I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion about this game on these forums!
shabba121, you can hardly complain/be surprised that the requirements
for a game get higher than in previous years? anyway, my computer isn't
any better than yours - a 1.4ghz athlon + 1GB RAM + old128MB FX5200
graphics card. And I can run the game adequately - sure, I've got 3D
detail at minimum, and it's a little jerky, and I have small database
and only 3 leagues playable, but again it runs adequately. How many
other 2009 games am I capable of running on my rig? None!
P.S. have you actually unticked the box in preferences for loading the 3D engine?
Anyway, to my game... Playing in the A League as the Roar... couldn't
bring myself to be the Phoenix, with so many data inaccuracies (much
improved over FM08, tho). At least I'm not so familiar with the Roar,
so the inaccuracies are not such a big deal.
The Roar are financially crippled in the game, it appears the Roar's
sponsorship money is peanuts compared to other A League teams, meaning
I'm losing 40k a month - a lot for an A League team!
I had a transfer budget of only 17k - so buying players is virtually
out of the question. Picked up decent midfielder Nik Sabljak for 12k,
former Victory defender Daniel Piorkowski on a free (he's been good),
and an 18 year old midfielder, James Brown (I feel good!) on a free -
he has 16 long shots, 15 passing, 20 determination, high technique and
work rate, and decent physical stats. Gave him "Shoots from distance"
PPM, so hopefully in time he'll be deadly.
Roar have quite a decent squad. Charlie Miller has been very good for
me, scoring a couple of screamers, but his woeful physical stats are
already catching up with him. Tiatto has also been good but clearly
getting long in the tooth.
Started the season decently - was unbeaten in Preseason Cup, with 1 win
and 2 draws, but still missed out on final. Demolished Sydney 7-0 -
thanks to some issue where most of their better players were
ineligible, and they had loads of rubbish youth players playing.
Have been solid in the league, up until recently. Am currently 5th
after 13 games, but have lost my last 4 games, and the squad now has
horrible morale. Hoping I can turn in around, and sneak into the
playoffs. I've only scored 12 in 13 games, so need to try and score
more, even though I play very attacking tactics/formation. The league
table looks a bit odd, with Sydney, Melbourne, and the Phoenix below me.
Already planning for next season - picking up accomplished and
experienced Peruvian centre back Miguel Rebosio on a free transfer, he
should go well in partnership with Craig Moore.
But the big coup is getting Shane Smeltz, also on a free transfer. I
actually had Archie Thompson also accept terms, but had to decide
between them because of wage budget - tough decision, but Smeltz just
got the nod, and with his Australian nationality his shouldn't count as
an international player. Although he looks quite decent in the game,
he's having a terrible season for the Phoenix, with 2 goals in 14 games.
Also had Cassio accept terms - he looks bloody great in this game - but
can't afford to give him an international spot, and Andrew Packer has
been my most consistent player.
Will post the end of season details when I get there :)
