That second goal is something. Dinked finish off his weak foot, after wrong footing the defense.
And I’m going to say he turned it around last season, but this was when everyone else began to realise!
Newcastle tonight with Arsenal, Man City, Ipswich, United, Villa, Everton, Spurs and Brentford by the end of April. Business as usual in the Premier League, but still a mighty task ahead of Forest to prove they belong in their current league position.

4-1 so far. Wood yet to touch the ball. Hudson-Odoi scored first, but Forest folding like a deck chair. 35 minutes done and Newcastle seem to be just warming up.
Edit: No change at half. Wood a bit frustrated, but Forest showing enough that you wouldn’t count them out, particularly if they score the next goal.
Finishes 4-3 with Wood kept largely quiet by Burn. But Forest chased it home all the way. What a game from both teams. But 3 points Newcastle the final result.
Then a Forest comeback in the 2nd half. Wood with the assist yes to make it 4-2 (63 mins) and from the highlights Forest dominated after that. 3rd at 90 mins, and even a late pen shout that would have had the Woodsman walking up, to make it 4-4. But Gillett unmoved.
Wood not quite got his head in the game so far. Had a couple of good deliveries to feet, but not been able to make much of it as of yet.
those balls in to him were great, if only he received them 10 yards closer to the goal.
He didn’t do anything wrong. Heavily marshaled, but compared to the rest of his season hasn’t done anything inspirational. You feel if Forest get points here it’s going to need a piece of individual genius from someone.
Brighton in the next round if they get through. Big opportunities for all of the remaining teams, with an inconsistent Man City the only current 'big' club left in the competition. Aside from them, four clubs left have never won it, with the successes of Villa (1957), Ipswich (1978), Forest (1959) and Preston (1938) all coming decades ago. You suspect all 8 other than city might not get a better chance for a while.

Goes to penalties and Forest win 5-4, Wood of course converts his penalty.
Just love how exceptional Wood is with penalties, genuinely don’t think he will miss another one for the rest of his career, hope I haven’t jinxed him now (nervous laugh).
Apart from City, Forest are now the most recent winners of the FA cup still left in this season’s competition. Wouldn’t bet against Bournemouth beating City in the next round either.

Brighton away will be tough, but yes Forest have a real chance of repeating 1959. Don't think they will leave the likes of Wood, Gibbs-White, Anderson, Williams on the bench for that one.
Perhaps Nuno always felt the Ipswich game would go for 120 mins, so not starting some of his big guns.

Wood is amazing with his pens. He must be better than 10/10 or so over the last five years for both club/country (including a high pressure one vs Japan in the 2021 Olympics shootout that we eventually lost). I also don't want to jinx him, but I can't remember the last time he missed...

To add to my last comment.. wow he hasn't missed a pen since 2016 according to transfer market website! (And I don't think that even includes his shootout ones where I'm sure he hasn't missed one).
No dramas there. The world’s greatest penalty taker strikes again.
Same as they did against Exeter City in the previous round, Nottingham Forest went to a penalty shootout where Chris Wood went first and scored with an assured take. In fact, they used the same five takers in the same order as they did in the Exeter game and everyone else scored too. As did all the Ipswich shooters... until Jack Taylor was denied by a Mats Sels save with Ipswich’s fifth and final penalty. Nottingham Forest progress after a 5-4 triumph via spotties. They’re into the FA Cup quarter-finals where they’ll be away to Brighton & Hove Albion - a club that Chris Wood scored a hat-trick against a few weeks ago.
Forest did make the quarters a couple of seasons ago so this isn’t completely rare air but the last time they went further was a runner’s up effort in 1991... the year that Chris Wood was born. Forest’s two FA Cup titles came in 1959 and 1898.
By the way, don’t be too concerned here but Chris Wood has now gone 276 minutes without scoring a goal. That might be normal for most strikers but it’s not normal the way that The Woodsman has been going lately. Perhaps he’s saving them all up for the crunch game against Manchester City next week.
On the other hand, his penalty streak is up to 32 in a row across regulars and shootouts. Still hasn’t missed since April 2016. This was the ninth time that he’s gone first in a shootout and he’s scored them all, with his team winning seven of those shootouts. Happily, he’s getting plenty of opportunities to extend the streak this season – this was his fifth penalty of the campaign (including shootouts, obviously).

