The troubles can be the violences using them as a weapon but the foremost is that if an important annoucement over the speaker done like a life and death situation would anyone be able to hear it. If the players and coaches and managers is unable to talk to each other, how is anyone able to hear the speakers?

the cameroon boys had them yesterday and they were pretty shocking.

This could be the best news all year! I thought it was great South Africa got hosting rights, but those plastic tubes (apparently part of their culture!?) will make this the sh*test world cup ever, redeemed only by the fact we are there!

I did think it was funny they had them at the Super 14 final. Just one more reason why not to watch!

Those things are horrible, and they just go for the whole match... Listening to hundreds of blaring trumpets continously in a mono-tone for 90 minutes shouldn't just be banned at the World Cup, it should banned from... The world.

Advocating for the Big Bad Man, but I don't think they should.  They are a right pain, they sound awful, and they strike me as something you should grow out of when you turn four.  but they are a part of South African footballing tradition, and you shouldn't blow that away, so to speak, for the TV networks.

The thing is it's hard to make really painfully loud noise at irritating frequencies by chanting. Chanting is much more social, and requires much more organisation and commitment than mindlessly blasting on loud high pitched trumpets...That goes for thunder sticks too...
