More from the Robbie Keane is a hypocrite files:

From a match report:

A long ball found its way to Robbie Keane who seemed to control the ball with his hand only for the referee to let play continue. The ball was then cleared but only as far as Kevin Doyle as it deflected off the Waterford man and into the path of Ucha Lobjanidze. The referee then gave a shrill blast of his whistle for what appeared to be an offside by Keane.

Instead to everyones surprise, Hyytia pointed to the penalty spot and deemed Lobjanidze to have handled the ball. Replays showed that Keane had handled the ball in the lead-up to this decision and that Keane was also offside as play continued.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf9fx4ipF4Q&feature=player_embedded

Did Robbie Keane tell the ref it wasn't a penalty? Of course he didn't. Robbie Keane scored it and celebrated.

Edit: I should credit this to Arseblogger before Ubergunner finds out.

Saw the Roy Keane rant on TV last night and then read about it in SST today.

I just kept thinking the chant: "Keano. He w@nks his dog Keano, he w@nks his dog keano."

Feel very sorry for the Irish, but never really expected a replay. Henry however is a dirty, cheating tw@t.

Yes. But the man speaks the truth.

He's right about the phone bit. No f**king manners anymore. No f**king respect.

Second greatest midfielder ever to play in the Premiership.

Second to who? Viera or Gerrard? Yeah, he's right. Can't stand him though.

People often say that but it's usually not really the case. They don't follow it because they just don't like it / ain't a fan for whatever reason. Just not their cup of tea. They say that's the reason to justify their feelings on Football.

You can shut any rugby tragic up on this issue by saying "Andy Haden, Cardiff Arms Park, 1978".

Haden became a national hero for diving out of a lineout, winning a penalty that was then slotted to beat Wales.

Disturbingly I think I recall Brian McKechnie was the kicker.

I know you aren't one to let the truth get in the way of a good bit of rugby bashing News but the penalty was actually awarded for a push at the front of the lineout, not for the guy pushing Hayden.
Keith Quinn tells a great story about how McKechnie was out on the piss with him the night before that game as he wasn't even going to be on the bench but then couply injuries and he wins us a grand slam.

But back to the topic, I'm with Keane. It was a c**ty thing to do and sucked balls for Ireland but thems the breaks I guess.
Best part was it kept Football as the lead story in the media all week!

I agree with what Keane said, and I'm not surprised he said it. A man who freely admits he went out to deliberately hurt an opponent is highly unlikely to climb on the moral high ground and start w**king on about sportsmanship, is he?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Actually, if you check my past record Benji I'm pretty neutral on the whole thing recently.  I generally stay out of it.  In this case I was merely answering a question.  Hayden Pushed ?  Please.  Christiano Ronaldo is more convincing.

Henry should be banned for the entire World Cup for bringing the game in to disrepute.

Its no longer a problem.

If you ban every player who cheats then countries won't be able to field teams in the World Cup. I don't think a player should be treated differently if he affects the game from cheating 1 minute in the first game of qualifying, or if it's extra-time in the last game of qualifying. Also, you shouldn't ban someone because they did a handball and scored off it - as opposed to countless players who do handballs and don't score off it. I also don't think handball is a worse offence than diving, or a lot of the tackles you see in games, or teams that consistently pull shirts / kick the other team. The Henry thing looks terrible, but I don't think that's a reason to ban someone.

I didn't say ban him for the handball. I said ban him for bringing the game in to disrepute. His reaction at the time and his subsequent actions following is what I find dsrespectful to the sport as a whole.

Its no longer a problem.

Oh - right then. I haven't seen too much of his actions and comments. What in particular brought the game into disrepute? I'd be pretty careful though about banning players because of what they say. i don't all the players to be scared of what they say to the media.

TBF he's been up front and honest about it. What would have been first is if he went into denial mode.

The fact he dived is cheating enough, whether or not thats actually what was called in the end.
I believe the original comment about it was made more as a bit of a joke,as a shot back at someones mate "soccer bashing" about diving. Stop being so defensive bopman Tegal2009-11-24 22:57:48

Heaps of players bring the game in to disrepute. Where would suggest we draw the line?
He knows he made a bad error, but so do many players every week.
For all the years he has played--- how many times has he cheated? I can't think of one. The guy is class and does not deserve all this crap.

Graham Henry -

Created a rotation policy that made heaps of depth, because they choked it was apparently the rotation policies fault.

Now its gone - we have no depth.

When Henry played for Arsenal he never once took a penalty he won. He never ever wanted to be seen to profit from this or be accused of being a diver. his goal talley wopuld have been +50 or more if he had taken the penalties he won whislt at arsenal. I wouldnt be suprised if Henry had the WC of his life in SA and france won the thing now.

Fair call on drawing the line on disrepute.

Bad call on him being class. He used to be able to claim that status. After this blatant cheating incident, no impartial observer could say that with a straight face.

OK, if Dunne handballed to stop a goal with the score at 2-0 and Given saved the pen then he would have handballed to win the game (as did Henry) but would have no doubt received at least a 1 game ban. What will Henry get for (effectively) the same thing just not spotted immediatly.

Its no longer a problem.
