Also sounds like David Ball has given him plenty of advice on what to expect as a striker in League One, and the confidence he can make it at that level.

So hopefully he's as prepared as much as he can be, before getting on the grass.

Plymouth (1st) host MK Dons (22nd) tonight.

Edit - Waine is not eligible to play, until the game against Bolton on 3rd January.

From Flying Kiwis.

Steven Shumacher again: “Bolton will be a possibility. That gives him seven days to get over his jet-lag, and get up to speed with the training. Obviously he has been on a long flight and a long journey and we don't want to put his body through too much too soon. With the squad being the way it is, and how everyone is playing well, there is no real pressure to throw him straight in. He's going to take his time and get up to speed. He's going to add to what we have got in the squad. He's not here to replace anyone, he's just making us stronger.”

Up Next: That Bolton game is away on Sunday at 4am, there’s also an EFL Trophy quarter-final away to Bristol Rovers at 8.45am on the following Wednesday which could be another window for Waine-o (NZT)

Plymouth Argyle have had their joint-top scoring forward recalled from loan by parent club Swansea City. Presumably they knew about this and it formed a big part of signing Waine. A bit more pressure but could mean more opportunities.

Must make Waine a chance of being on the bench for trip to Bolton (5th) this weekend.

You'd also think he'd get a start in the EFL Trophy quarter against Bristol Rovers, next week. Plymouth won't be taking that comp too seriously, it's all about promotion to The Championship.

https://theniche-cache.com/football/2023/1/4/getting-amongst-the-tale-of-ben-waines-transfer-to-plymouth-argyle

It will be curious to see where he fits in for a Plymouth team that tends to prefer a 3-4-2-1 formation with a nine and two tens. They’re flexible enough to use those tens as wingers and have on occasion gone with two central forwards. The latter is ideal for Waine who has been doing his thing mostly in two-striker formations with the Welly Nix, though it could take some time to adjust to playing as a lone nine. Here’s another testimony from his new manager...

Steven Schumacher: “He can play on the shoulder, similar to Ryan Hardie, he's good with his back to play and linking up, probably similar to Niall Ennis, and he has got really good movement in the box, which is similar to Jephs (Luke Jephcott). What he hasn't got is Sam Cosgrove's 6ft 4 heading ability, but he competes. If he competes and puts himself about he has got a chance of getting on the end of crosses.”

Doesn't look like Bein have much by way of League 1 coverage despite having the competition on the website, so a sky subscription won't help you much.

Might have to be a sub to Argyle TV

"£170 per season"

I'll pass. If they had options to just buy individual matches I'd likely watch a few if I happened to be awake and available at the time. I'm not going to pay that much though...

Edit: Nevermind I just saw you can buy an indiviual match pass for £10 (about $17 NZD)... still kind of expensive but I might be tempted if I can see Waine is starting.

Hopefully Waine can talk to Iredale at Bolton, see what the situation is. Mid-game natter might be construed as unprofessional, mind you...

Exciting day for Waine? Sounds like he could go straight onto the bench, as Plymouth (1st) travel to Bolton (5th).

Hopefully he was allowed to watch the Nix win from his hotel room! KO was about 6am UK time.

Plymouth go 5 points clear in first, though 2nd placed Sheffield Wednesday have a game in hand. They were busy beating Wood's Newcastle in the FA Cup.

Jack Iredale unfortunately not in match day squad for Bolton. Presumbaly injured/suspended.

Seeing as it's a quarter final and Argyle are chasing their first piece of silverware since 2003-04, I think Schumacher will probably be starting with either Hardie or Cosgrove up front tomorrow.

I don't see Waine starting unless Argyle maybe went with a front 2 which they have done in some games this season. If he's on the bench though, I will of course be watching and waiting for him to hopefully come on.

What a great first season it would be for Waine if Argyle were able to both win the EFL trophy and get promoted back to the Championship. Last time Argyle were in the Championship, It was Fallon's second to last season with them.

Tbh even though he just arrived i could possibly see Waine getting a start if the manager decides to prioritise the league over the cup. It is potential silverware but so is the League One trophy and they are in a strong position to push for that, and they would probably be happier with that over the EFL trophy.

Bloody beautiful start to his career in England. Well done so far lad.

Absolutely loving all the New Zealanders jump on the Argyle page on twitter too. The interactions for posts about his goal or his chances are at least double for that of other players/posts. Just goes to show that even though he's 1000's of kilometres away, he has the stark raving mad support of everyone back home. You love to see it!
