Thought I'd start this thread up to prepare for a draft for the new season. I'm going to post a large amount of info in this thread, so please don't comment until I have posted 5 posts which I will then edit to include information.

Our Draft

I will start this at Midday NZ Time Friday 8th May.

Selections will be made in this thread

Each pick will have a 24hr time limit (If this is taking too long I will drop it to 12hrs)

If you send me an email to jono (DOT) newton (At) mail of the google (dot) Com I'll send you an email as soon as I see the pick before you, with a time for your pick to be due (As a reminder), alternatively follow me on twitter and I will post the picks there as well.

Remember this is a ROOKIE draft, so we will be only selecting rookies, I will do my best to have a comprehensive list in Post 3 of this thread, but I make no promises on having everyone.

Best of Luck.

Right I'll start adding Players here today, I assume we'll start with Jameis Winston, but really not sure on the off field issues, but without a doubt he IS the best QB in this draft.

La'el Collins is now asking to be pushed to supplemental draft, obviously cause if drafted today later his value is hugely reduced.
Whereas could get bigger contract later.

It's brilliant right. I think I've said it elsewhere, but if he can clean up off the field he is going to be a very good pocket passer, but I am not sure if he can.

Yep, was swearing at the box when I heard his name come out.  With a bit of luck I might get another season of production from Tre as their top guy while they take a cautious approach to Gurley's ACL tear.

I don't get it, probably to me one of the stupid moves of the first round. Jets taking Williams is the other one, two teams with big needs in other places taking players where they were already ok, and in the Rams case it's a back with a history of injury.

Quarterbacks Taken/Undrafted

Round/Pick Player Team My Thoughts
1.1 Jameis Winston Tampa Bay Buccaneers Got some awesome WRs to throw the ball to, should be the best of the young QBs, but look to him needing an OLine improvement
1.2 Marcus Mariota Tennessee Titans Got to do some work to be to get used to the NFL. And no real targets, could be interesting here.
3.11 Garrett Grayson New Orleans Saints And here is Drew Brees replacement, whether next season or 2017 he will be the next starter in New Orleans if he develops as expected
3.12 Chris Conley Kansas City Chiefs Um so Alex Smith back-up, not heard much about Conley, but won't be starting.
3.25 Sean Minion St. Louis Rams I don't know what to think, had him ranked really low in the QBs, but I guess he will get a chance to develop behind Foles to be the next QB in Los Angeles.
4.4 Bryce Petty New York Jets And there is the Jets next starter (Well after Ryan Fitzpatrick takes this year :P), pretty sure Fitzmagic beats out Geno, then Petty in next year or 2017.
5.11 Brett Hundley Green Bay Packers And the Packers select their 2020 starter. Expect Hundley to sit and develop behind Aaron Rodgers, the same as he did behind Favre
7.33 Trevor Siemiam Denver Broncos Taken as the last QB off the board, he will join a bunch of other QBs in Denver Zac Dysert taken last year, and Brock Osweiller the season before currently on the team, they are clearly looking for their Peyton replacement.
Undrafted  All comments about UDFAs should probably be ignored, I have never heard of most of them.

Ryan Williams Cincinnati Bengals Not to be confused with Ryan Williams Injury prone RB
Tyler Murphy Pittsburgh Steelers AFC North want UDFA QBs
Kevin Rodgers Houston Texans Could he replace Ryan mallet?
Bryan Bennett Indianapolis Colts OMG Andrew Luck is screwed this guy is awesome.
Cody Fajardo Oakland Raiders What a name, this guy has it locked up
Cole Stoudt San Diego Chargers Could he be starting in los Angeles next year after Rivers quits?
Anthony Boone Detroit Lions Clearly needing Camp Bodies the Lions signed 2 QBs
Brandon Bridge Detroit Lions

Clearly needing Camp Bodies the Lions signed 2 QBs

Taylor Heinke Minnesota Vikings With Cassel & Ponder gone the Vikes needed a QB3, here is your guy. Has a chance to make he roster.
Connor Halliday Washington Redskins Theey sign the local boy, a camp body no chance in the battle.
Dylan Thompson San Francisco 49ers Camp bodies, keep the bench warm

