The Club, the administration, coach Steve Barker and the players have all been very welcoming and made me feel right at home already. It’s a beautiful part of the country and I am really looking forward to pulling on the Stellenbosch shirt.”
Tragically, the club has since been rocked by the awful news that 19 year old local prospect Oshwin Andries was killed in a stabbing. Andries was the club’s youngest ever goal scorer and recently captained the South Africa U20s. He’d played ninety minutes in defence for Stellenbosch in the previous match and the stabbing incident allegedly happened later that evening. He’d been treated for his wounds, even attended training over the next couple of days (although obviously didn’t take part), yet appears to have then died of complications. Players didn’t find out until after the Chippa game.
