Most appearances: Wes Brown (47 starts, 4 substitute apps)....

Playing for one of the best teams in the world he must be doing something right..

From Football 365's player ratings this morning (England v USA)...

WES BROWN: Distribution once again absolutely woeful - it was a relief to see him trudge off. Gets a point for his cracking defensive header in the 25th minute, but is so patently not an international-class right-back. 5/10

I was thinking exactly the same thing while watching the friendly this morning. He looked bad against very weak opposition.

he is the reuben thorne of football. doesnt really do anything good, yet still gets picked. if i had a dollar for everytime someone said thorne was good because he "does the things you dont see" .. well its televised so i can see everything, and he isnt doing anything!

That is a wildly ignorant comment (not in a "you're ignorant" kind of way, because that is also an ignorant way to describe a person)

Hopefully you're in 'persona' of your pseudonym - in which case, is brilliant.

If not...suggest you watch any given sport on television, that you also have access to watch "live" - e.g. physically, at the game. Try and watch one player.

Let's say, Reuben Thorne in this instance.

Time the amount of footage - hell, INCLUDE replays - where he is in shot...then go to a game, watch him the entire time (which, should equal approximately 80 minutes - unless he is substituted). Compare figures of what you've 'seen'.

I wholeheartedly guarantee that you can NOT see EVERYTHING on television.

More developed/advanced countries (media-wise) have a 'player cam', which you can follow - by choice - for various amounts of time. These put a real perspective on the work-rate the likes of Roy Keane, Stacey Jones, and...Reuben Thorne possess.

If they had a "player cam" on Wes Brown, people would be ringing up the broadcasters to complain about it being stuck in slo-motion .

ok maybe that was a bad analogy as off the ball (and camera) work in football is more important than in rugby. just seems the same sort of character. people love them or hate them.

as a side though, thorne was rubbish, along with caleb ralph just lucky to be in a winning crusaders team. id put my life on it that if either were playing for the highlanders they wouldnt have ever made the all blacks.