Running Backs Taken

Draft/Round Player Team My Thoughts
1.10 Todd Gurley St. Louis Rams Well bye bye Tre Mason, Gurley will be the Day 1 starter in St. Louis. Look at them to start running the ball a lot this season. (Had ACL injury, could be an issue)
1.15 Melvin Gordon San Diego Chargers Not unexpected as their starter was now Oliver, look to Gordon to be strong going forward.
2.4 TJ. Yeldon Jacksonville Jaguars Really more of a Fullback than RB, but was called as a RB so expect him to battle with Gerhart for touches in the backfield.
2.22 Ameer Abdullah Detroit Lions I have to think he is the #1 in Detroit. Joique Bell is a change of pace guy, and I picked up Riddick when Bush left as someone has to carry the load, that is not Bell, so Look to Abdullah to start
3.9 Tevin Coleman Atlanta Falcons Should fall in as the #2 behind Freeman in Atlanta, expect him to share back-up/3rd down carries with Smith this season, probably a bigger role in 2016 as he is clearly a better back and Antone Smith will go back to just doing speed stuff.
3.13 Duke Johnson Cleveland Browns Umm yeah I don't even know with this one, the Browns already have Crowell & West, so they add another guy, just makes the backfield more confusing.
3.22 David Johnson Arizona Cardinals I don't actually know much about this guy, but expect him to play more as a back-up to Ellington than challenge him for the starters job. Probably share the carries through parts of he season.
3.31 Matt Jones Washington Redskins Will probably take the Roy Helu role as back-up/change of pace behind Alfred Morris
4.7 Jeremy Langford Chicago Bears I would not be surprised to see him redshirted this season, but I think this is the Bears preparing for a future without Matt Forte, he will battle with Carey for the back-up and then future role (THOUGH I think Carey should win that).
4.9 Jalston Fowler Tennessee Titans A Fullback for the Titans, I would guess this is help for Sankey. A nice young line-up in Tennessee with Mariota, Sankey & now Fowler. I expect a lot of FB blocking roles for support here.
4.26 Javouris Allen Baltimore Ravens Depth behind Forsett and some cover in case of injury
4.27 Mike Davis San Francisco 49ers I don't understand the 49ers RB strategy this season, since they lost Gore they have added Reggie Bush & Jarrad Hayne to Carlos Hyde, Kendall Hunter, Alfonso Smith & Philip Tanner, some of these guys aren't making the roster.
5.2 David Cobb Tennessee Titans Well there is the competition for Bishop Sankey as well, could be an interesting battle, especially with Mariota, Green-Beckham, and a Fullback, going to be fun.
5.13 Jay Ajayi Miami Dolphins Talk of issues with the medical side of things around his knee. Is a Power back, not sure whether he will end as the lead back, but could take that role for sure.
5.19 Karlos Williams Buffalo Bills Would look to him as a good solid back-up for LeSean McCoy, probably not right away, but lets see.
5.32 Mike Burton Detroit Lions There is the Lions Fullback He should help their runners get some more space in there.
5.38 Cameron Artis-Payne Carolina Panthers Should battle with Fozzie & Todman to be Stewart's back-up in Carolina, could be profitable if Stewart gets injured.
6.29 Josh Robinson Indiannapolis Colts Will most likely be the 3rd back here behind Gore & Herron, with a shot to move up after Gore retires (Probably 2016), surprises me how far Ballard has fallen since he did his aerobatic TD
6.30 Aaron Ripkowski Green Bay Packers There is the end of the Kuhn era in Green Bay
7.13 Joey Isofa Tampa Bay Buccaneers A late Fullback, another chance to protect their backs.
7.13 Marcus Murphy New Orleans Saints A late pick adds another runner in NO
7.18 Kenny Hillard Houston Texans Pretty low tating for me, think he is about 4th on the depth chart.

I'll have a look at the WRs/TEs a little later, but have covered the majority of QBs & RBs so far. Hope there is some help for people who have needs at different positions.

As soon as ESPN re-opens the league pages I will increase out team sizes up (By 7 or so positions, may just make it to a 5 or 0 ending), to allow for some extras, once I do I will let you know the drop dates and how many players you can have at each date, this won't have me actually decreasing the size of the bench, but will allow for you to have movement, every Thursday before kick-off you will need to be under the number or I will cut the last added player from your bench.

