Impressive - was Super mac (Malcom MacDonald) playing then.
This was just around when I was forming a bond with the Toon. My White Hart Lane affair had started in 1973.

He was before that fateful transfer to the Gooners. Alan Gowling was playing for them and they lost the League Cup final 2-1 to Man City with Dennis Tuearts brilliant overhead kick winning it. Link

Watch out for Martin Rowlands, Akos Buzsacky, Jay Simpson and Ben Watson. We're up to 8th now. And we have a decent away record at the mo.Lonegunmen2009-09-28 23:37:31

Oh Martin Rowlands, remember him from football manager, quite handy. Jay simpsons a good signing from arsenal right? I imagine on loan?

Should be a good match then. Might be a test for NUFC after ipswichs pathetic defense. Roy Keanes managerial abilities must be under question again. Hopefully 3 more points though for us. Haha.

Well, I'd not go into this too complacent. My QPR subbuteo team used to be quite handy...

Simpson is on loan but I heard for 2.3 mill we can have him and he has decided he's enjoying first team football.  Despite relegation and losing most of the overpaid non performers, Newcastles form has been very impressive. I'm hoping for a result but certainly not expecting it. We do need the points though.

Beg to differ LG, it's BECAUSE we were relegated and have ditched the overpaid prima donnas that form has improved.

Hughton has to take a lot of credit but I think the sheer ignomy and the financial squeeze that Cashley is under has made him see that his admin of the club needs to support the gaffer, not undermine him.

Fizzy pop leagues has a lot more games than EPL and while I'm happy (actually reet glad like man) that the Toon are riding high - I want to see them winning for as long as possible. We've got a small squad so sooner or later we'll be stretched too thin with injuries and will be forced to play lots of young'uns in a starting XI. We found out how much depth we don't have in the first round of the Carling Cup.

Anyway good luck to your lads, but Carroll, Ranger and Nolan to score and take three points.

What is happening regarding Shearer &  the heart attack man who thinks he's still manager?

I think Kinnear is goneski. IF (big if mind you) Moat can take ownership (depends on how big a settlement Keegan gets from cashley) - then Shearer is tipped to take over as manager.

But Hughton is most likely in line to be Manager of the Month again and he certainly deserves to stay I think (if he wants to) because he has achieved what Shearer and goodness knows how many other gaffers have tried to to and failed with a lot more money and talent available.

Shearer is pretty special to me but unless he clicks instantly with the team why would you want to change something that is currently working?

Yes the manager wont be sorted until the sale of the club goes through which is being delayed further now due to the Keegan compensation claim.

Colocinni and R Taylor are out injured from tomorrows match.

West Brom lost again this morning so if we are able to beat QPR tomorrow, we will go 5 points clear.

It's interesting - this has to be one of the most uninspiring Newcastle squads of all time on paper and yet they are doing the business.I agree that the test will come when the squad depth is tested.
My first love (Come On You Rs!!!!)to beat my second (Ha'way The Lads!!).

Well as the FIFA 09 commentary says - "it's not won on paper, it's won on that green thing in front of us" (or something like that)

1-1 harewood to the rescue.
Sounds like NUFC didn't show up in the first half hour, and Rowlands missed a great chance to go 2 up.  But NUFC will be disappointed not to win as they had a number of chances.
Ohwell 1 point moves us 3 points clear at the top.

With Flav worried about his own problems, Magelton has been left alone to worry about the teams and has acted accordingly and the players have responded. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Yes.  Everyone bar Cashley and midget Wise knew that - now the courts have agreed and award KK 2 million quid.

Good article on Hughton:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=685094&sec=england&root=england&cc=3436&cc=3436

Seems like a very nice guy - no ego problems and Manager of the Month twice in a row.

Not bad for a fill-in.

I thought Spurs had already played Manchester United?

I have here a fine Newcastle shirt which I am going to get printed
Martins 9 on the back
and hang in the pool room
well music room but it serves the same purpose

Maybe you should have 21 or 28 on the back.

Surprised you'd have a toon shirt (so you're actually semi-decent!) - not enough t*ssp*t red in it.

one of Arsenal's best ever  strikers came from Newcastle
so it is in some ways a feeder club
they should have signed Obafemi
it would have been a goal fest

Oba was the man. Pity about the injuries and the time he arrived at the toon. Imagine him and big Al up front.

Anyone remember obas strike against tottenham? Pure class.
