I just hope for fewer than 3 red cards.

Tahiti got thumped 7-0 by Chile U20 in a friendly yesterday. It could be really ugly at the Confeds.

I thought I read that they had won a game prior to that. Yes, yes it will be rather ugly. I remember talking to someone at Oceania six months ago saying where is the lead up games against international opposition for them and why isn't Oceania helping them out with games (excluding WC qualifiers).

They beat UDC U20s (who were without their national U20 players) and a second division team.
Chile U20s are getting ready for the U20 World Cup, Tahiti really had no chance against them.

Whats the odds on Spain thrashing Australia's world record thumping of American Samoa?

I'd get on it.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Permalink Permalink

I seriously doubt that, seeing as Spain are boring to watch. And don't play with a striker.

Probably be 1-0.

Permalink Permalink

American Samoa are another whole level below Tahiti. The likes of Fiji and New Caledonia often put 8 or so goals past them

Tahiti will be pumped by at least 5-6 id say. Dont see teams pushing for embarrassment

You seem really determined to see Spain absolutely piss all over them.

Personally i hope Tahiti do well.

This.  They are there because they deserve to be - it is not their fault we fucked the whole thing up.  Instead of looking petty we should be hoping they do well

Oh, the way I feel about Tahiti is completely because of the manner Tahiti conducted themselves in the Stage 3 qualifier against us in Christchurch. Their actions were disgraceful, and have no place in football at all.

This has nothing to do with our failure at the Nations Cup at all, because as you said, it's not their fault that we fucked up against NC.

Yeah, I think teams may ease off after securing the points.
Could be interesting if goal difference becomes important in the final round, that's when things could get really embarrasing.

Yeah, was going to mention that. Nigeria and Uruguay would be expecting to fight it out for the 2nd spot in the group - if their game is a draw and they both lose to Spain it would come down to GD. Nigeria have Tahiti first up and Uruguay have Tahiti last, I would imagine that Nigeria could go for the throat in that first game not knowing how things are going pane out.

Group A is the group of death any of the four teams can qualify for the semis., but Group B Uruguay and Spain will reach the semis.

Everyone in the group is going to be well aware of how goal difference could be vital, so would expect everyone to hit Tahiti for six from the start.

Thanks for that i won't bother watching it now.

Three for me, and two for them.

Uruguay have been struggling a lot lately, to be fair.

Wish we were in confeds cup. NZ v Nigeria would have been a nice game to watch.

Only for the Nigerian supporters.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Meh. African football is average. They all bundle out early on at the world cup, except maybe 1 who might get to the final 8.

Nigeria coming back from the wilderness relatively speaking - 18 years since they were last in the Confeds Cup. Not one of the best teams in Africa for a while now.

Even now, only one player in their squad, John Obi Mikel, who's a household name - a handful of others at top European clubs. Some at smaller clubs in Portugal, Israel etc. and half the squad play in Nigeria.

They're arriving in Brazil day before their game with Tahiti after players went on strike over unpaid bonuses.

Even losing 2-1 or 1-0 would be a victory

Permalink Permalink

Any loss by 3 or less would be a major achievement.

Doesn't look like Sky are showing the confederations cup...unless someone knows better...oh well I guess watching 100 replays of the all blacks is far more exciting :(

Spain just beat the might of Haiti 2-1...so you might not be too far off...although Haiti have also played Italy and came back from two goals down to draw 2-2, so they might not be too bad, probably far better than Tahiti...reality is that someone could hit double figures vs Tahiti

No coverage on sky for today's opening game.  Brazil won 3-0 over Japan.

Permalink Permalink

Didn't see the Italian game other than the goals this morning. But the Spain game was a really good game. Spain look so much better with a winger and a striker. Uruguay not in it at all until Spain eased up in the second half, and Suarez scored a wonder goal right near the end.

Then you have players like Isco, Illarramendi, Iñigo Martinez, Koke in the U-21's coming through... And then players such as Oliver Torres and Jese Rodriguez in the U-20's. It's mental.

Anyone got a live stream for the Tahiti game?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

If Nigeria took this half-seriously, it'd be 6-0 by now.