Rnd. Pick  NFL team Player My Thoughts
1 4 Oakland Raiders Amari Cooper A very great receiver for the Raiders, should give Carr a #1 target
1 7 Chicago Bears Kevin White The receiver with the best QB of the top guys, will partner Jeffery very well
1 14 Miami Dolphins DeVante Parker Parker joins Landry in a huge 1-2 punch for the Fins, with Stills as a third option this is a massive receiving team
1 20 Philadelphia Eagles Nelson Agholor A nice fast guy for the Eagles, should be another good option for them
1 26 Baltimore Ravens Breshard Perriman A straight Torrey Smith replacement for the Ravens
1 29 Indianapolis Colts Phillip Dorsett Ummm I don't know where he fits in, maybe as the replacement for Andre Johnson in 2016? Andre3000, TY Hilton, Moncrief etc
2 37 New York Jets Devin Smith A nice Receiver for the Jets, should start as their third option behind Marshall & Decker, a pretty reasonable Receiving corps now.
2 40 Tennessee Titans Dorial Green-Beckham One of the huge pre-draft stars, he lands with a Rookie QB as the Titans continue to rebuild their offense from back to front.
2 41 Carolina Panthers Devin Funchess Another player in the Kelvin Benjamin mold. should be pretty nice to see him getting the ball from Cam Newton
3 69 Seattle Seahawks Tyler Lockett Another 3rd round option for the Hawks, expect to see him get some play as they always share the ball around.
3 70 Tennessee Titans Jaelen Strong Another WR to the Titans, they added 3 through the draft to ensure that Mariota has some weapons.
3 87 Pittsburgh Steelers Sammie Coates The Steelers also add a midround WR, will be hoping to add another option for Big Ben to throw the ball to.
3 94 Green Bay Packers Ty Montegomery Rodgers 4th target is named, will fall in behind the others as another option.
4 105 Washington Redskins Jamison Crouder A mid rounder to Washington, I know nothing about most of the guys after here, will be #3 at best, probably lower.
4 107 Atlanta Falcons Justin Hardy Is this guy the future for Falcons, steps in to replace Harry Douglas and hopefully pair with Julio once Mr White retires?
4 123 Cleveland Browns Vince Mayle Browns finally took a reciever, seems to fit with the rest of their #3 Receivers.
4* 132 San Francisco 49ers DeAndre Smelter 49ers add a late mid round guy.
5 139 Jacksonville Jaguars Rashad Greene Another Jags option?
5 146 Minnesota Vikings Stefan Diggs The Vikings took a WR at the place I would've as well. We didn't have a need for a #1, we have Wallace & Charles Johnson, Patterson & Wright are there as well, it is possible for the Vikes to compete and this adds another player who looks awesome with ball in his hands.
5 156 Miami Dolphins Tony Lippett ?
5 159 Arizona Cardinals JJ Nelson Haha a third J.Nelson into the league at WR.
5* 175 Houston Texans Keith Mumphery Is this guy going to have a chance to replace Andre Johnson?
5 162 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Kenny Bell Will have time to develop here.
6 184 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Clay Kaelin Another WR for the Buccs as they look to give Winston weapons.
6 186 New York Giants Geremy Davis OMG seriously the spelling of these names annoys me.
6 187 Washington Redskins Evan Spencer Oh an Evan replacement for Washington (OUT with Royster!)
6 201 St Louis Rams Bud Sasser He's their Bud.
6 204 Baltimore Ravens Darren Waller Now I am just making crap up
7 220 Jacksonville Jaguars Neal Stirling A sterling selection for the Jags
7 221 Oakland Raiders Andre Debose Who?
7 233 Kansas City Chiefs Da'Ron Brown
7 234 Buffalo Bills Dezmin Lewis
7 238 Cincinnati Bengals Mario Alford
7 245 Tennessee Titans Tre McBride

