What do you mean Marto?

He seemed to get regular minutes- do you think they’ll loan him?

I think he needs a season as a starter. That won't happen in the Championship.

I have a feeling the club will bring in a few strikers over summer with Whittaker moving on. I can see a season loan somewhere in League One (just like Woodsy had at Brighton which really kick starting his career).

Rooney as possible new manager? Tough times ahead for Plymouth if true. But could Waine benefit from a striker as a coach?

He will benefit from a coach that plays a front two. Admittedly I don't see any of his games but sounds like a lot of the time he is being played as a lone striker. He was always part of a front two here.

Worst manager ever.

Us greens fans are properly pissed off with this. He's done nothing since retiring. Would much rather have a Chiefy or Talay type in charge who can actually man manage and have a track record of doing well.

Coochie? Surely too busy…

Wusty was the one who brought it to our attention. Don’t think it can be Marto- he’s a bigger fan of Waine than Wayno as a manager.

So Anthony Hudson? Bring in Poirot.

Anyone see who made the edit?

Plot thickens- there’s been no edit since April. And Rooney wasn’t in the picture then. It’s a professional job. Need some of the IT smarties to find the IT smarmies!

I'm gonna wager it's an old school chum, with a sense of fun. Some of the Personal Life stuff is pretty detailed, of the sort not many would know.

The platitudes are a bit strong, even for Huddo's liking, to be the work of the pointy shoed one.

Personal life[edit]
Waine attended school at
Hutt International Boys' School in Upper Hutt where he was the Junior school captain in 2019.[4]

Waine is a
dual citizen of New Zealand and the United Kingdom, as his parents are both from England.[18]

Well was thinking about means, opportunity and motive and Hudson knows how to edit a Wikipedia page…

The style sounds probably British, but that’s a lot of hate to inspire such actions. Kiwis are smart arses though…

What do you think Clouseau?

I mean, the articles that are cited in these two sentences are the source of the information provided. The intro edits were made two days ago and is just an Argyle fan having a laugh. funny that it hasn't been reversed yet by anyone!

Shows I have zero idea of how Wiki works.

Waineo could be in for some not so gentle ribbing when the AWS get together! I'm sure someone in the squad will find out about this.

As pointed out, Rooney will get us relegated but maybe, just maybe Ben could learn a thing or two from him. Rooney's signing is like Yorke's and Fowler's was in the A League, based on past glories, not current ability.

Both Chiefy and Talay had no record of doing well before being appointed?
Rooney did fairly well at Derby when they were in a lot of trouble, not sure what the expectation at DC United were, he wasn't good there but they did finish bad the next season too. Birmingham was a big failure which makes it a risky appointment but maybe he'll have a spell more like what he did at Derby than Birmingham. At least he should give Waineo some good advice.

Ben Waine interviewed by Piney ahead of the OFC final, worth a listen, can be found on the podcast feed for the show.

He's already sounding quite English which I find a little disappointing. Love it when you still hear a strong NZ accent from Kiwis overseas, Nelsen and Reid never lost theirs, while a lot of people at this point might be unaware Chris Wood was a Kiwi if they heard him speak.

For sure it can happen naturally. I'd sure most people who speak a long time away from NZ, have their Kiwi accent soften for sure.

Don't forget Waine has English parents as well. So grew up in a household of Blighty voices.

Can happen in reverse. Years ago a mate from Uni, went to the UK, met a local lass (later married her) and took her back to the Hawkes Bay for a summer. From memory she worked in a freezing works or something whilst in the Bay. When they returned to Kent, apparently her parents insisted she have Elocution lessons as they weren't happy with the way she now spoke!! Eating her vowels and all that. Whenever he visited our London flat, he got a very hard time about it all.

Slightly off topic, Waine is still eligible for the Olywhites right? If he is, I'm guessing since he already went to Japan, there won't be room for him in the squad this time with Ott, Bidois, Van Hattum, or maybe Donkers getting a chance? I have no idea what's going on with Colloty.

Go read the U23s Olywhites thread. Waine will be in France. As will OVH.
Bidois an outside chance.

The other 3 no chance.

People who take on the accent of people they are speaking with are inheritantly empathetic. The taking of ones accent, is a subconscious effort to become more understandable to their counterpart... need more like that in politics!

Of course, he could just have been taking the piss!

His American accent was passable but OMG, when he used to speak pigeon English with the Chinese & Japanese, it really was cringe worthy.

Ben Waine will be fine unless Rooney wrecks his career.

This video is from when he left the Nix. If you're listening for it you can just about hear the ghost of an English accent, but 18 months later he sounds far more English than this.

Waine unsurprisingly doesn't make it into the squad against Wednesday, after barely a pre-season. Hopefully will get a run out and chance to impress Rooney in the cup later this week against League Two side Cheltenham

Hardie who's 12 goals last season helped keep the Pigrims up, came off the pine. Plymouth have signed some new attackers who started.

Ibrahim Cissoko a Netherlands U21 international, who's now changed to Guinea? He's come from Toulose (1 goal in 11 games).

Nigerian Muhamed Tijani who has come from Slava Prague (2 goals in 24 games last season). Prior to that lower teams in the Czech league. So not an exciting, even strange signing at face value.

These 2 started alongside Bundu (Sierra Leone) who was at the club last season, giving the front 3 a bit of an African feel I imagine. Tijani and Bundu off at 57 mins and Cissoko off at 67 mins - against Wednesday

I see in another post Rooney is the favourite across the EFL leagues to be the 1st coach sacked. Could be an interesting little time at Plymouth, with some unpredictable selections!

Hopefully Waineo gets some mins against Cheltenham Town from L2 in the League Cup midweek.

Reading back through this thread is hilarious. The football’s not so much fun sadly. I think Rooney might almost be too serious and too earnest.

I remember a lot of the island boys who played in Japan initially struggled because training to them was throwing the ball around trying to do more and more amazing things to make their friends tackle thin air, whereas here there was a lot of drilling and drilling. I almost wonder if Rooney falls into the category of too earnest, too worried about his responsibilities to everyone and he needs a bit more of the ‘lads, it’s Spurs!’ Or some such carefree feeling with ball at feet.

On the other hand I heard he was the one who cut through the club cliques in the England dressing room so maybe I’m reading too much into things.

Marto’s call for Waine to go out on loan and start is looking better and better with the players ahead. However, a big part of it is luck and timing. And it’s a big long tough season. If he’s there who knows.

So to summarise I’ve said nothing and advocated nothing I haven’t massively hedged on. Sign me up Sky!
