News Item Punnery

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

19 Mar 03:35 · edited 09 Sep 05:55
For those of you that never visit our front page we have a bit of an ongoing giggle with the images we attach to news items.

I thought they were worth a thread...just for laughs.

In the news today, Hard News has ignored the obvious Jordan pun and gone for a much less racy flag option.

I have gone for some pretty boring sheep and cow alternatives for my Taranaki football stories and Greenie has gotten desperate and used the McCain fries logo for the story about re-signing big John.

So here's your chance...are we funny...are we lame?  You be the judge.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

There's a front page?

Three for me, and two for them.

You think Micheal Jordan is racy?  Learn something new every day...

I love the images, the cheesier the better.

As cheesy as is absolutely possible.

I'm probably not the best judge of humour, but I like them. I enjoyed the flag joke, but then I like geography and maps and flags and stuff. Like I said, I'm not the best judge of anything really.

Front page image punnery is top shelf.
Long may it continue as trademark Yellow Fever-style humour.
Cracks me up!

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Agreed. Always enjoy trying to work out the connection on some of the 'odder' ones.

The participation certificate for Waikato FC was clever, by the way.

I actually quite liked the recent poll punnery. News items can be funny too sometimes.

They are great; I was kinda thinking about starting a thread on it ...

I have always liked them and some of those articles are an excellent read. Yes, you do have a sense of humour and yes, it is appreciated.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I don't get the latest one though.  Some random blonde woman.  Is she meant to be a Dane (blonde hair and blue eyes (from memory)) while it talks about Reid - or am I missing it entirely.
You cant just pick and choose which laws to follow. Sure Id like to tape a baseball game without the express written consent of major league baseball, but thats just not the way it works.-Hank Hill

In my defence she's not really a great actress, but agreed, my game needs lifting more than Evan Bergers.

Next I'll be expected to recognize David Spade.

Has anyone ever seen 'British Balls' magazine from Australia? It is usually found at backpacker hostels and is to update Brits on news from back home. It is truly great at photo and news item punnery.

One that I recall is a story about Ozzy Osbourne - the accompanying photo was of WWE's The Undertaker!

Some good football ones too but I can't remember any. If anyone is over in Oz, try and get a hold of a copy, they are great. I think they are weekly too.

It's good, love what you guys did with Greenacre, Personal Favourite.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Love it, far more amusing than just sticking the images from the actual articles on there.

Probably be a good call for the Dompost to follow suit. Im sick of sad ladies and grumpy criminals (otherway round?) in the papers. YFs is better. Also like how its always up to date. Good work!

I'm going to tell my editor that we should have piss take photos to go in our paper alongside stories. Hmmm, mining in the Coromandel...
