You don't actually get points for picking the correct result on its own, as bizarre as that sounds. You can score from your match pick several ways, with a maximum of 7 points available. It is split like this:
2 points for picking the correct number of goals for team 1
2 points for picking the correct number of goals for team 2
3 points for picking the correct margin
If you picked 1-1 for Liverpool/ManU this morning, you would get the maximum 7 points, as you would have picked both goal counts correctly, and the margin of 0. But if you had picked Liverpool to win 3-1 for example, you would still claim 2 points for correctly picking ManU to score 1 goal, even though you've got everything else wrong.
There's a bit of history to how we got here, tweaking over the seasons when we saw flaws in the old way of scoring, this is what we've ended up landing on. It's a difficult balance keeping it interesting without over-complicating, and I do understand how the situation you've outlined looks a little odd.
