The wankers at Sky have United's CL match again (SS3) which means it won't be on bein connect.

This means that a) I have to watch it through SkyGo which will either not work or run at 240p and b) no ondemand viewing (in case of a big win and required rewatch)

Sky is now having a negative impact on my football watching experience. Honestly it's like stepping back 10 years.

At least you have access to Sky in this situation, think of all the United Bein subscribers who don't #shafted

Assuming your a SKY subscriber and not using SKY GO illegally - there should be replays on Sport that you can either record if you have PVR or watch at a later date.

It's kind of a strange thing to complain about, If SKY didn't take the game it wouldn't have been on air at all - I really doubt SKY have first choice on games, I think they just take the best of what beIN isn't showing.

Edit: just checked my beIN connect app and United vs CSKA is available on the app as well.

As well as Bein 1 and 2, Connect shows live games that are not being played on Bein 1 and Bein 2 unless of course Sky choose to show them on SS 1-4. It seems the connect app will then have them on demand later in the day.

So by Sky choosing to show it it means connect cannot have it live. Sky isn't doing anyone without Sky a favour.

My biggest gripe was that SkyGo doesn't work more than anything. And as a web developer I can assure you it isn't my machine/s.

@20 Legend - 2nd week in a row Arsenal's Europa league is on Sky so Bein hasn't got it. Love paying for a service I can't use because they're still feeding their competitor content.

I don't think you're getting him. With sky getting the game Bein can't stream it - so Bein customers get dicked around.

Ugh. Being the most recognisable (at least from a Sky programming team's perspective) team in Europa I wouldn't hold my breath either. :/

but they can offer it on demand so not really much of a big deal - also the point both of you have missed is I very much doubt SKY have first "dibs" on games - so obviously beIN passed on this being one of their live broadcast games and so SKY picked it up - and with far more people subscribing to SKY sport than beIN for the majority that means access to the game live.

If you flip it and SKY didn't have it live then a much smaller percentage of people who have beIN connect would then be able to view it live.

the issue with SKY go not working half the time is a proper and real concern.

A bigger audience of non-football people. Ultimately as a fan of a particular team I have to have Bein and Sky to see the content which is absolutely fudgeed.

Pretty sure Bein have replied to someone via SM that Sky have first dibs, and it makes sense seeing as the games they show are the big English team games. That means Bein subscribers who signed up for CL don't get the big games. Wait till the quarters, semis and final as Sky had that exclusively last year...

Bein Connect users- about to make the plunge- would've earlier, but I was overseas.

Is it worth it? How good is the catchup and are there highlights packages available like PLP? Looks like a lot of great content from other leagues too.

Pro's - they have majority of live games live this season & the catch up feature & I think some highlights packages.

Con's - for ECL/Europa they give some of the content to Sky which means they don't show it at all. As an Arsenal fan I'm 0/2 watching legally, while I think United fans are 1/2. They can also be a tad slow to upload games, i.e. you could start catch up function on PLP 10 minutes into a game starting, where as I think the whole thing has to finish before it begins.

Reality is they've upped their game and for $20 PM it's nice to have the access again.

Haven't been able to sign up. Had the website give me an error message that it already had an account like that and then that it didn't when I tried to log in.

And no reply to emails from their support staff. They really don't seem to want my money.

PLP had folks on chat support IIRC.

Ok- sorted now.

Much greater range of football than PLP. If you are a fan wider than PL it's great. And if you have time.

Will see how that watching games on in the morning when you wake up at 9am etc, goes.

Is there a way to tell if a game will be shown on the app on demand? it seems to be a lottery if and when the game is put up.

Sometimes they've put their schedule up on Facebook - however I haven't had much luck lately and am left guessing like you!

Yea I've got a toddler who doesn't sleep the best so cant really afford to be getting up at 1:30am to watch a game like I used to. Sometime the first game is already available at 6am, sometimes it never becomes available.

For all of our complaints I'm greatful it's just one provider, compared to the UK being spread over 3 subscriptions to see all your teams matches...

Even then, if your teams game isn't televised that weekend you can't watch it live in the UK.

You need three different subscriptions to be able to watch approximately 50% of the Premier League. It is ridiculous.

Right so without trawling through this thread can anyone tell me how well the app works?

Ive always had it as a result of having a SKY subsrictoin but no longer have SKY so was wondering how well things worked when paying for the stand alone subscription?

You mean for Bein Sports Connect?

I believe it's exactly the same, but you just purchase directly from the website, and log in using Bein details rather than clicking the log-in-with-sky button.

Interesting that Sky seem to have completely passed on all of the pre-season friendlies this year. Or maybe it's an ESPN Australia thing, can't remember if a bunch of the ICC games used to be on ESPN or one of the Sky channels. The only friendly ESPN seem to have is the Juventus - MLS All Stars game.

Doesn't even look like they'll be showing the Community Shield on Monday, judging by the schedule.

The ICC must have some pretty messy rights.

For instance, the United games have all been televised live on MUTV and available in NZ. I'm sure all the other clubs would have been doing the same.

It's a bit mixed in Arsenal land, from memory our games in Singapore were available but not our game against Chelsea in Dublin...

Contacted BeinSports NZ and, according to the reply, they are not covering any of the Premiership games this season. They are covering  Championship games though.

It seems a bit off as they're supposed to be showing it for two/three seasons. They still have everything Premier League listed on their website including previews etc... It's too soon to view the TV Guide for next weekend though as they only put it up a week ahead of time.

I remember the noise about Spark potentially bidding for the rights to make it online-only again, but surely that would have come to fruition months ago.

If Sky's Bein rights have lapsed I guess it would make sense for them to keep it quiet in order to milk out a couple of months worth of subs before letting everyone know they won't be getting what they paid for over the last year.

Wait what???

Are the rights for this coming season not confirmed?

I thought Spark were bidding to have it from 2019/20 onwards?

Permalink Permalink

According to this,  Bein has it for this season;

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?...

"The New Zealand rights for 2016-2019 were secured by beIN sports, a subsidiary of the Al Jazeera network."

Sky head of sport Richard Last said: "We have not had the EPL rights for five seasons now.

"The rights are currently held by beIN Sports, who deliver them on Sky's platform. We know beIN have the rights for next season. We are not the current rights holders, nor even the next most recent rights holders so really cannot comment any further."

There's no indication on their website, so I have sent them a query as well.

Confused.

The Sky EPG is annoyingly stuck at 'programme unavailable' for Bein 1 next Saturday morning, trying to see if Leicester - United is listed.

didn't spark get the rights for the 2020?

Queenslander 3x a year.

Not that I'm aware of, I just remember reading about them mulling over a bid tangentially in an article about them securing the RWC rights.

I've sent a query to Sky now as well, so two irons in the fire there.

Spark are competing for the rights starting from the 2019/20 season.

Bein definitely won the rights for this season. Just no indication anywhere of whether or not they're showing it. I assumed they would be until I read HTAFC Terrier's post above, now I'm in panic.

Yeah I know, hence Sat. morning our time.

Surely it wouldn't be listed in the Sky planner if they were pulling the plug on it. I'm thinking some Sky rep misinterpreted the question sent to them by Terrier.
