In a game thread dominated by FIFA and FM (wtf?), anyone out there been playing this?

I have had on the 360 for a while now, and got the beautiful guide with it (and yes, it is beautiful). I think it is a great game, although im a slightly biased PES user since being hooked to PES3. MY thoughts, It IS harder, and has some cool options like using a camera to make your own player that has your face thats shows emotions and moves etc.. Master League is still great and player ratings are all quite good (maybe except Cesc Fabregas). Like always it is lacking rights so it can be annoying playing North London vs Man Red, but there are patches available so it is all bad. One bad point, is the goalies have some unpredictable brain spasms. Or maybe that was just Mad Jens Lehmann having 'one of his days'. Anyway, any thoughts out there? or even non-fifa converts?

I dont like FIFA. Bought PES 3 for $10 at the Warehouse and got hooked.

Is Fabregas's rating too low?

Its kinda annoying with the club names but I changed it in an older game and saved it over to the latest PES games (on ps2).

yeah you can get all sorts of updates for correct names for competitions, teams, strips, sponsors etc its just a bit of time thats all. Yeah Cese is rated horribly tbh. Eboue is better than him ffs!
but there is a patch so hope he improves. he has a good improvement curve tho, so if you play a season and he is in your team he will become a god eventually but for exhibitions not so good.

it's weird it's almost like this season FIFA and PES have swapped roles. fifa is the more slow simulation type game where it's harder to score and PES is the faster arcade type goal fest game. both super fun games i reckon, but funny how they have switched from previous years.

I'm slightly disappointed with ProEvo 2008, despite being a ProEvo man my whole gaming career.

What really pisses me off is random refereeing (and keeping too, but it's not as bad). The kind when you just pass the ball and it's a foul against you for some stupid reason. Or when your guy pretty much gets killed by the computer opponent and nothing happens. Really weird. Could have been an absolutely amazing game, but I haven't played it for a week now, so that says it all I suppose....

i would tend to disagree with u here, altho i havent played Fifa  so i cant really comment on that, however if u think Pro evo is the Fast game it scares me to think how slow Fifa is.
Just got 2008 and i'm loving it, just about to win div.2 with Blackburn, GO nelsen, also got Micah Richards and Shorey in first transfer, mean defence!
I've been hooked on 05 for ages now and my impression of the 2008 version is that its a bit slower than its predecessors, but overall the gameplay is much much nicer. The physics are waaaay more realistic, your player has to have momentum to do what u want him to do, and everything just looks more realistic. The way the kick the ball is far better, they actually hit it in a realistic way.

Haven't seen any of the goaly probs your talking about NZgooner, although i'm loving the 1 handed saves! they look amazing
o ya, n the licsences arnt a problem.. i just spent 20 mins at the start and changed all the english name which now = all English teams have the right names.
Wish it had the Nix tho.

Pretty much spot on muso. I think its less arcadey than previous evo editions and MUCH less than fifa. there has been the odd problem with keeping and reffs for me, but that has been in 2 player exhibition matches. i.e got a red card for a shoulder to shoulder challenge (maybe slightly rough) but in other times the reff doesnt even blow the whistle. that was the same with the keeper problem, no problems in ML.

To the guy with the phoenix strip that is well impressive. looks great!

wel if you havent even played fifa 08 how can yuo compare the speed of the two games?? pes plays more like fifa 07 then fifa 08 does. pes is the faster, easier to score arcadey type game. well i tend tend to score more goals when playing pes then with fifa anyways. not saying one is better, theyre just different.

r u kidding me? *Palm to forehead*..

read please, i compared the 2 speeds of the games without playing Fifa 08 because of the comment u made that u even quoted, saying that u believe that PES is a Faster game, while Fifa is slower and in your words, more simulation like. Therefore, due to common  and sensible logic, i believe that PES 08 is generally a much slower and more of an actual simulation of real soccer than previous versions of PES, therefore Fifa must be extremely slow to be slower. make sense to u?

Edit: and now rereading my own post it seems i didnt even compare them, so what u on about?

i dont know what game you're playing but pes is fast, and no fifa isnt super slow like you're hinting but just slower then pes in that you have to build goals a bit more creatively then just running the length of the field with a player (like its quite easy to with pes). pro- pes people are so one eyed, fifa is clearly the better game this year. who knows maybe pes can get back on top again but for now fifa is definitely the much better game.

and yes its quite sad to be arguing over a video game haha each to their own though i suppose.

i have to agree with muso, not because im a short sighted PES supporter, but because me and a friend have had this agruement for a while. he is a fifa player and myself pes. and this competition were both based on the newer versions.

we both played our games untill we had completed on the hardest setting, which took me abit longer then had a match vs each other with both fifa and pes. first we played a game with pes arsenal vs barcelona ( iwas arsenal and they are rather underrated) and won 2-1 we then played fifa 08 and i won 4-0 and also scored crazy goals never though possible.

its not the most scientific of explanations but its proof enough for me which game is more arcade vs simulation. maybe we need to have a yellowfever fifa vs pes comp....

so yes you are a one eyed pes fan. im not in favour of either franchise but its so obvious fifa is the better game this year. every aspect is just more polished; player movements, graphics, even down to crowd reaction and replays.

haha are you rupert murdoch in disguise?
selecting the one line that fits your cause isnt the way to go. if i were one eyed, i wouldnt have played FIFA.. in actual fact i started playing FIFA to begin with.

but i do agree that certain aspects are much better ( crowd reaction, replays, naming rights, menu options (to an extent)), but thigs like the physics, movements and controlling capacity and options from master league to formation settings are the best in PES.

but, it does seems that we will have to agree to disagree as the fifa v pes battle is one that will never be won im afraid.

Here is a review off Gamezone.com

FIFA 08 review
Another year, another FIFA' as the saying goes. EA rarely put out a new FIFA game without drastically changing either the game modes or the play system, fearing criticism that could arise from a lack of innovation. There's no shortage of new modes, gimmicks and promises that the ball physics have been calculated by a man with a brain twice the size of Stephen Hawkin's mega frontal lobe.

PES 2008 review
Pro Evolution Soccer has always been the game of choice for those who seek a fast, in-depth and remarkably accurate version of football which can be played until the next instalment arrives and tweaks the formula, striving for perfection every year. PES 2008 on PS3 feels familiar but looks next-gen the perfect combination. It's the game that PS3 owners have been crying out for, starved of any decent sports games which aren't based around popular American sports.

i honestly cannot understand how anyone can think pes gamepley is better this time around. but each to their own and i feel sorry for the diehards who can't move past the 'fifa vs pes' mentality.

this is from a review from gamespot about pes08:

"the fast pace now makes Pro Evo feel more like an arcade game than a simulation"
"The PlayStation 3's online offering is completely unplayable due to unacceptable lag and frequent disconnections that affected every single game we played"
"PES 2008's graphics are all over the place. The PlayStation 3 version has the appearance of an upscaled PlayStation 2 game, and apart from fewer jagged edges, there's little to show off the new console's power"
"Most critically, the game features an unacceptable level of slowdown in both online and offline play. It makes you wonder what Shingo Takatsuka and his team have been doing for the last year, and it's bound to infuriate the many people who've been waiting for a PlayStation 3 version of the game. "

pes is so much better than fifa. The gameplay in fifa is average where as with pes it so much more realistic it actually takes more strategy to score goals unlike fifa where you just randomly pass the ball around and score an easy goal
