But how relevant is the km travelled by each player when they get subbed?

Maybe another useful stat could be how many step overs were attempted.

ive often wondered the wisdom of putting that, and only that stat when a player is subbed.

but yes the espn picture is truly dreadful, but it's a picture nonetheless

ubergunner explained espn's issues once

something about the picture type being specifically for american television, and that it is run through some sort of conversion system to make it compatible for the ESPN Pacific Rim channel (what we get) - this is what causes the sh*te picture. In the US it's apparently perfect.

HOWEVER that doesn't explain the sh*t commentators, sh*t comments man, sh*t stats, sh*t decisions on what to show (shakhtar v roma over arse v barca for the ESPN Pacific Rim feed? honestly), sh*t everything basically.

When i was streaming on wednesday i stumbled across the odd UK feed and they were top quality

I'm fairly certain it's because Nth America use NTSC tvs whereas we have PAL tvs and they operate on different refresh rates (60hz for NTSC compared with 50hz for PAL I think) and they have to convert the 60hz to run on 50hz screens so that's why fast moving objects, like the ball when it's shot/given a firm pass tends to blur out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC#Lines_and_refresh_rate this seems to be saying the same as me, so hopefully that means I have my facts right...

According to a tweet from Andrew Mulligan we are going to be getting ESPN HD from 1 June.
Shame the champions league final is on 28 May.

If you have a satelitte box you can pick up the champions league on SBS Australia with a far better picture than ESPN. They sometimes play different games too.

Champion's League Q/F draw tonight- exciting times for us spurs! I think realistically most team will be wanting us or Schalke (or Shaktar, but I don't think the Ukraine is too accomodating at this time of year!!). Schalke would probably be our easiest draw on paper, but may not be the best one for us - we tend to up our game against bigger clubs (no disrespect to Schalke) so may fare better against one of those. That said, tin hats at the ready if we draw Barcelona...

I agree, but if you kept showing only the big clubs playing then others would be complaining about that.
One of the pluses in Oz is that whatever ESPN is showing, SBS shows the other game. So the Arsenal game was live. Perhaps you guys should get on to TV3?

Apr 5      Real Madrid (Santiago Bernabu)      UCL
Apr 9      Stoke City     (WHL)
Apr 13      Real Madrid     (WHL) UCL
Apr 17      Postponed     Manchester City     (Titty of Manchester Stadium)
Apr 20      Wenger Boys     (WHL)
Apr 23      West Bromwich Albion (WHL)
Apr 30      Chelsea     (Prawn cocktail stadium)
May 7      Blackpool (WHL)

Still have a small chance of top 4 - really depends on how much City and Chelski slump.  I personally think that Chelski have a better run in than us and think we will hold on for 5th beating off the red scousers.

Spooky on DML sums it up though: 7 pts from the last 5 games!

Yep, agreed I think it's between us & ManC for 4th, though we'll have to buck our ideas up and go on another epic run like last season to get it!! The good (and bad!) thing is that we still have to play most teams around us - ManC away will be especially big if we can win our easy game in hand against that lot down the road...

That's right, loss to Blackpool and draws with Wolves and West Ham, of which Wolves and West Ham have spent most of the season in the bottom 3 and Blackpool are only 1 point off it now.

Quite concerned with next season if we don't make the top 4, VDV and Modric will almost certainly leave and we won't be able to get that striker we've been after for some time.

I heard someone on the Chappers Podcast this week, saying if you can't make the Top 4, you;re better off finishing 8th, then you don't have the hassle of the Europa League, in which you play around 18 games if you make the final and play in all kinds of small, backwater countries in Europe.

Won't be a problem - we didn't go too well in the last Europa a couple of seasons ago.

A team was fined last year - without researching i think it was wolves? 10 changes for a game against manU or something

Wolves were fined last year for making a bunch of changes for a midweek game against United.

Blackpool did the same this year, with Ian Holloway saying if they fined him he would quit. They did fine him, and he offered his resignation. The chairman of Blackpool turned it down though.

Not wrong though, the Europa League must be a right pain in the arse to play in.

Europa league is still European football though, if your a team hoping to break into the champions league like spurs and man city then surely playing in the Europa league is ideal preparation. getting the  squad used to mid week games and traveling around Europe and what not. And at the end of the day its still a trophy and no team would turn their nose up at that.  Downey262011-03-25 09:31:35

Yeah mate but if you are in Spurs position at the moment, pushing hard for an ECL spot, with a squad which I'm sure Harry would admit is not quite at the level of the other top teams in England, you want to be focussing everything on getting that top 4 place.

And if instead you are having to go and focus on playing some sh*tty little team in Moldova or Macedonia or something mid week, before a big EPL match, I can see how that would be a giant pain in the arse.

Sure once you get to the quarters or semis you could take it seriously and try and win it, but with all the faffing about and so many matches before you get there, I'm not sure it's completely worth it.

Consistency is what we lack.

In terms of top 4, only ManU is our bogey team.  All the others (+ Perennial Strugglers Liverpool) are ones we can beat on the day.

Big problem this season is that we don't turn up for the games against the struggling teams.

I would be happy with Europa if we didn't make UCL next season. Actually, scratch that - we're going to win UCL this season so it doesn't matter.

though if you have a squad you  want to compete in the champions league you should be able to rotate and rest and easily account for most teams until you reach the quarters.

but yes i see what you mean
