Where's Mourinho going?

He says he's going to manage in England next season.  So, let's assemble the suspects and start the process of elimination!

Arsenal - has to be a contender.  Wenger has admitted that his project of bringing through Europe's finest youngsters cannot contend with big money clubs.  If the Gunners aim at the title again, they could do a lot worse than the Special One.

Aston Villa - McLeish is recently in the job and has done fairly well with the resources available to him.  AV also looks a bit small for Mou.

Blackburn - hahaha.  Maybe with new owners, and only if they avoid the drop.

Bolton - again, have to avoid the drop.

Chelsea - they currently have ersatz Mourinho, perhaps it's time for another dose of the real thing?  Contender.

Everton - this would be a huge surprise.  The club is ambitious, but hardly has the financial clout to pay Jose's wages, let alone allow him to reshape the squad.  Moyes is arguably better than they should be able to get.

Fulham - Just can't see it.  Jol is competent and the club isn't that rich.

Liverpool - it's conceivable.  Liverpool are a big club and the new owners are not afraid to spend.  But axing Dalglish without a shocker of a season would probably trigger "Occupy Anfield".

Man City - if they don't take the title, then yes.  Otherwise, no.

Man U - conceivable, but SAF has been loudly declaring that he'll never retire.  If Fergy's health collapses, then I would be very surprised not to see Mou replace him, otherwise, no.

Newcastle - No chance.

Norwich - too small, I think.

Q.P.R. - some people say they were lucky to get Hughes.  If they intend to ruffle feathers, bringing Mourinho onboard would definitely do it.  But I don't think the club has the money.

Stoke - No chance.

Sunderland - with the recent singing of O'Neil, I can't see it.

Swansea - too small.

Tottenham - yeah.  If 'Arry moves on to the England job, or goes to jail (hard to say which is worse), then Spurs will need a new man.  They're ambitious and big spenders these days.  Favourite.

WBA - too small.

Wigan - joke territory.

Wolves - beyond a joke.

So, the short-list reads (in order of likelyhood):

Spurs
Arsenal
Chelsea
Man City
Man U
Liverpool
Sunderland
Q.P.R.
West Ham
Leeds

Spurs would be interesting, but I think Arsenal is more likely for some reason.

I doubt he would go to Man U, I seem to recall him saying something about how he would want to wait until another manager had a go after SAF before he would consider it. Probably wise, that's a hard act to follow. Plus they have no money

can't see the gunners letting Wenger go just yet, he may be coming to the end of his time here but I reckon they'll let him leave on his own terms..... Spurs for mine or ManC

It would be interesting to see what he could do with a mid-table side like Villa. Football Manager style new challenge and all. Not that I think it would ever happen, sadly

Triffic Tottenham does.  And they have the power of alliteration!  WHO CAN I TRUST?!?!?!

Hmmm.  Go with your instincts Luke Stripes.

However while our 'Arry is 'triffic and does a 'triffic job at Spurs, any website that uses an 'Arryism to describe the club is clearly biased towards the gaffer (and not ipso facto the club per se).

I have no idea who would be a preferred manager once 'Arry exits.  Our Dear Mr Levy will probably have several irons in the fire as we speak.

He'll go to Arsenal, then next year SAF will retire and Guardiola will take his place making them enemies again - perfect.

Any team thinking about signing Guardiola should pay attention to Roma.  Barcelona is more than the sum of its parts.

Jos Antonio Camacho would be a better option.

Camacho was little as a player, but he's put on a lot of weight since retir-

Oh.

Oh, well, I guess you can change your handle to Occupy White Hart Lane.

As a Gooner, I'm torn on Mourinho. He's obviously a good manager, but I don't like him at all, so the question is - would I enjoy success with a d-bag as manager? I'm leaning towards "yes"

Camacho to ManU would be great.

Then China could look for a decent coach.

Mourinho prefers to manage teams which might actually win something though

You guys know that they play football outside of England right?

PS: best joke I've heard so far on it:

"Capello's hardly the first Italian captain to flee a sinking ship"

ummmm, this thread was started because Mourinho said he wants to return to England - hence why it's in the English Football Forum and why we are discussing English teams which he might manage...

Oh, I didn't see that, so ignore me, I'm in a foul mood. I heard a couple of other European links, but of course there's all sorts of rubbish about.

All good. TBH I personally wouldn't pay too much attention to what Mourinho says anyway. He's probably trying to get a wage rise or something

Agree Mourinho to Tottenham next season once Harry takes over England, he may share Spurs and England until the end of the season?

Only if Spurs dig deep financially.

I think we can scratch Sunderland from the list of contenders.  (i.e. Leeds looks more likely at this stage.)

Somewhere in London it would seem

Spurs? Arse-anal? Back to Chelski? Or just Jose having a laugh at the media's expense?

Saw that one on Press Pass.  Marcotti reckoned it was just a way of pressuring the Real hierarchy.
