Plainly the clause is creating a perverse incentive where it is more favourable for Roy not to play.  I just cannot see the logic in such a clause for one of our top players, why is he on an incentivised deal??

I hate this shark! I always praised Roy's work ethic. If he fakes an injury's and we are loosing games, he can @#$%*&^%$#@. I know this tactics is common in football, still hate everyone doing and not sorting it out in the right way. I blame the Phoenix equally. Hope this is over very soon.

But appearance clauses only favour the player?  If the club wants to keep him you offer a new contract.  Cf exactly what is happening now and what happened with Lowry, Totori etc

but its weird right, prior to any offer from the nix we have Roy tweeting saying that he wants the club to make him an offer ie he wants to stay. He plays a couple more games and gets two away from triggering his automatic extension then gets injured. Assuming his desire to stay is in tact and the extension offer is worth triggering then surely he'd want to get on the park asap?

If however the extension clause is not worth what Roy and his agent think it should be then they need to have raised this and ask the nix to renegotiate - I'm all good with this. It appears now that the nix have made a decent offer which you would assume Roy would jump at given his previous desire to stay. Unless his manager is blowing smoke up his arse about making big bucks in the US or somewhere else.

Either way, Roy needs to make a decision now! The ball, so to speak, is at his feet and it is totally in his control to make the best decision for him, the club and the fans.

Unless what we think he's worth is way off from his valuation - if he wants to be earning marquee wages and we want to keep him below the cap then the clause favours us cos we get another year of him for cheaper.

How this is playing out shows pretty conclusively that the appearance clause doesn't just favour the player all the time.

I heard Roy is on the 2nd year of a much improved deal - hearing $250k a year.  I think weeMac is one of the top earners on something like $325k.

Prior to his new deal I think he was on $75k so was a big increase.  Assuming the extension is on the same money he is on now then it's not a crap deal but maybe he is wanting closer to what Wee Mac is getting.

If that's true then he has serious grounds to be pissed off, he's our best player!

Talk is he's asking for Kosta money and that was rumoured to be $750k on here (a reliable source I know).

He's not a $750k player.  He is a $250k player.  McGlinchey on this seasons form is a $3.75 player.

We signed WeeMac straight from Japan and immediately following on from a very successful few seasons at CCM. He was probably worth that money before we signed him but he's not living up to it.

Piney makes good straight forward sense in that article. I hope Roy reads it.

Piney's argument doesn't make any sense though if Roy is really faking an injury to not get the extension then it relies on both parties compromising.

if for some reason Roy is after stupidly high money like Kosta he really need to be streaks ahead of anyone in the club - he is the best play I'll agree but not but a massive margin - nor was Kosta and that failed so I can see why the club is hesitant to be throwing that kind of money around again.

Also having a whine and refusing to play isn’t exactly the best way to convince the club to risk paying that kind of money for you.

His Agent Rex Dawkins, did and replied to Piney on twitter claiming that Roy was available for the game at the weekend but just wasn't selected in the playing squad then said "make of that what you will"

I'd take anything from any agent with a large dose of salt, just like I would anything from a club on the other side of the debate.  It's all about PR and trying to force one side or another into a position.

The one thing they don't give a shark about is the impact on the supporters of a/the club.

I think that Darije said as he didn't train Friday he was not considered for match day squad?

Maybe this improved offer Piney mentioned is still lower than say what Newcastle want to pay him? If there is an extension clause and if he plays the two games he's then locked and misses out on said extra $$.

If he does go at the end of the season and doesn't play again this season hope they rake him over the coals via the employment court and make him at least pay back the money he's been paid whilst "injured" or refusing to play!

Someone mentioned that he'd been signed to Newcastle in one of the match threads, this was before the Colorado rapids thing came about.

I doubt he'd have signed for anyone with a contract in place with the nix.

Roy doesn't want to leave. Why? because Darije said during January that anyone who wants to leave can go. He's still here, so obviously he didn't want to go..............

Roy needs to look after number 1 - and I hope that means resigning with us.

But I agree with her, no point keeping a player who doesn't want to stay - it doesn't help anyone in the long term.

I disagree with this.  You can't always let players go whenever they want to - we have done that and look where it has gotten us.  It also ignores the fact that his contract expires at the end of the season so if he re-signs then he will have chosen to stay

what is the angst factor from the fans on his little 'injury' sulk blip? Little to none? Pin it on the club being dicks?

Handy that the injury cleared up just at the same time as he signed the extension, and allowed him to go back into the squad again...

No one is contracted past 18/19 are they? Apart from a couple of youth.

I'm wondering if that's for a reason...

I think he pulled a sulk, decided not to play but got a deal (I note only a 1 year). Unless he can now back it up on the pitch, it takes the shine off him maybe coming a Nix legend when he beats Ifills record.

Happy he re-signed but agree with others, this left a sour taste in my mouth as a fan.
