when does Pavlyuchenko start playing??
03 Sep 22:30 · edited 09 Sep 05:17
I'm sure he's available for the next game, which is the weekend after this one (international games this weekend). We're home to Villa on Tuesday morning 16th...will be on Sky no doubt.

I return from the wops and we get a point against Chelski and sell a player for 30million plus. Clearly the first of this two is the more surprising although I wonder if the slightly inflated figure for Berbatoff left both clubs happy to avoid further litigation?
04 Sep 02:59 · edited 09 Sep 05:17
I think the inflated figure has more to do with Citeh's late bid than anything else.

Three for me, and two for them.

Not super happy about picking up Frazier Campbell for a season's loan. I mean what happens if he has a blinder, he then goes back to Man Yoo with a season's experience under his belt.

Can see why we let Thomas Peckhart go to Saints for a season long loan, i'd rather he played and gained experience than develop Man Yoo youth...

I'm assuming an " 't" dropped off that one. Peckhart banged in the goals for the reserves...what of Campbell? I know nothing of him. HarryHotspur2008-09-04 21:57:29

Campbell went on loan to Hull last season and by all accounts had a blinding season as they gained promotion (they put in a 7m pound bid for him during the recent transfer window to try and secure him permantly), he's 20 yrs old..

Is he a poacher a la Bent or someone who can act as a foil to Bent?
04 Sep 11:17 · edited 09 Sep 05:17
I don't know to be honest, i don;t know that he;ll get too much game time, he will be the 3rd choice striker at best, so may get the odd cameo appearance and perhaps a full game in the Carling Cup etc...

Although in saying that now that teams are allowed 7 on the bench he might find himself on the bench than he might of previously. And if we're in the sh*t and need attacking players he may get on...

It really depends on what formation Ramos wants to play. He tends to like the 4-5-1 (or more specifically 4-2-3-1) which has seen Bent as the lone striker so far, but i guess they have bought Pavlyuchenko to play, so may revert to 4-4-2, or if they stay at 4-5-1, then it will be interesting to see who they favour.

4-4-2 would favour Campbell, as he would then be the sole striker on the bench, and subsequently more likely to play.

Will be fascinating to see the game against Villa next Tuesday to see who plays up front, and whether Corluka takes the field. He has been playing centre or right back for Man Citeh but there is some talk he might fill the defensive midfielder spot. My guess is he has been bought to cover for the King/Woodgate (injury-prone) partnership.

You're quite right, Tuesday will be fascinating. The competition for Midfield places must be intense, but I really hope that a 4-4-2 becomes the norm as i really don't remember THFC prospering too often with a lone striker (exacerbated if it is Bent!). Zakora must be a fall guy as I doubt he will retain RB once Hutton is fit..but who would have thought lennon being a fringe player based on his form of a couple of years ago? The combination of a poor shot and defences doubling up on him may have seen him 'peak' as it were?
05 Sep 08:43 · edited 09 Sep 05:17
campbell has pace, is good with the ball at his feet and a decent finisher

he tended to play off bigger stronger 'lads' like windass and folan last season

he seems to have a reasonably secure spot in the Engalnd u-21 squad

i wish we'd got him , he should mature into a decent prem player

Cheers, Tigers. A bit of rocketing speed is good as often our forwards can't eep up with Lennon!

I wonder how many Arsenal fans on this site have even been to the UK, let alone Highbury/Ashburton Grove. Bound to be a few I know, but the majority of you I assume have just jumped on the Big 4 bandwagon.

Chins up yids, things will improve. Be thankful you're not in the relegation spots of League One...sigh.

Apologies Buffon II, I have a soft spot for Spurs due to one of their firms pretty much saving my life from a bunch of Chelsea c**ts a couple of years back at Seven Sisters.

Carry on your banter.

You should have armed yourself with one of the several excellent kebabs available in the seven sisters vicinity DKP22. That would have sent Chelski idiots packing

Your not allowed to mention "The big 4 bandwagon" and if your team is unlucky enough to be in Divvy 1, you must be a true alweather supporter of ENGLISH football.

My gut instinct would always say no, but this year we are without the strikers responsible for 75% of our goals in the last two seasons (in which last season was a very mediocre - yet generally normal mid table - placing).

We've never had box to box, ball winning, high scoring midfielders in my living memory and I don't see this season being any different.

Oh, and as usual, we'll rarely keep a clean sheet.

It is looking grim at this stage. Oh well, it'll make a change to have something to fight for after Christmas HarryHotspur2008-10-07 21:55:11
