I was thinking of managing QPR even before today, so the dealine day transfers seal the deal for me. I may choose a League 1 team like I usually do and try and get them to win the premiership...
Oh and I will also have a game as the Nix, its too hard to resist.
I totally agree nzmanu, a way to import your 11 game to 12 would be amazing, one year is nowhere near long enough to play a whole game.
Can you download a file with the proper A-League players or something? Cos I went to manage the Nix but all their players were fake?

Really? Did you choose the regens only option when starting the game? All the players were real for me.

Still issues with Oceania nations cup?
The Oceania Cup of Nations (Actually the OFC Nations Cup) is quite inaccurately implemented in FM2010, as it stands.
It now occurs every 4 years - 2004, 2008, 2012, etc, and is represented by a series of home and away games, spread out over the course of about 12 months. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_OFC_Nations_Cup for an example of how it should work.
The top team will be able to participate in a playoff (home leg & away leg) against the fifth team in the AFC, and the winner of that will gain World Cup Qualification.
The top team will also qualify for the Confederations Cup.
This is the only OFC/FIFA tournament that would require New Zealand national team players, and only during the six games every four years, and they don't all clash with A-League fixtures, just a couple of them. Wellington Phoenix and other A-League clubs might miss their NZ Nationals for one or two games every four years. Instead of for half the season, including finals every four - or two - or however SI have this scheduled right now - and/or during the other redundant Confed Cup and WC qualification tournaments that are in FM2010, and no longer exist in the RL football world
Since 2008, the four teams in the OFC Nations Cup are New Zealand (automatic entry), and the three medallists in the Football event at the four-yearly South Pacific Football Games - which in 2007 happened to be New Caledonia, Fiji, and Vanuatu, but could in theory be one of a number of nations. Solomon Islands would probably back themselves to be a medalist (and therefore qualiy for the OFC Nations Cup) more often than not, but they missed out in 2007. Papua New Guinea would also be a contender.
I'd love to hope that the SI team can fix this for FM2011.
I've got the same issue as icarus, and I've figured out what's wrong (I'm sure you guys at SI have, as well).
This is a serious issue that I wish was fixed in the last patch. Not sure how it was so overlooked by SI. Was very annoyed last night (playing as the Phoenix) when i had to struggle with youth players and second string players when about 10 All Whites were away on international duty, only got 4 points in last 5 games (4 draws) of the season and finished second by a point. Battled through the finals and lost on penalties in the grand final. If I had my first team I am sure things would have been different. Not much incentive to sign NZ players to the only professional team in the country.
Oceania still a trainwreck. Trying to get some of it cleared by final data load next Monday. Hopefully have some better by first data patch.
I think they have fixed that, just in time to abandon the Pacific games side of the qualifying. I haven't done any test yet so can't say 100% but I certainly provided information on it for the developers.
Yeah, just checked FM11 bugs forum and was an issue then (those quotes from FM10 bugs forum).
Test to see if any other issues are still prevalent:

yeah I hate that I'm tempted but I'm very close to making the purchase, which is odd given I said I'd wait for the 2013 release. I'm still enjoying 2011.
Me too.
I'll at least wait for the patches before deciding whether to get it or not.
My shortlist so far:
Phoenix (never played with us before)
QPR (an old favourite, will be espc. good with Barton etc.)
West Ham
Newcastle
Blackburn
Brighton
Southampton
I usually go for low Premier League or High to Mid Championship sides. Would welcome suggestions though!
33 days until my last exam. At which point I'll start playing FM12! Hmmm who to be?
i always enjoy going with an English team with a kiwi in it. maybe Ipswich or Birmingham? Aberdeen would be alright with big Rory up front

Yeah I'm the same. I always make a loan offer for Wood and bought Tommy Smith once and have got Fallon on my current Charlton game, works a treat. Wood ended up at Manchester United in the second season on one of my FM11 save games.
Anyone in NZ been able to download this A-League specific demo? Gives me an error, saying wrong region... A-League demo
Yeah I think you have to be in Australia.
Anyone been playing the A-League on the demo?

Surprised nobody has started this thread yet. Details of FM12 are starting to come in, been officially announced by SI.
The Guardian have done a round up of the new features and posted a couple of video's of the new 3D engine and customisable layout. I'm really looking forward to having the ability to have multiple windows, I'll have the 3D game on my main monitor with the Tactics page open on my secondary monitor.
Official press release here.

Cheers Patrick. I only wish you could import save games from 11 to 12. Every year I'm in the middle of an exciting 'project' when the next edition comes out.
Any early ideas on candidates to manage? I'm thinking QPR could be fun again after all their deadline day deals.

Cannot wait for this one. Anyone know the release date and when it will be available for pre-order on Steam?
No word on dates or anything yet, but the new features are looking awesome. I'm going to preorder this as soon as it is available, cannot wait.
If only I could continue my FM11 save game in FM12...

FM12 blogs - miscellaneous (pt 3 of 3)
A-league specifically
"Lets start with the A League, where there have been significant changes to the marquee player rules inside Football Manager 2012.
For a start, we didnt have a way for our Australian head researchers to identify the marquee players in real life to ensure they were treated correctly by the game, which we now do have with support both in the database and in game.
This was perfectly timed with the A League deciding to allow 2 adult marquee players, rather than one. So you can now have 2 of them, as long as one of them is Australian
Weve added support for the Youth Marquee player too, which is an Australian marquee player who must be under 23 years old. These are also now reflected in the game, the database, and therefore the data editor too
Theres also a new schedule in place for the Australian season, alongside big changes to the roster rules for the teams, to ensure its more realistic and easier to understand."

I installed Steam just then and I have to say I like the idea of it, especially after all the dramas I had last year over finding a retailer that sells the box version. I was typing in my credit card number just then when something from my Finance course at Uni actually rammed home - I'll save my money, collect the interest, and order it at release date!

Wood got bought by Real Madrid for $10m in my game, crazy. My excitement levels are rising for this game, can't wait to see the new Stripey in there!
Just treated myself to a 15 inch MacBook Pro to play it on. Beats the jumpy HP that I only bought 2 years ago! Definately can't wait now.

Yeah I think you have to be in Australia.
Downloading the Demo today. Have to say it looks very good from what i've seen online. Waiting for those patches to come out will be a right pain though.
Anyone been playing the A-League on the demo?
Nah, couldn't download it because of region errors... :/
Tried to play with the Nix, too many errors to make it worth while
Tried to play with the Nix, too many errors to make it worth while
What do you mean by errors? Errors with squads etc?
Yeah the squad mostly, the squad is given five extra players (2x Gk, 1x ST, 1x CM and 1x Am (RLC)) all whom are really sh*t and are decent wages so it costs 500k to get rid of them from the start, so you have no money left to get anyone decent after. That along with all the staff members being absolutely sh*t theres no point playing till the full version comes out and you can edit it you self.
