Wrexham have become a bit of disliked team now. Utter pants before Hollywood money arrived and now everyone is band-wagoning them ala Chelsea and Man City. Gutted that Mansfield lost to them yesterday.

They weren't utter pants.  Were a competitive team,  that just couldn’t do enough to get out of non league football.

While I lived in Wales a decade back I went to a few of their games as a friend of mine hails from there. There were pants. Their drop out of the football league really rocked the club.

Waine on at 62 mins (0-1) in a 0-1 loss. Mansfield lost some form and now down to 10th.

Waine off the pine at 82 mins (0-0) in a 1-0 loss. In form Wycombe (7 consecutive wins) with the 95th min goal. Mansfield have now lost their last three L1 games (all 1-0).

Their main striker Lee Gregory has missed their last 2 games, but Clough still hasn't started with Waine.

https://www.mansfieldtown.net/news/2024/november/26/report--wycombe-1-0-stags/

At the other end, Hewitt and substitute forward Ben Waine played a neat one-two on the edge of the area with six minutes left which resulted in the ball landing in the path of the New Zealand international inside the box.

Waine looked to test The Chairboys from a tight angle to the left but fired wide of the target at the near post.

And Waine also named as a starter! Chance to get some good minutes and hopefully record some stats for himself.

Waine on at 83 mins with Bolton up 2-1.
Finishes 3-1.

Mansfield were actually up 1-0 until 70 mins, when they had a player sent off.

Their early season great form has fallen away.

It seems Waine isnt flavour of the month at Mansfield, or at his real club Plymouth who are struggling for points and struggling with injuries and havent reclaimed him (if they are able to)

Waineo an unused sub in a 0-0 draw at Charlton.
Mansfield's main striker Lee Gregory is out injured. So unless Ben himself has a niggle, bit of a concern getting no mins with Gregory out.

If Wayno wanted minutes then a Xmas loan back to the Nix would be beneficial to all parties. He would be a 100% starter currently for us. Doesnt look like he is in anyones plans in England

Waine on the bench. Baccus starts. Still no Lee Gregory.
Mansfield up 1-0 at 70 mins.

Edit - Waine off the pine at 88 mins in a valuable 1-0 win.

I still think he should've stayed here for one more year to get that consistency into his game. But he didn't and he is not developing as he should have. I like the guy but it saddens me watching such a raw talent not achieving what he should be. He should've been playing in the championship as a regular starter this season.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Or maybe he's just not as good as Nix fans would like to believe (or hope). Mostly on the pine under Talay in his last half season with the Phoenix.

Lots of opportunities at Plymouth and now Mansfield, without as yet making a strong impression. Same with the All Whites.

He's a home grown Nix product, and very humble/likeable, so we can be a bit blinkered as to how good he is, or should be. He may still 'crack it' at L1 or Championship level, but he's be 24 next June. As others have said he's got an ex striker and decent coach at Mansfield in Nigel Clough.

Waineo can also look towards his 36 yr striker team mate Lee Gregory as an example of never giving up. Gregory was bouncing around the National League (5th tier) and even lower until getting a chance with Millwall at age 25-26. Since then he's fashioned a very decent career between The Championship and League One.

Edit - Gregory has 7 L1 goals this season, in 923 mins for Mansfield
Waine 1 L1 goal in 304 mins.

Think he’s good. It’s just hard to break into a league. Uffie was a prick to him a fair bit. But then again he wanted a striker who was starting level in the Eredivisie or PL right? Uffie treated us to two excellent strikers and Uli.

And as Woodsy said a lot of it is about your team.

Waine scores ten goals a season at least if he comes back. He’s probably missing a few tricks Kosta’s got, but he’s got all the finishes Kosta has, and a similar passing range.

No Waine in match day squad. Mansfield up 2-0 very early on against The Posh.

Edit - finishes a 3-0 win on the road for Mansfield. Baccus 2 assists.

Next a potential Kiwi L1 derby, as Reading host the Stags.

Mental and predictable. Is that the 3rd, 4th or 5th manager Argyle have had since Waine arrived? Des come on down???

Also could we get Bacchus in January? That pile of assists sound scrumptious.

Inside word is we are going back to the future. Bringing our last successful manager back (Schuey).

A draw todayfor Argyle.

Will be interesting to see if Ben is called back or stays on lone given he's hardly playing at the moment (came off the bench today with 7 mins to go in a 2-1 win).

He had played for Argyle at the start of the season so is he stuck with them or Mansfield?

I swear I saw a tweet reporting that the loan was going to be cut short, don't know if that means he'd have to stay at Plymouth or whether he could get any sort of other move.

There used to be a FIFA rule saying that you can be registered at 3 clubs during a season but can only play competitive games for 2 clubs.

So if that is still in place & Waine was recalled from loan, he can't be sent out anywhere else.

I'm really surprised Argyle hasn't recalled him. He's not playing at Mansfield and Argyle are chucking out kids as half of the team are injured.
