For all those calling out Suarez here, he took a bullet for his team even though he was aware of the risks, and i defy you to not do the same if you were put in that situation, you are lying if you say you wouldn't.

I agree. It made sense for him to do it, but it wasn't pretty. I reckon almost every player at the cup would have done the same, almost as a reflex.

Superb peno by Gyan given the pressure.

Three for me, and two for them.

With each goal the Uruguayan commentator goes nuts. Awesome!

Abreu scores. Uruguay win 4-2 on pens.

So gutted for Ghana

Gotta love the chip. Well done Uruguay, but I'm gutted for Ghana, they deserved to go through, especially after Suarez's lovely parry off the line. Footpaul2010-07-03 09:19:39

Sometimes football is so cruel that I almost f**king hate it.

Probably the best professional foul ever there by Suarez

In the end Ghana just werent mentally strong enough. Uraguay had the experience. Dont like that they can win like that, professional cheating

Go Holland, thats all I can say

Uruguay to be without Suarez and Fucile (who I thought was their best player) for their semi against the Dutch. I don't fancy their chances.

You would do the same in that situation, don't get all precious.

Besides, it was a quality save, i'd take Suarez as striker/backup keeper at Arsenal based on that

he would probably be no.1 if he was at arsenal

Ha yes he has good reactions

I wont ever be in that situation to know,  so I will be precious and hold the higher ground today

Besides i don't see how Ghana were robbed exactly. Suarez was sent off and Ghana had the chance to win it from the spot with the last kick of the match. Don't get me wrong i was hoping Ghana would win all match and feel gutted for them, especially Gyan, but it was in their hands and they (or he) blew it.

Hope the Dutchies turn on the style against them though.

+1 it was hard to watch their implosion. That penalty take makes Dadis one look better

Well it was going in until Suarez did his swat job. It was about to cross the line with everyone beaten. Then they have to try to get it over the line again, from further out, with an opponent who is able to use his hands to stop it. A certain goal taken away. Pretty good definition of robbery to me.

That said it is amazing how the games all seem to have plenty of drama happening, makes the whole World Cup really intriguing and interesting. Down to the last 8, and it is such a tight competition, you cant pick the winners very easily beforehand. Way more exciting than any other sport at quarterfinal level

They then got a penalty and had the chance to make it right. They blew it. Do you understand or should i translate it into another language for you?

Yes I know what you have said, they had a much harder chance and could have taken it, and couldnt,  but you dont get it either, from my point of view. I'm not going to get in a tiz about it

Swahili please if you have to

My point of view in Dutch:  Ze werden geroofd hepatitis2010-07-03 12:38:40

This. I challenge Mr Laws or any other rugby fanatic to show me a more exciting rugby game. I think they'd struggle. Both games this morning reflect why we love this game, and why it's the most popular game in the world. Roll on the next games!

Good on Uruguay as far as I'm concerned, and good on Suarez.  He took the hit for his side.  I love the hypocrisy on here, though, he had less than half a second before he had to react and people here think he should have gone over the latest edition of Ethics In Sport (by Chris Payne) and then made an informed decision about how he would act based on that - all before the ball reached him.  Pish posh, as someone else said, it could even have been almost a reflex movement in his desperation to help his side, without thinking much about it at all.  And let's be honest, everything worked out fairly.  Suarez was correctly dismissed and Ghana were correctly given a penalty - that's all the matters.  Gyan buggered it up and that's his fault and his alone.

I'm happy to see Uruguay make it to the Semi-final and may they wallop the Dutch mercilessly.*

*Can't see it happening.

well Suarez made a conscious decision to cheat. Handball is surely a hardwired rule for players in football. Handball is not contentious or an unknown

his side then won.

the positives for Uruguay is that was possibly their worst game of the tournament and they were missing their best 2 defenders. In that regard it is a fantastic result.I also felt that played some good attack, just a little small physically upfront. Aberu did make a difference here.

I feel sorry for Ghana. But missing a penalty in a WC quarter final is not an option at any time in the match , let alone 119 mins.

I think Uruguay would of preferred Brazil, but should not be overawed by Holland.

and finally I never backed Uruguay to win the Cup... lol ,I thought I was pushing it for the semis.
tournament wise we can still have two non previous winners in the hunt. Here's hoping eh?

Fair enough.  Still see it as no worse than any foul provided the ref handles it correctly.

Cant help but lose faith in football when the general concensus is that Suarez is a hero for deliberately stopping a goal with his hand.....

Allegedly

Yeah but if he hadnt of cheated it wouldve been a goal. There is always the chance of a miss on a penalty kick...Uruguay didnt even deserve that chance. You've gone and flipped it the wrong way, very terrible reasoning.

No one's calling him a hero here. Just stating a simple fact, he did what he had to to win, or give his side a chance of winning.

Oh, and football won't mourn your loss of faith if that is to be the case.

Three for me, and two for them.
