will lift their games against a better quality opposition.

Just seen that Adebayor is marginal for the match. Presumably Pav and Defoe resume their prolific partnership then. *sarcarstic emoticon*

The Guardian is correct. Looking at the squad line ups I'm leaning more to a Tyneside triumph and a London loss.

Objectively:  Both managers are sound, if not brilliant, tacticians and able leaders of men.  Spurs have a better squad (particularly in attack), but more injuries (leaving the home side looking much stronger in defence).  St. James is a bit lacking in voice these days, so it's unlikely to play a major part.  It probably comes down to the marginal fitness of players.

A major concern for Spurs will be the center of the pitch.  Modric isn't exactly known for his defensive work, which could leave Parker outnumbered.  Their key man is, no doubt, Bale, and Simpson may need to find a new personal best to contain him.

Newcastle's spine looks very strong - up to the neck, at least.  A lot depends on the match fitness of Ba and Tiote, though they did look good before the international break.  Ben Arfa should play some role, even if he doesn't start, which could be a match changer.  For all that, I think the main man is still Tim Krul.  When he's on form (and he's consistent), the Dutchman can simply deny the run of play.

But what do I feel?  3-0.  Two from Ba, and a late goal from Taylor to put the nails in the coffin.

Krul and his back four should be hard to beat. Especially if there is Defoe and VDV upfront for Spurs.

A worry for Spurs will be if King is not starting (if he doesn't start he probably won't be on the bench either).

I think Parker has been an excellent acquisition for Spurs so he will be able to cope. Modric is needed to make chances for the lazy VDV.

It is Spurs good luck that HBA probably won't be starting. I think they will ride that for all it's worth.

3-1 to the Toon. But I'd be happy with a 1-1 draw!

Magnificent finish from Shola to secure the point.

"Cheik Tiot, an absolute animal on the pitch, is like a little girl at paintballing. He looks like he could run through a brick wall, but hit him with these little pellets of paint and it's like he's been shot. All I could hear was Tiot screaming."

Interesting to see his high praise of the Old Arsenal.

"I speak to Graham a lot," Taylor says. "He ain't as funny as his son [the comedian Alan Carr]. Graham cracks a few jokes, but they're a bit old. But he has a huge knowledge of football."

Way too much man-love going throughout that article but still a good read.  I think if anyone is truly honest the Old Arse (90s-early 2000s) were good to watch.

Still, the current crop provides much more fun!  Just scraping past the Mackems at the Library.  A draw would have made my weekend perfect.

Joey Barton: "I've actually just started crying listening to @SteveRotheramMP close. I tried to hold it together, it's been an emotional day."  Not often I applaud this man, but fair play.

Edit: fk, only just remembered he plays for QPR now, aha...

Eh, that's alright.  We were talking about Gazza earlier - Joey at least played a game for us this season.

Speaking of "characters", the Maiga deal appears to be going through.

Dunno if anyone else read Louise Taylor's absolutely outrageous match report in the Guardian.  Just some excerpts:

"no one should begrudge Newcastle United's manager or his over-achieving players their place in the sun."

"Very much an unsung hero of Newcastle's startling renaissance, Ryan Taylor has enjoyed a few highs this season"

"some splendid organisational discipline and tight defending on the part of the Premier League's meanest backline"

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?
