For the first time in 20 years, I haven't yet bought the latest game. And not in a hurry to.

I'm still playing an epic game of FM2011, about 10 seasons in, the first time in all my days of CM/FM I've ever played more than a handful of seasons in one game. Some amazing regens, trophy after trophy, good times.

And I've downloaded the demo of FM12, but only bothered to play one match so far... simply wasn't overly inspired by it.

And the fact that the A-League is still an absolute disgrace in every regard is really poor form. Along with the cocked up rules, bugs, etc, the squads are generally abysmal too. And unfortunately despite offering my services to help out (particularly with the Nix), it never got anywhere... I'd like to think my quick Phoenix update for FM11 was far more accurate than the initial effort, and I was happy to volunteer to help... but alas.

An accurate and playable A-League would more than certainly sway me to purchase it, but I'm not hanging out for it to happen...

YES finished exams this afternoon! Straight on Football Manager, first piece of business with the Phoenix is to sign none other than JASON CULINA! Made him available using the data editor to remove him from the Jets. Just offered a marquee deal to a Brazilian striker as well. Webber didn't want to negotiate with me.

Montrose update.

2011/12 - Woeful first year. Finished 10th. About 17 pts off 9th.

2012/13 - Big improvement. Finished 3rd and qualified for the playoffs. Went out 6-4 on aggregate to Berwick in heartbreaking circumstances (extra time).

2013/14 - Too many draws. Finished 4th and made the playoffs again. Again went out in the first round this time 1-0 to 2nd div strugglers Stenhousemuir. Not as gutting as Berwick but still hurt.

Start of 2014/15 and we are too inconsistent for my liking. On our day can smack anyone by 4+ but too many times don't exert ourselves enough, particularly away, and struggle for points.

Just finished my first season with Plymouth Argyle and below is a quick summary if anyone is interested

Won League 2 on final day of the season (Expectation: Mid-table)
FA Cup: 2nd round (Expectation: 2nd round)
League Cup: First Round (Expectation First Round)
Johnston's Paint Trophy: 2nd round (Expectation: None)

Transfers in:

Pablo Counago ST Free Agent. 39 games 22 goals. Av. Rating: 7.09
Kris Bright ST Free Agent. 31 games 6 goals. Av. Rating 6.83
Hatem Trabelsi RB Free Agent 32 games 6 assists. Av. Rating 7.03
Jon Meades RW Cardiff (Loan) 42 games 8 goals 7 assists Av. Rating6.95
Dean Bouzanis GK Free Agent 31 games 9 Clean Sheets Av. Rating 6.94
James Wilson CB Bristol City (Loan) 14 games 4 goals Av.Rating 7.42
Ryan Tunnicliffe CM Man Utd (Loan) 21 games 1 goal 7 assists Av.Rat 7.24
Alessandro Pellicori ST QPR (Loan) 17 games 7 goals 4 assists AvRat 7.08
Esteban Casegolda ST Free Agent 2 games 0 goals Av. Rat 6.65
Will Atkinson LW Hull City (Loan) 40 games 8 goals 20 assists Av.Rat 7.48

Will Atkinson also got League 2 Player of the Year and Curtis Nelson got Young Player of the Year. Had to terminate Romain Larrieu's contract for a large price so I could free up some wage budget to offer new contracts to my young stars. Plymouth are an exciting team to manage because when the game starts there are only 10 players over the age of 21. Heaps of teenagers who have lots of potential although no reserve team makes it hard. Not a bad year considering I had a 0 transfer budget, tiny wage budget, and the club is near administration.

Montrose update:

2014/15 - Going up. League champions by NINETEEN points. Deserved by a mile.

2015/16 - 10 games in. Sitting in 4th. Into the Challenge Cup final.

I've built a core squad who have been together for 3+ years now which i'm sure helps. They are all young too and getting better each season.

Bugger. Had to give up on Plymouth right when I was getting into it. The board reduced my wage budget for the move up to League One. Couldn't sign anyone on free transfers after that. No one wanted to come on loan either. It was actually easier to attract players for transfers and loans while in League 2. The board then accepted offers on my behalf for all of my young stars, meaning I was left with 12 players with 2 weeks until the opening game. Time to choose a new club to start with...

so download completed the other night, I thought I'd try my hand at a lower league english team, so went down to the Blue Square Prem Conf and decided on 'Forest Green' - preseason has gone ok so far......will post updates on how the first season goes.

Love the new look of FM 12 though, very happy that I made the decision to make the purchase.

I have just got me a copy of this and considering I am stuck in Blenheim - New Zealand's most boring town - for a considerable amount of time I suspect I will get well into it.

I've decided I'm going to manage Birmingham as I like the challenge of attempting to get promoted while also being qualified for a European Competition.

All of this plus improved match engine, less buggy on release, and the ability to add/remove leagues within the game.

What are most interesting/hardest teams to manage?

Considering starting unemployed with no rep but would need to load a lot of leagues for that to be enjoyable, something my comp won't handle.

You get San Marino regens. If you improve, you get better regens. That improves San Marino as a nation. It is a very popular challenge.

is there a way to start off as manager of a national team and a club without having two active managers?

Your best chance is to take control of national team and ensure you have a high enough rep to apply for a club side immediately with a good chance of taking charge.

Bought it in the Steam sales, straight to West Ham.

Promoted straight away, kept the money well under both budgets, so had a little bit to play with.
Bought a couple regens who looks good, Owen Hargreaves on a free, Joe Cole on loan, Alessandro Nesta on a free, Javier Saviola on a free (not as big a coup as I thought, well goal-shy), Joris Mathijsen for $1.2mil ($0 up front, over 48 months), and a couple more regens coming in mid-season.

From front to back my best team is:
Green
Faubert, Nesta, Tomkins, Matty Taylor
Joe Cole, Nolan, Hargreaves, James McFadden (signed first season)
Carlton Cole, Saviola.

Am pretty confident we'll avoid relegation, lost at Chelsea 2-1, then beat Wolves 2-0. Goals are coming from midfield, I think I have the world's 2 most over-rated strikers.

Update: I took West Ham from promotion to 5th overall in the Premier League, and there is only one owner now meaning I don't get screwed around at boardroom meetings.

Also qualified us for EURO Cup football, so invested heavily in depth as well as some new players. Brought in the likes of Christopher Metzelder, Daniele Bonera, Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel from Liverpool, Adel Taraabt, Gareth Barry (loan), Ryan Babel, Andre Gignac, and a whole bunch of young blokes (regens) who are being touted as the next big thing.

Am 2 and 1 in the league so far and qualified for EURO Cup with Inter Milan, AZ Alkmaar and some Turkish club, so should make money by progressing outta the group stages.

My best team goes: Robert Green, Jose Bosingwa, James Tomkins, Martin Skrtel, Matty Taylor, Adel Taraabt, Gareth Barry, Charlie Adam, James McFadden, Javier Saviola, Andre Gignac.

Best thing is I managed to clear out nearly all the dead wood that were on bloated wages but you really have to be careful during contract negotiations. The agents can be cut-throat and slip in Highest Earner clauses meaning if one person makes the most money another 2 will automatically equal his wages.

I figure if I can keep making money and buying the best young talent for 2 more seasons I'll be able to stockpile all the income in order to make the club richer for when I need to splurge.

As an aside, my reputation is at a point where I can attract top talent, but they want STUPID money to play.
I had bids accepted for Tevez and Andy Carroll, and they wanted $320k and $185k a week respectively.

Have never clicked the "Exit Talks" button so fast.
