Lampard was playing as a holding mid. That's why he was deep. Him and Gerrard can't both go forward.
Yeah I was just saying he played too deep anyway. Hopefully with Barrys return both can get forward.

Green made a shocking error, but he also saved Englands skin in the second half.
Players not on song- Lampard(never players well for England) Rooney, Heskey.
England should have and could have won by 2/3.
Will still go through top.

Could also have lost quite easily. Aside from the first 5 minutes, the US bossed the first half. England better in the second, but the draw was a fair outcome in the end.

US have a good chance to top the group now too - it could come down to goal difference, England had better get a couple of the forwards into goal-scoring form.

If England comes second a showdown with Germany in the last 16 beckons. Would be a win-win situation for me.

Am a bit puzzled by some of the comments on this match ending in a draw. In the May ranking (FWTW) England are 8 and USA 14....    They are pretty even....   so to my mind a draw is not, as one radio journalist put it, a "SHOCK" ....   Mmmmm
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Someone at work this morning, who knows bugger-all about football, said to me "That was a bit of a shock, England only drawing with the US, I mean, they hardly even play soccer over there, do they".
It's still the layman's perception of the sport in the US, a myth perpetuated by lazy or ignorant media. That's one of the reasons it's hard to take any NZ media coverage of the World Cup seriously, the vast majority of people writing about it and reporting on it don't know a bloody thing.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

... and by the American media in general, especially the right wing, who have written entire books suggesting that one of the signs of the US of A's greatness is that "nobody"* plays that gay, European, low-scoring, socialist game, soccer.

How does the US have any better chance of topping the group than England?

US are good on attack and at the moment Englands problem is not oppositions defense but just clicking up front. USAs problem was not the clicking factor but Englands defense did enough to keep them out. Against Algeria and Slovenia this will be alot easier.

Hmm, if you watch that shot and save again, if it had gone in the net after he got his hands to it, instead of hitting the post Green would of been crucified for not doing better.

It was a sheer fluke it hit the post instead of the back of the net

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Not saying they have a better chance - but considering the balance of power in this group, it's very conceivable that both England and USA will have 7 points at the end of first round, and goal difference could determine the group winner.

That's why I said the English need to get more from their frontline if they don't want to play Germans in the second round.

It seems someone has taken the time to recreate the goals from the game, with Lego men.

Germans responsible for that Lego stuff do it regularly (after each game) with one of the Bundesliga teams (can't remember which one was it? Hamburger SV, FC Nuerenburg? Not sure at the moment, sorry), plus some important football occasions - i.e. World Cup or Champions League.
