The most interesting thing right now is that two people who are not really in contention to win the individual competition, are actually the key players when it comes to the team standings.

With Libertynz dropping out, Norwich are in freefall, and Liverpool are very close to pipping them at the post.

Obviously ronniemac is the key driver of that, but actually it's pukkiparty and leighbo who are the most important players.

Pukkiparty is keeping Norwich's freefall from being too steep, and Leighbo continuing to pick means Liverpool are the only team still trending upwards(ish). Their individual scores for the final two rounds will likely determine the team comp winners.

Obviously, as usual, the great unknown of our pre-season predictions might change everything, in both the individual and team standings... I've not looked at the stats leaders for a while, last time I did right before lockdown I was leading the way on pre-season predictions. It's probably changed a lot but personally the gap is too large for me to win anyway. At a total guess I would say maybe the top 3 are all still in contention for individual victory at this point...

Ok, we have an odd situation where TheProf, Leighbo and Kwlap all made their Round 37 picks early, then came back and made their picks again, after the Norwich vs Burnley game had been played.

The rule I've always followed when people pick more than once is to take their most recent picks.

So I used their latest picks that they made, but then I also added the points for the Burnley vs Norwich games from their first round of picks.

This is consistent with all previous scoring in these situations, for example after lockdown when some had picked Round 31 back in March, and again when we resumed, so hopefully everyone is fine with that...

Well the team standings just got bloody interesting! Leighbo with a stunning 25, Pukkiparty with a poor 11, and now just 0.01 separates the top 2!!!!

I think that might well come down to the pre-season predictions. I will essentially treat those as a 39th round in terms of the average score , so Libertynz will become a factor there again. Liverpool may well have an edge now, unless Pukkiparty has a huge final round.

Should also be noted that Arsenal climbed off the bottom in Round 34, for the first time this season...

I've not got any of the relegation candidates, and most likely none of the top 6 in the right order.

Yea the lockdown really put a dampener on things, I'm honestly gutted about that. I fully understand people not coming back, it was a real spanner in the works and really took the wind out of it.

After I put up the results etc next week, I'll gauge interest for next season, and possible changes. I feel like I need to change up the scoring system to make it a bit more engaging, and less "lucky", which it is at times. The conversation with Leggy about picking the result correctly made me think a lot about that. If sometime picks team A to win 1-0, and someone else picks them to lose 2-0, and then the result is say 2-1 to team B, the person who picked team A to win actually gets more points, which just isn't quite right on reflection.

Quick update... have done all the calculations now, so will start posting results tonight!

I will start from bottom position and make a post for each player, all the way up to 1st. And then a brief wrap of the team comp.

Unlikely to get through all that tonight but will start the posts and see how far I get.

16th: Buffon

Total Points: 380

Preseason Predictions: 25

Never recovered from a poor start, ended only having picked 19 of 38 rounds, was unfortunately never a chance. Seen better days in years gone by, will be looking to rebuild in the off season.

Permalink Permalink

15th: Brumbys

Total Points: 460

Preaseason Predictions: 35

Unable to recapture the form of his phenomenal 2017/18 season. Hovered up and down midtable before a couple of missed rounds prompted a descent into the abyss.

A decent preseason prediction score showed what could've been.

14th: Youngheart

Total Points: 463

Preseason Predictions: 25

A bright start, hanging in the top 4 for several rounds before settling in midtable for an extended period. Always seemed to be just hanging on to the pack, and then the missed rounds started to take their toll.

One of many not to return after the lockdown, resulting in a further slide to the murky depths of the table.

Permalink Permalink

13th: Legend20

Total Points: 512

Preseason Predictions: 40

Found life tough in the top flight. Had to scrap for every point but hung in there for a long time trying to keep pace. Steadied the ship for a period and briefly threatened the top half of the table, before a series of poor efforts condemned him to the depths.

Preseason predictions painted a different picture, with a stunning equal first effort - successfully picked the top scorers for each of the five teams.

12th: Surge

Points: 529

Preseason Predictions: 25

An experienced campaigner, he started strongly, before settling into a long midtable scrap. Mostly had the better of that, spending a lot of the time around the lower european spots, but never looked like he had the energy to go again.

Another post-lockdown absentee, would've been disappointed with his preaseason predictions.