Tight Ends

Rnd. Pick # NFL team Player Comments
2 55 Baltimore Ravens Maxx Williams The highest rated TE in the draft was the first off the board, should be the best of the Rookies by a long way as he gets a big role in a pretty empty TE depth chart.
3 68 Oakland Raiders Clive Walford Rated the #2 TE in the draft, he was second off the board, Mychal Rivera a sometime fantasy darling is ahead of him to start with, but he has a chance to take that spot.
3 85 Cincinnati Bengals Tyler Kroft Not considered a good blocker, but given the history of TEs in Cincinnati I don't even know here, they selected a blocking TE later, but they have drafted a lot of TEs in recent times.
3 92 Denver Broncos Jeff Heuermann Was mostly used as a blocking TE, BUT has the potential to be a good receiving TE, could be a fit for the Broncos as a Julius Thomas replacement depending on how they use him.
4 117 San Francisco 49ers Blake Bell Listed as 4th best TE, he is a great receiver, but in the NFL he will need to learn to block a lot better, he is likely to be a receiving option for Kaepernick from early in his career.
5 143 Minnesota Vikings MyCole Pruitt A blocker with a chance for crossing routes, has good hands, but no speed or size to get down the field. - Worst spelling of Michael I have EVER seen.
5 157 Cincinnati Bengals CJ. Uzmoah Definitely a blocking TE, I presume this is the Bengals drafting a pair of TEs to help them out in the future.
5 160 Pittsburgh Steelers Jesse James The Steelers fans seem to see him as a Heath Miller replacement but he doesn't have the skills from what I have  seen, he can block well, but he seems to be s developmental prospect who lacks speed, could get there eventually, but not right away, should've taken O'Leary.
5* 171 Baltimore Ravens Nick Boyle Gets the back-up role in Baltimore, is another good option for Flacco. Also listed more as blocking TE, he will probably be the compliment to Williams more receiver type role.
5* 173 Kansas City Chiefs James O'Shaunessey Actually struggling to find facts on this guy.
6 194 Buffalo Bills Nick O'Leary One of my favourite TEs in the class (PS. I spent some time investigating TEs as it is a position I really need in Dynasty), a real clutch catch guy, is a bit small for a TE normally, but has speed (Ran a bit slow at the combine), and can move around, expect to see him in the slot, at Halfback and as a pass catching TE for the Bills (The 'Spiller' role). In saying that I hate the place he landed given that he will be stuck behind Charles Clay.
6 195 Cleveland Browns Malcolm Johnson With Back to back picks (195 & 198) the Browns selected a pair of TEs. The first one was Malcolm Johnson, who has been listed as a Fullback (Very low rating) by most, but can also play HB & TE, he is expected to be mostly a blocker for the Browns, but he can do some crazy stuff with the ball as well.
6 198 Cleveland Browns Randall Telfer A second TE for the Browns, this guy is definitely a TE, and mostly a blocker, can catch the ball, but expect him mostly to be blocking for the runners.
6 202 New England Patriots AJ Derby I lack info, but lots of TEs in New England.
6* 210 Green Bay Packers Kennard Backman Another Late round Green bay pick, watch training camp to see how this goes.
7 229 Jacksonville Jaguars Ben Koyack A reasonably average prospect, but will be only a back-up so no real issue here.
7 246 Dallas Cowboys Geoff Swaim ?
7* 254 San Francisco 49ers Busta Anderson He's actually a Busta.
7* 256 Arizona Cardinals Gerald Christian Mr Irrelevant, 100% chance he is off the team before the 53 man cuts,

Well all ready to go from this end. Just waiting for ESPN.com to open up their fantasy pages again so I can send an email to everyone in the league advising that we are starting drafting. Will send an email out, and give three options for drafting, prefered is Picking in this thread, but will allow email/tweet to me (jono (dot) newton (at) The mail of the huge search engine (dot) com) (twitter handle in my profile, but is just my username here)

So without further ado...Frankie Mac & the London Hammers you are ON the CLOCK! (Admittedly this time will not start ticking down until I can send the email out :P)

Yep think its fairly obvious what I'm after.

Also open to a late trading of my pick if someone is desperate for it.

Nah all good, but you can start the draft by picking which player you wanted :) (Rookies only)

See I am tempted to try and move up, but I think of everyone above me, you are the only one who doesn't need what I could offer...(I really want a Top 5-6 pick though for my plans sake.

Could also be interested in trading up depending on how the first few picks shake out. Will get in contact with the owner of the Usos to let him know when he's on the clock

Ok...so bascailly when we're ready for the draft, the ESPN site will be active and we go in and make our picks (or preferred picks) and go from there?

I think I really need to see who's on who's team before thinking of trading spots - hopefully the ESPN site will open soon.

I'll also apologise in advance in case I'm a bit tardy with my picks or responding to trade offers.  I should be able to put my picks in within the 24 hour deadline, but if we move to 12 hours I might struggle.  My phone is the cheapest of cheap and has very little internet capability.  Most websites I go to at work are blocked (fortunately not this one though) so I'll likely do most of my stuff from home at night.

So by Rookies. That's all the players just been done in the latest NFL draft from college football eh? Guess I should do some study

Correct. Some lists above, as we are only taking 51 total it is unlikely there will be many not in the above lists.

If anyone wants some help about players give me a yell and I can give you some rundowns on some of them (I admit to not knowing as much as I should given a lack of watching College ball, but can help with their chance at time on the team they have gone too and an idea of what role they might play given I started watching draft coverage in January :P

All good, we will only drop to 12hrs if we have issues getting this done before August :P

Ok - been tossing this one around for a week or so now, but finally settled on Amari Cooper.
