I would really, reall love it if Ghana can get up for this one.

They shouldn't need too much motivation to get 'up for it' per se, but that might not be enough to get past Uruguay unfortunately.

Three for me, and two for them.

Don't think Uruguay's that much better though - 2-3 good players in the front end of the park, the rest behind the ball trying to grind things out. Could go to extra time.

Go Ghana!
I like tautologies because I like them.

Damn Zonal Marking. Still haven't done a preview of this so no starting lineups as of yet.

Really relying on Ghana to rescue this WC for me.
You know we belong together...

Still no preview from ZM, major letdown. If anyone knows any other reliable website that posts starting lineups in picture form (similar to that in my NED-BRA thread) then let me know and i'll post it up, cheers.

Three for me, and two for them.

bit halfway house on this one
pleased Uruguay have been playing so well and winning me good$
a win for them in the morning is good news

but I'd like Ghana to win the World Cup... in lieu of Nigeria

also I think Uruguay can beat Brazil, where as I don't think Ghana can.

so fence sitter here

Extra incentive for these two teams now, knowing that the winner has the less daunting prospect of facing the Dutch rather than Brazil to get to the final. Maybe this is the African continent's chance to finally go all the way. *crosses fingers, touches wood, jangles rosary beads*

Mmmmmm . ..

Uruguay have never played Netherlands since the olympic football in 1924 and 1928.

And Ghana this year has been thrashed by Netherlands 4-1 over a month ago in a friendly. The only other friendly was in 1998 for a scoreless draw.

In contrast, Ghana lost 1-0 to Brazil in 2007 and 3-0 in 2006.

Uruguay haven't won against Brazil in the last six meetings, last won in 2001 in a home 1-0. The next win near that was in 1995.

So Brazil is not a wanted opponent, but then Netherlands is an unknown to Uruguay and Ghana still wouldn't want to face them. In one sense, it would be better to face the devil you know than the devil you don't know for Uruguay. So their future plans are more up in the air at the moment while they deal with this QF match first.

Tough one for me. Uruguay is my number two team, but I would love an African team to win it. I suppose whoever wins I want to go on and win the whole thing.

Yep, Ghana need to get a foothold here. Uruguay are slowly getting more threatening in the final third.

So 1-0 at half time. What a time for Ghana to score. A truly absorbing first half. Uruguay started off the better team but Ghana have settled into the match and are now dominating play and creating all the chances. We're in for a great second half i think.

Three for me, and two for them.

Bad keeping by Muslera on the goal

The keeper stepped right as Muntari shot. The ball curved, but the keeper didn't help his chances. Defenders should have closed him down though.

That goal jabulanied like crazy. Don't think the goalkeeper had much of a chance.
