Chucked $8 on Millwall this morning, thinking Wood would get me the win. Was very grumpy when they tweeted that penalty.

Interesting comment from Gus Poyet (who's also keen to sign him) about how Chris has matured, and his potential. Great stuff for Chris and NZ football.

 ^^  Specifically

"They looked to be heading for defeat as on-loan striker Wood demonstrated why both Seagulls boss Gus Poyet and Lions manager Kenny Jackett are keen to sign him permanently from West Brom in January".

Brighton manager Gus Poyet: "He [Chris Wood] is the kind of player we would like to bring in,

"He's only 21 and I feel he will be a top, top player. When he was with us on loan he was a baby but now he is maturing. He's a man now.

"He's clinical and brave and we have played a part in helping him on his way."

That second strike on his weaker left peg, pretty impressive

some great comments about Wood under the Guardian match report

West Brom have received five £1 million offers for their New Zealand international Chris Wood, currently on loan at Millwall.
Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Cardiff City, Millwall and Crystal Palace are all keen on the 21 year old. Sheffield United are the only team to make an offer for Wood which is a loan deal with a view to a permanent deal if they win promotion. The rest of the offers are full time deals.

How awesome is it that all these clubs are fighting over our boy!

I think WBA do have an option to extend his contract for another season. That will be getting decent money for him, if they sell in Jan. He seems to be doing the business at Millwall, so might be a good place for him to go. If he could get them promoted, it would be fantastic.

Good times for NZ football - all we need now is a new Elliott and we'll be good to go.

The All Whites are going to have an interesting look to them in the coming years.

Not sure if Wood will ever make it in the premiership (not really well rounded enough)  but that doesn't make him a bad player.

Still only young and would say he is similar to Grant Holt (norwich) who would be classified as a slightly late developer but is scoring plenty in the PL.

From what I've seen - and obviously we can't see most of his games over here - he's a good goal scorer but doesn't offer much else. Bit like a Brockie in that regard. Those kinds of strikers seem to struggle to make it in the Premiership (even Carroll has a few more strings to his bow etc)

We've seen with the likes of Bent that teams are slowly moving away from 'specialist' players and are giving gametime to more well rounded ones.

this dude has a wildly different view ...

Harris, who scored 125 goals in 380 appearances for the Lions, has seen Wood in action for himself and believes the New Zealand international is a rare example of a complete striker.

"I've seen him three or four times this season and I think he's a super player," Harris said. "From what the boys say he's a good lad as well. He's in a team that suits him and he's scoring goals.

"He's had good combinations with Darius Henderson and Andy Keogh. He looks like a really good player for a young lad. He has all the attributes for the modern game too.

"He's big, he's strong, he's got pace and he scores all sorts of goals. Steve Morison was a good all-round forward at Championship level and Chris looks every bit the part.

"I've seen him play in various roles - dropping into the hole, picking up the ball and running with it; being a target man and flicking it on and running the channels."

According to the WBA forums, it looks like Chris may well be rejoining West Brom in January and join their first team due to lack of striker depth they have at this current time. If this is true, I think it would be a great move by West Brom as letting a 21 year old striker, who has scored 10 goals in 16 appearances in the Championship go for 1.5 million is mad! IMO I think it would be good for West Brom to give him a crack at the top level and would be great for New Zealand football.

West Brom might yet finish up with egg on their face if Chris is picked up by a Championship side that gets promoted and starts doing the business at the top level.

Regardless, he's going ahead in leaps and bounds as a striker and that's got to be great for NZ football, especially if we quality for the next World Cup.

Scored in a 2-1 loss against I can't remember who

Woods scored Millwall's only goal overnight in a 2-1 loss to Barnsley.

Went to the game, He was quality, had a couple of stray passes but for the most part the ball stuck to him like glue,, worked hard and was a nice finish for the goal. heard at least 3 chants about signing him up.

also nice listening to the guy behind me go on about how good Ifill was for them, reckoned was the best winger they've had.....big call but was still good to hear

Big call for Woody....what would you rather do. Stay with Millwall and get 90 minutes a week and keep smacking in goals or go back to WB and find you are still no 3 or 4 striker and sit around on the bench waiting for your chance? if you are young you need to regularly play...chris is now with a team that play in a style that works for his game.....go to Millwall Chris. You have loads to time for the EPL

Last game west brom started with odemwingie and lukaku with both long and fortune on the bench, although possible lukaku will go back to Chelsea in new year I think

Lukaku wants to stay another season at WBA meaning Chris would (no pun intended) already be 2nd behind him, let alone the other strikers they would have next season

It's not really up to Wood; it's up to his club.

According to this source, WBA has agreed fee (somewhere above 1.5m pounds) with both millwall and leceister, so if true it will come down to personal terms and wood preference.

A choice between Millwall & Leicester? For chrissake who'd take Leicester over London? New Cross/Deptford is not Chelsea/Fulham/Soho/Camden admittedly... but still within easy reach. And Sainsbury's New X has plentiful supplies of NZ lamb & Gala apples not to mention the occasional ostrich steak. Plus he'd be a hero in the 5 Bells.

He's having a medical at Leicester tomorrow. Looks like that will be where he is heading.

And, after Leicester win promotion with Chris in hot form, he can knock in a couple again WBA in their first meeting next season to make Albion realise what they've lost.

Works for me! :)

They were very low priority for Wellnik when he rebuilt the new forums, and must have been pushed to the bottom of the pile.
