Not in match day squad as AmaZulu draw 0-0 at home with Congo's TP Mazembe in CAF Champions League.

De Jong doesn’t seem to make squads for CAF CL games so maybe not registered or something.

But overall he’s not playing at all, surely a loan deal somewhere to like a lower level PSL team would make some sense.

Not in match day squad as AmaZulu win 1-0 at Myer Bevan’s old team TS Galaxy.

Wonder in a way what De Jong is still doing in South Africa. Been what injury free for around 12 months, but barely played. Surely a loan deal to another PSL club, or go for mutual termination with a year to go on his AmaZulu contract.

Some 2nd tier Dutch clubs would look at him, wouldn’t they??

AmaZulu with a 1-1 draw against Mazembe in the CAF Champions League.
No lineups yet out of the Congo.

Would have been an interesting trip for De Jong if he was on the plane! I bet Jeremy Brockie would have some cracking yarns, playing in various exotic African destinations in the same comp.

Update - De Jong flew to the exotic Lubumbashi (Congo's 3rd largest city, near border with Zambia). He was an unused sub.

Was actually 2nd leg of a 2 legged knock out tie (agg 1-1). Presume AmaZulu through to the CAF Champions League Group Stage on it's away goal.

I guess being in the Champions League means a squad type player like De Jong still has some value, with potential injuries over the season, long travel distances in Africa, and need to rest some players if is tight turnaround with various matches.

Starting as AmaZulu (10th) host Marumo Gallants (last) in the PSL. Gallants promoted to PSL this season.

De Jong's first start in the PSL since June this year, and only his 2nd since Benni McCarthy became the coach.

Credited with assist in 1-1 draw at Kaizer Chiefs. Only subbed on 3 mins earlier at 74 mins, with AmaZulu a goal down

Seems to be making an impact recently on back of scoring against Algeria A with AWs. Nice to see

From Flying Kiwis. Highlights of his 2 recent assists. First against Kaizer Chiefs a  very nice ball.

This all on the back of scoring for AWs against Algeria 'A'. All good stuff at long last for him. He's a smiley dude De Jong.

I see Stuart Baxter still coaching in Sth Africa, even after his terrible rape joke earlier this year.

Back to back games against Chippa United (13th). This one at home for AmaZulu (8th), and this time de Jong starts. Playing as a lone striker.

But he gets subbed off at 60 mins, with AmaZulu 0-2 down. Finishes a 2-2 draw. A sub scoring both goals for AmaZulu, in their 7th consecutive draw.

Unused sub, as AmaZulu (up to 4th, 24 pts) grab a late 87th min goal, to win 1-0 at Marumo Gallants (11th).

Sub who scored both goals last game against Chippa United, unsurprisingly got a start.

Unbeaten Mamelodi Sundowns (40 pts) who AmaZulu host next, already running away with the title, being 15 pts of Kaizer Chiefs (25 pts) in 2nd.

On the bench as AmaZulu (6th) host, the unbeaten runaway league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who are already 17 points points clear of 2nd placed Royal AM.

Unused sub as AmaZulu (6th) end Mamelodi Sundowns (1st) unbeaten record with a 1-0.

One of the other subs came on and scored winner for AmaZulu. They go up to 3rd for the moment, still 16 points behind Sundowns.

2nd spot (where they finished last season) is in the CAF Champions League, so they will be targeting that likely.

A few days are beating top of the table Sundowns (1st & clear by 14 points), AmaZulu (5th) travel to Orlando Pirates (4th). de Jong on the bench.

Pirates likely a rival for 2nd spot, and 2nd CAF Champions League spot. Actually the 7 teams, placed 2nd-8th are all only separated by 4 points. But AmaZulu (19 games) have played up to 3 more games than some of these other teams, so they need to keep on winning.

Subbed on at 73 mins as AmaZulu (5th) lose 2-1 at Orlando Pirates (2nd). Same score when he came on.

AmaZulu are through to Group Stage of 2021/22 CAF Champions League. Draw is next week, 28th Dec. 16 teams to go into 4 pools of 4 teams. Group games to start mid Feb 2022.

Pot 1
Al Ahly
Espérance de Tunis
Wydad Casablanca
Raja Casablanca

Pot 2
Zamalek
Mamelodi Sundowns
Horoya
Étoile du Sahel

Pot 3
Al Hilal
CR Belouizdad
Petro de Luanda
ES Sétif

Pot 4
Al Merrikh
Sagrada Esperança
Jwaneng Galaxy
AmaZulu

So de Jong should find himself jetting off to some exotic African destinations (Covid permitting) in 2022, aka Brockie a few years back.

Not in match day squad as AmaZulu host Horoya from Guinea in CAF Champions League tie.

Unless he's injured, appears to have fallen out of favour again at AmaZulu. Not in a match day squad since 23rd December.

Edit - 1-0 win for AmaZulu to go onto same 3 points as Algerian side ES Sétif (0-1 lossers to Casablanca) in the group. Casablanca 6 pts & Horoya 0 pts.

Not in match day squad as AmaZulu host ES Sétif from Algeria in CAF Champions League.

Edit - a 1-0 win for AmaZulu. They go 2nd in Group B, behind Raja Casablanca, after 3 rounds. But will have tough long away trips to Algeria & Guinea amongst last 3 games (all in March).

Suspect De Jong is injured. He was getting good game time, until recently.

Subbed on at half time to make his Champions’ League debut against Setif in Algeria. Becomes only the second NZer to play CAF Champions’ League, after Jeremy Brockie with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Unfortunately they lost 2-0, so sit third on 6 points from 4 games in their group, equal on points with Setif, but behind on the head-to-head as they only won the return fixture 1-0.

Game being in Algiers means his trip to Qatar will be a lot shorter than from Durban, so a bit fortunate in that respect.

AmaZulu (3rd in the pool, 6 pts) hosting Raja Casablanca (1st, 9 pts) in CAF Champions League, group stage.

Edit - AmaZulu (3rd, 6 pts) lose 0-2. Raja Casablanca through to quarter finals.
Algeria's ES Sétif (2nd, 9 pts) with a 93rd winner to prevail over bottom team Horoya (from Guinea), by 3-2.

AmaZulu will have to win away at Horoya, in the final round of pool games, and hope ES Sétif lose in Morocco (Raja Casablanca) to progress.
