I like them, they add a flavour to the finals. Its South Africas turn to host the world cup and if thats what their fans do at games so be it. I remember years ago people complaining about the incessant beating of drums at a previous world cup.
Bring them on I want more!!

Find somewhere really cold, take a chair, and sit there for awhile and think about what you've said.

I think it's bloody easy for people to say "oh embrace the culture", blowing a cheap plastic horn made in China is NOT CULTURE. Football is a WORLD game, and when the noise made by a crowd has to be enhanced by a music instrument which then a) hurts peoples ears & b) prevents players communicating then action needs to be taken.

I really hope the African's that are bringing these are not at the NZ games, and if they are they're supporting the opposition and are as far away as us because I honestly do not what to spend the amount of money i'm spending to head to the W/Cup and have my ears raped.

Rant over.

Giant Vuvuzela, set up as an advertising gimmick.

A funnel, joint to a truck horn. That goes off when you text a number...

WORST IDEA EVER!

ok the opening ceremony hasnt even started yet and I'd quite happily shove these annoying buzzy fly things where the sun don't shine. weeks of this is going to be majorly irritating. someone shd phone in a bomb threat saying its shaped like a vuvuzela so they all get confiscated

Fark me, its only the opening ceremony and already these things are pissing me off!!!

I can put up with them to a point, but if they drown out the national anthems i am gonna be well pissed. I fear they will though.

Three for me, and two for them.

In the absentees defence, its a pretty average ceremony. Would you show up for 101 hakas should we ever host a similar event? I wouldnt.

Time for some toast and a cuppa milo

I think it is selfish of the South Africans to blow on those stupid horns and ruin our viewing experience. Don't they know we've waited 28 years for this? How stereotypically arrogant!

I think it has stopped??   I can't hear them anyway, maybe I've blocked them out.

Im sure they will respectful and be silent for national anthems.

Some thoughts....

1. Vevuzelas - ok I see why you guys were pissed. They almost drowned out the opening ceremony music - which I think people are interested in hearing?

2. There were only about 5 cars in the car park? And I'm watching online so can't tell but are there really sh*tloads of empty (orange) seats??? Wouldn't FIFA have given these away free rather than embarass themselves like this?? What are opening ceremonies like usually in terms of capacity?

3. Where are the white singers? We want all WHITES

I'm guessing that with only a maybe a 60-70% full stadium and the locals being respectful to the singers and pulling the buzzing back a bit its going to be ten times more irritating during games. It wdn't surprise me to see some rowdy happy drunk supporters who've traveled all around the world for this get angry and brain someone over the next few days

I just saw a couple of hot white girls dancing. I'm glad I kept watching.

Great bit of commentary there! R Kelly comes on to perform. The vuvuzelas get louder.
"R Kelly has many fans here, given the reception."
I think they are trying to drown him out!

If the ad on the tele is anything to go by, expect a three hour long haka. Followed by Dave Dobbyn's Loyal. Then, if we are lucky, Poi E.

He should have done that long one, you know, the one which is like a movie or something. I like that one. Is it even R Kelly?

It sounds like a dog took a sh*t in the stadium and every fly in Africa has flowin in for a feed.  Hope they ban this abroation for the rest of the WC, its a truely horrible sound here at the pub. disco_mart2010-06-12 02:28:28

I doubt they will ban it so you will just have to deal with it.

Three for me, and two for them.
