steven jones - very fit, two great feet, and scores goals for fun. He is actually very humble and modest as well, which is astonishing considering how good he is.
Yes, humbleness is clearly one of his main traits.

I personally think that the best player out there now would have to be Ronaldinho the man is an absolute freak to say the least. Although i still believe he is still a cut above the likes of Drogba, C Ronaldo, Raul just to name a few...
Im going to through the question out to you all and see who you all think is the world's best player and why!!
have you watched the La Liga recently? Ronaldinho is clearly overweight and out of form, he rarely manages to get around his man anymore and looks to be going the way of his original namesake (Ronaldo) very, very quickly. Messi is the big star at Barca now and is integral to everything they do. I would rank him and Cesc as the two best talents in Europe at the moment. The reason I put both above C. Ronaldo is that he rarely seems to perform in the big games. Can anyone think of a definitive performance by him in Europe? I can't, but Cesc has already had many (games against inter, juve, real and Milan this morning spring to mind).

Fuck you chat some shit muso.
Kaka, is on the up & up. great skil, greater vision. Not as good as Elrich when crossing but that can be fixed.
I know it's bad to take a view on a player based on just one game, but this morning he was absolutely bossed.
To make matters worse, he has a tendency to go to ground every single time he gets the ball, which makes for frustrating viewing.

I only saw the first half of the first leg so didn't feel qualified to comment.

by the way isnt kaka a midfielder dean?
gerrard gives up possession too easily and is greedy as hell. dives all the time too. overrated like rooney.
Spot on on Gerrard RF. One of the most overrated players in world football.
My enduring image of Gerrard is in the Croatia game last November, Gerrard has the ball in the middle of the park, unmarked, and tries to pass to Beckham who's standing unmarked near the sideline. Easy 15 metre pass that anyone on this forum could make, yet Gerrard smashes it five metres past Goldielocks and the ball goes for a throw-in. His passing in general is too poor for him to be considered a truly world-class player.
And as for Kaka, I'd class him as an attacking midfielder.
My overriding image of Gerrard is the '06 Cup Final vs West Ham, which should go down as The Gerrard Final a la Matthews '56. Very rarely can a player grab the game by the scuff of the neck like he did that day. Fantastic, and if any of you who are criticising him thought about it long enough you'd realise I'm right. He stood up to be counted when it really mattered, and he's done it many times. He's a superb footballer.
Not disputing that Gerrard has been very good for Liverpool in the Premisrhip and the FA Cup, but that does not make him a world-class player.

Make that two games. He did absolutely nothing in the first leg against Arsenal too.

I think its hard to go past Messi and C. Ronaldo just for the sheer talent they posess.
I really like Fabregas and Eto as well.

I really think Messi(ah) is up there.. I love to see such a skilled player, that also has the grit to keep going through hard challenges etc. Yes, I am talking to you C Ronaldo..
But between those two, Cesc would be my second for obvious reasons.. :)
Messi for me.
Ronaldinho was the best in 2005. In the 2006 world cup he was terrible and while he still shows flashes of brilliance, he hasn't got back to what he was.

Cristiaono Ronaldo, after he achieves club and country European Glory
Shane Smeltz. Dah.
Christian Chivu. Now thats a player who makes defending look easy. Not since Maldini in his prime, or Baresi has there been such a awsome player.
Stephen Gerrard, is more a complete midfielder than Ronaldo, as Ronaldo does to much showboating. You wouldnt be able to knock him off the ball as easy you would anyother midfielder. He always wants to play for his club or his country.
And upfront Kaka, Storng, powerful, direct with all the skills of his fellow Brazilians
Gerrard > God

As for best player in the world right now, there are three, and they've all been mentioned here already; Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka. For fans of Ronaldinho, maybe a year ago he might have been up there, but he's lost his way and needs to move clubs.
What we really need now is a Best Player Ever thread. I think I'll start it.
Not disputing that Gerrard has been very good for Liverpool in the Premisrhip and the FA Cup, but that does not make him a world-class player.

No, he needs a top quality performance at WC2010 to prove that. I think he will.
But England have to qualify first...
I knew you'd say that!
They will under Capello.