Approaching HT, and still 0-0. Wood upfront for Forest.
A long ball from Sels goes all the way over the Manchester City defence, and Wood is bearing down on goal. He spots Ederson off his line and looks to lift it over him, but he doesn't get enough on it and the goalkeeper can collect.
Think that tame effort from Wood was the first on target by either team. Both Pep and Nuno getting a case of the Chief’s! And City not getting a few calls.
It’s not been a great watch so far. Maybe too hot in the UK for football?

Hudson-Odoi , not for the first time, scores in the big games. Running into the box on the right uses Wood’s peeled away run as a distraction, goes past his man towards the byline and smashes it home near post.
1-0 Forest.
Odoi gets the ball to Wood in the box in a very handy position a half a minute later and he can’t find space to hit the target.

A bit like in some big games at the end of last season the Woodsman is a bit off his high standards, but Hudson-Odoi takes the glory and Forest take 3 important points.
4 points clear of City and 5 points clear of Chelsea who have a game in hand. Not great margins, but a much needed win, and now they can think about next week with a little less pressure.
Either a case of Elanga and Wood being well shackled or a case of Hudson-Odoi being in top form or a bit of both. Not much supply for Wood, but also Callum was at it today.
Pep Guardiola: “I think the numbers speak for themselves and with strikers the first you see is always is how many goals, and that fact is there. But it’s not just that. They link with him many times and from there create something. He’s a very strong striker and when they live close to the box, good finishing is so dangerous.
He did really well at Burnley. The impact in the beginning at Newcastle was good. He’s a pure, pure striker. The movement at the far post, the long balls from the keeper and central defenders. Always effective. No doubts about that.”
Think their run home isn’t bad. These guys are a preety good chance of European Championship next year!!
Unlikely for all three kiwis to be in the squad next season but we can hope and dream!!
Jaysus jinx much.
Ipswich (also giant killers), United (nothing to lose with a good coach), Villa known and quality, Everton (on a good run), Tottenham (inconsistent af, but packed with talent), Brentford who are full of goals, Palace with Mateta and friends, Leceister, West Ham who have caused some surprises with their new manager and Chelsea who are packed with talent.
No easy games in the PL. Having already lost to Newcastle, Fulham and Bournemouth recently none of these games should be taken for granted. Forest are tired. Wood hasn’t scored for a few games. They are not playing as consistently as they were and their tactics have been studied. Certainly how Burn and Gabriel were with Wood could be a template!
If they make it, they will absolutely have earned it. Their most dangerous games have been against aspirational mid table teams, which is basically the whole PL.
Recent record lost 3 won 2. That form would see them drop out of European places, with so many teams chasing.
I’m still hoping Wood can get to 30 goals! If he does that’d go a long way towards it, but it’d need some brilliant form. More than a goal a game from here.
Forest playing pretty triangles on the left with both wingers on one side, but I think need Gibbs-White further forward and some bloody urgency to get it into the box and have some threat on goal. Wood has hardly seen the ball so far, which has been similar to previous games of late.

And they get one. Milenkovic a beauty from close range after a corner. Wood had a half or less chance with an early cross from the right from Gibbs-White a moment a ago. And a second from Elanga. Gorgeous left footed strike curled past the keeper. Hope Woodsy can get in on this!

3-0 Elanga. Ipswich imploding.
Edit: halftime. Lots of pressing and watching Elanga run from the left to right wing and back for Woodsy. Not given a lot else to do at this stage, by fate or his creative teammates. Dominguez and Milenkovic perhaps doing more familiar Wood things in the box. Plus: second half Wood hits a good chance on his left at the keeper. And a Gibbs-White Elanga combo is close. Commentators suggesting between the two chances Forest should be 4-0.
And Wood is subbed, after a good day for his team, but a personally frustrating one for him. More frustrating still knowing he’s given 10 minutes to Awoniyi to make his case.
