Bugger I must have the wrong version of 8.0.2
Permalink Permalink

Oh I realise now, there was two versions of 8.0.2, one with lots of mistakes on transfers and one that fixed the transfers.... must have fixed the nationality issue on that 2nd version of 8.0.2

I stuck with the first one and corrected the transfer errors myself in the editor, maybe thats why mine still go to Aussie

No I definately have 8.0.2

I'm guessing it's coz I have the first version of it, if you remember the fixed version of 8.0.2 was released a few days after the first fixing their blunders

HN, what's your final thought on FM09 before it's released tomorrow? Did SI do most of the tweaks your suggested? And any idea how long before the first patch is released....because we all know it's only then that we see the true FM.

TBH, I have not touched 09 for about 4 weeks, summer football, TW, the Phoenix, the U-17's and the Fever have used all my time.  I would expect to see a patch in the next few days if it's not already out.

There won't be any changed Oceania data in that patch or any change to the Phoenix.

I would appreciate if someone who has the game would load the data editor, find the Nix and just take a screenshot of the players CA & PA for us, will all fit into one screenshot.  Prefereably sorted from top CA to bottom CA

Many thanks

First Impressions are that this a squad update on '08 with a new feature which, if anything, makes the game worse. I'll keep playing because I have probably missed a few things but at this stage it aint looking good...

TV Mode is well....Terrible. I went back to playing in the original 2D view.

Ah well. Even if it is just a squad update still a good game.

Completely agree on 3D mode, what a waste of f**king time. The revamped 2D mode is great, also love the Assistant Feedback.

Currently in Pre-Season with King's Lynn. Arduous so far...

Cheers yomcat, Kwassie's over rated, same with Mully, but a few like Siggy are a bit underrated, good to see he has an okay PA

Any intitial thoughts on the game people?

What are the new features like?

What player so far have you found surprised you both good and bad?

It's a good upgrade. I've played as a national (Spain) manager so far.

Thoughts:
- The 2D match viewing thing looks stupid with smaller dots, but the 3D one is pretty cool. Haven't tried TV view
- Highlighting positions in red that currently have unavailable players in them is useful
- Having a little dot on the team selection showing position proficiency is great.
- Press conferences are average. They can be fun to storm out of, but players don't seem to react in the ways they used to.

Also, staff seem to be more receptive to national jobs. It might just have been the bunch that I picked, but only Pat Rice turned me down, and that was for the U19s.

And the little square flags on the split view look like they've got the aspect ratios all wrong.

Just noticed that news screens now have two columns down the bottom instead of a scroll. Very nice.

I like the TV view - far more fun to watch.

I have taken over at Swindon (always have a random choice to start) and doing ok.  Beat Birmingham 4-1 away from home  in the Carling Cup

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite

FM has been destroyed for me! It runs fine until you get to match day and try and use either the 3D or 2D views because it becomes incredibly jittery to watch, as if my system is having problems keeping up. I have a 1.6GHz processor and 1.5GB of RAM, which as been more than enough in every game beforehand, but now I can't watch the games on FM09, so ruins it for me. I don't like the 3D view, so only use 2D and that should be simple to run with what my laptop has got.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion about this game on these forums!

shabba121, you can hardly complain/be surprised that the requirements for a game get higher than in previous years? anyway, my computer isn't any better than yours - a 1.4ghz athlon + 1GB RAM + old128MB  FX5200 graphics card. And I can run the game adequately - sure, I've got 3D detail at minimum, and it's a little jerky, and I have small database and only 3 leagues playable, but again it runs adequately. How many other 2009 games am I capable of running on my rig? None!

P.S. have you actually unticked the box in preferences for loading the 3D engine?

Anyway, to my game... Playing in the A League as the Roar... couldn't bring myself to be the Phoenix, with so many data inaccuracies (much improved over FM08, tho). At least I'm not so familiar with the Roar, so the inaccuracies are not such a big deal.

The Roar are financially crippled in the game, it appears the Roar's sponsorship money is peanuts compared to other A League teams, meaning I'm losing 40k a month - a lot for an A League team!

I had a transfer budget of only 17k - so buying players is virtually out of the question. Picked up decent midfielder Nik Sabljak for 12k, former Victory defender Daniel Piorkowski on a free (he's been good), and an 18 year old midfielder, James Brown (I feel good!) on a free - he has 16 long shots, 15 passing, 20 determination, high technique and work rate, and decent physical stats. Gave him "Shoots from distance" PPM, so hopefully in time he'll be deadly.

Roar have quite a decent squad. Charlie Miller has been very good for me, scoring a couple of screamers, but his woeful physical stats are already catching up with him. Tiatto has also been good but clearly getting long in the tooth.

Started the season decently - was unbeaten in Preseason Cup, with 1 win and 2 draws, but still missed out on final. Demolished Sydney 7-0 - thanks to some issue where most of their better players were ineligible, and they had loads of rubbish youth players playing.

Have been solid in the league, up until recently. Am currently 5th after 13 games, but have lost my last 4 games, and the squad now has horrible morale. Hoping I can turn in around, and sneak into the playoffs. I've only scored 12 in 13 games, so need to try and score more, even though I play very attacking tactics/formation. The league table looks a bit odd, with Sydney, Melbourne, and the Phoenix below me.

Already planning for next season - picking up accomplished and experienced Peruvian centre back Miguel Rebosio on a free transfer, he should go well in partnership with Craig Moore.

But the big coup is getting Shane Smeltz, also on a free transfer. I actually had Archie Thompson also accept terms, but had to decide between them because of wage budget - tough decision, but Smeltz just got the nod, and with his Australian nationality his shouldn't count as an international player. Although he looks quite decent in the game, he's having a terrible season for the Phoenix, with 2 goals in 14 games.

Also had Cassio accept terms - he looks bloody great in this game - but can't afford to give him an international spot, and Andrew Packer has been my most consistent player.

Will post the end of season details when I get there :)

Your problem with Queensland isn't sponsorship, it's the ridiculous amount Suncorp costs you for matches I would imagine.  Also, the lad Brown has signed in real life for the Gold Coast.

Well Suncorp may play a factor, but at the start of the season I got a message about A League sponsorship. I received 22k for the season - I can't remember exact figures, but pretty sure other teams were listed as getting hundreds of thousands, or something, a lot more than what I'm getting anyway.

Anyway, I'm stoked - just snapped my losing streak, with my best performance of the season in beating the Victory. Only 1-0 - but 58% possession, 16 shots vs 2 (their 2nd shot smashed against the crossbar in the 93rd minute!). But made the brave call to drop Miller to the bench, and started Brown and Sabljak together in the middle for the first time.

Worked a treat - in the 12th minute, Sabljak laid a short pass off to Brown, who had a ping from 35 yards on an angle - smashed into the top left corner! Best goal of the season, without a doubt.

Missed a whole host of great chances - funny how FM mirrors real life so well, both Reinaldo and van Dijk have gone 600 minutes without scoring, and with their terrible morale, are missing sitters. Can't wait to get Smeltz!

Because of my low computer specs, I started the game with a Small database, and this is hurting already - in the past, you could find some awesome Brazilians / East Europeans, but aside from having virtually every Aussie and Kiwi player loaded into the database, there is very few other nationalities available for free/etc.

I've heard of some guys getting the likes of Viduka to the A League after one or two seasons, that would be pretty neat.
