As a mid 40s man who coaches his 2 daughters in the beautiful game, I almost have tears of joy!
So happy for the Ferns!
Amazing win!

I am only just starting to breathe. amazing.
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.
20 Jul 09:06
We did it!!!!
Superb effort by the ladies. Each and everyone of them left it all out there this evening. What a moment, a great moment in footballing history in this country at that.

Soak it in everyone, what a night to be a New Zealander!

Unbelievable! That last 20 minutes was pure nerves. Epic result! Couldn't have gone any better.

Seriously though, 9 mins added time sucks! So not justified
20 Jul 09:08
Full credit to  Jacqui Hand for setting that goal up ! Good game and team work, would have been nice to see Jale  on over Rennie, Wilkinson & Hand great up front
20 Jul 09:09
Awesome performance from everyone. What a great night for football. Love it!
20 Jul 09:10
SKY'S coverage utter shark though. No pitch side commentary like in CL final. Why not have 6, 7, or 8 of NZs best footballers on a couch and giving us some decent coverage? Com'on this is the host country of a global sports event and Sky puts 3 ppl on a couch

The tradition of the hosts winning the opening game in a women's world cup continues.

What was the final crowd number? Looked about 48k. You could tell it was mainly non football fans - NO singing. Not even a Mexican Wave. But they showed up and got to see history being made. Well done. I like the cultural touch. Instead of Vuvuzela's or  waving scarves, tee shirts, bangers, they were waving Poi's. That looked quite cool
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Just checking in to see if any of the KLIMKÓVA OUT brigade are doing the Royz thing of "Well done Jitka, never doubted you for a moment" :D

Steinmetz had an absolutely epic shift in midfield. Norway seem to have decided to come and try to get in a pushing-and-shoving match - very bad idea against Kiwi girls. My one criticism would be that I thought Klimkóva should have made another defensive sub earlier. The team were definitely flagging from 80 minutes on, coughing up the ball, and Norway could easily have gotten 1 or 2 goals.

That's pretty damn good. A Thursday night, Football, Auckland and dare I risk saying it, Women's sport. The Boofheads up there would be seething. So I say, well done, Auckland, 42k made it a great occassion.

Biggest crowd ever for ANY football in this country. Including the All Whites.

Friendly matches mean nothing and can be very deceiving.

Everyone else's audio from the Aus-ROI match shark? There's static/background fuzz going on.
20 Jul 09:46
Just a question, I was watching on Prime, and the feed was very distorted, almost unwatchable, for the first 5 minutes of the game, then it cleared up. Was it like that on Sky as well?

Not that I noticed. Did suffer through a couple of rain fades though and had to resort to SkyGo.

Aussie audio seems fine now so someone at Sky or the world feed hq must have pushed the right cord in.

Even the audio guy demands the brown envelope eventually. Fair enough.

I honestly would have been happy with a 1-0 loss.  A 1-0 win is something special.
. seriously we all just witnessed something special people.

Maybe the wrong place but is anyone familiar with obstructed view tickets at Sky Stadium? Can't think where that would be.

I couldn't watch the game live. Had to wait until kids had gone to bed. Just finished the replay. So glad I turned my phone off and didn't have the surprise ruined.. 100 minutes of football. I'm just in awe. I can't even get the words out. That was beyond best case scenario. Every single player put in the shift of their lives. They didn't just rise to the occasion they smashed it. I kept waiting for the performance levels to drop and normal proceedings go resume. But the girls just kept upping and upping their game. They never let up. This has to be high up there in one of the greatest new zealand sporting moments of all time right?

WE'RE GOING THE WIN THE FUDGING WORLD CUP!!!!

Hi @Patrick Barnes

Some observations about tonight.

Man I miss football with a crowd!

Crowd was meh, the only chant I could make out around the stadium was in the 80th minute which sounded like some sort of countdown? Followed by 4 men standing up and waving white ribbons around their heads. Respect.

Can't believe I bumped into a Feverite who recognised me! A long way from home!

Was having second thoughts about going tonight after this morning's tragedy and the weather forecast. Christ I'm glad I went. What an atmosphere after that amazing full field goal and at the end. Awesome to shove one up the Murray Deakers of the world who have tried to talk this team and cup down for the last year. Get fudgeing IN!

didn't even rain! What a nervous morning it was this morning - I was in Dunedin off work so basically just in front of the TV a bit anxious about tonight

I have never been happier to have been proved to be completely and utterly wrong.
So glad I went to the game.
Im really looking forward to seeing the Wellington fans do their thing, will be a sell out Im sure. We had 3 or 4 fans do the shirts off thing during the Norway game, expecting to see a far far bigger contingent do the same in the next game.  I thought the team deserved this win too, they were better for a decent chunk of the game.

Beyond happy. I said to my wife the kids are staying up to watch it as I won’t be able to contain myself. Steinmetz was awesome, so Composed. CJ Bott so aggressive. Percival’s positioning was spot on and the only shot they had on target Esson tipped onto the bar. Wilkinson had the game of her life, somehow gained a turbo boost of speed not seen before, and the side footed finish when in the past she might have put it over or hit it straight at the keeper. Wow! What a goal, and a lovely team goal to boot. Our wingers were superb, totally justified their starting spots. We should have subbed IP Riley and Steinmetz earlier and brought on Longo and Chance to help with the composure to see out the game. But we got there in the end, no doubt the crowd gave us the energy to carry on. Hopefully Stott is not injured and it was her being knackered after being ill recently. That was bloody epic! What an awesome month it’s going to be. Bring the noise Wellington!💪
