Germany v Argentina final, anyone?

Not too likely considering they'll meet in the quarter-finals if they top their groups.

Anybody else notice our first game in '06 was against the Japanese, our first game this time is against Germany, and we got knocked out last time by the Italians?

Axis conspiracy if you ask me. Next they'll all be getting back together.

Don't forget 1974, also up against the Germans first (and second!)

It should also be noted that in both our previous World Cup appearances, we lost to the overall winner.
Almost feel like supporting Germany now, so this record is maintained!

I don't mind the Germans ordinarily, but I have to admit their comments before the game pissed me off somewhat. It's all very well to be the over-whelming favourite but you can have a little bit of grace about it. Now, to quote Churchill, I just want to see someone teach them a lesson that they'll never forget.

I have to admit I got laugh out of this comment from a lad on the SFCU forum. Considering he's Australian et al.

Australia's ability to be bad winners is exceeded only by their ability to be terrible losers.

You play without a striker and without the talent and/or discipline to get forward from midfield then what hope have you got. To do it against a side of Germany's quality (however surprising that quality might be to you) is naive. Verbeek screwed up monumentally. Wrong players, wrong system.

442 rate him as the best defender in their defence on this performance...Hope Verbeek has the balls to say I got it wrong, and completely change his plans...Ruka vysta looked ok I thought...

Pim might be able to change his plans...

..if he had selected players that are able to play a different gameplan, and had tried out a different gameplan sometime.

But no, he left Scott McDonald at home because he doesn't fit plan A.

I want him to to to Turkey, because at leastthen  we won't have to suffer his presence whenever Blackburn play next season.

Yeah, a lot of crocodile tears shed with Grella's injury and Cahill's suspension I am sure

Grella + Cahill = Karma.
I'm never happy when players get injured as I've been there and it's a sad situation.
But what really pissed me off about Grella was that after his murderous challenge against Leo, he still had the guts to swear at the ref saying it was bullsh*t that he got yellow-carded.

if any of you guys are familiar with ancient Greece, I think he sinned of UBRIS. Serves him well I say.

Cahill was a bit unfortunate to be sent off, but he should've known better.

The only way the Aussies would have scored against Germany:

I wish Ricki had Pim's motivational skills! -

"'Have a look who he [Loew] can bring in without weakening his team, look at his bench,'' Verbeek said. ''I have Rukavytsya, who wasn't good enough for FC Twente second team. Because I don't have any better, I have to use him as a substitute. That is the reality"

Gold - the Aussies are claiming they've been cheated out of the World Cup by an Italian again. It was a hand ball on the line stop cheating and you'll stop getting red cards!

Nothing unlucky about the red card, it was a great call by the ref (who is one of the better in Europe anyway).

I found it funny they wanted the ref to watch the replay on the big screen, as if he would then change his mind!

Anyway, they should've scored that sitter near the end and they'd still be in with a shout.

Cracked me up to, the way they were protesting I was thinking "oh no, the refs cocked it up and it has hit him in the chest" then the replay comes up and its blatantly hit him in the arm!

Where do you get 'the Aussies are claiming they have been cheated out of the World Cup by an Italian again'
That is a lie and you know it.
I have watched heaps of TV channels, heard radios today and NOT one said anything of the sort. All the ex socceroos on TV have all said it was a penalty and only one thought that a red was a harsh call. The rest thought that a red was the only call the ref could make.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Check out 4-4-2, all but 2 people believe they were robbed, and just under half seem to believe there is either a conspiracy by Italy or FIFA to get rid of the socceroos.

Here if you dare

They are still in with a chance though in their other 2 games. No one would really have expected them to beat the Huns [except their fans]. Ill reserve final judgement until after their next game

Can't see it. Their morale will have taken a hammering, they are without their best performed player for the must-win Ghana match and structurally from front to back they are a total mess. The wheels have been wobbling on the Socceroo jalopy for a long time now - they are about to come flying off I reckon.
A better showing and they are in with a shout. Results have been all over the place so nothing will surprise me.

There are articles of a conspiracy in the newspapers too.  And lots of comments about the sending off being too harsh, saying that it was not intentional, that Kewell couldnt avoid it, however i think he could have and he moved intentionally.

For all that I would like to see them do ok in the last game, and keep this part of the world in the spotlight ... make that further in the spotlight

I know we love to beat the Aussies whenever we get half a chance but I don't really want to see them lose against others. I hope they can pull through from here. It might take a miracle but I'm hoping for one for them.

That was 2 players and they have already been well found out on the world stage. I'm hoping for the rest of the team and region that they do ok.

Good to see us getting support by plenty of papers and people over there too
